INSTALLING THE OS/2 (2.1) FOR THE BLACK WIDOW VLB

If the OS/2 is installed and the Black Widow VLB is running with a VGA
already, skip Part I, go directly to PART II to update your drivers

If you have a second VGA card that is currently running OS/2, then skip PART
I, and go directly to PART II to install the Black Widow drivers with your old
VGA card. After you complete the installation, shut the computer down and
replace the old VGA card with the Black Widow, and reboot the system. Now
you are running OS/2 with the Black Widow.

PART I Installing the OS/2 2.1 for the first time

If you are installing the OS/2 2.1 for the first time to your system
with the Black Widow VLB graphics card, please follow these steps carefully
so that the OS/2 can be installed with less time and effort.

 1. Place the OS/2 Installation Diskette into drive A: and boot the
    system from this Installation Diskette.

 2. The OS/2 Installation starts. Insert the OS/2 Diskette 1 into drive A
when you are ask to do so.

 3. The installation continues and you should follow the instructions on
the screen for the hard disk preparation (also refer to OS/2
Installation Guide, if necessary). This will take few minutes, then
you will see the following messages on the screen:

    Ŀ

The hard disk preparation is complete, the next step
       will be OS/2 system configuration.

Remove the diskette from the diskette drive.

Press the Enter key to start OS/2 system configuration.

At this point, do NOT press the Enter key. First, remove the OS/2
Diskette 1 and insert a DOS Boot-up Diskette and press the Enter key,
so the system can boot from the diskette, not the hard drive. This
step is very important because we need to install some BW drivers
for OS/2 before it gets started.

If your hard drive is formatted with the HPFS file system, you must
boot to OS/2 from a diskette (This may be done by booting the OS/2
Installation Diskette, then proceeding to OS/2 Diskette 1, then pressing
    ESC at the first menu.)

 4. Once you have booted from a diskette, you will see the DOS prompt A>.
Insert the Black Widow Display Driver Diskette into the diskette
drive A or drive B and type:

    AGX_INS

This program will ask you which drive the OS/2 is installed on and
copy some BW drivers to the OS/2 directories.

 5. When the AGX_INS is finished, remove the diskette from drive A
and reboot the system from the hard disk. The OS/2 installation should
continue and the current system configuration is displayed on the screen.

 6. If OS/2 shows the Primary Display as "Extended Graphics Array", then
change this to "VGA", since the Black Widow is not the Extended Graphics
    Array.

 7. Continue the rest of OS/2 configuration until the following message
    appears:

     Ŀ

OS/2 Setup and Installation is complete
Press Enter to restart you system.

Again, insert a DOS Boot-up Diskette before pressing the Enter key,
so the system can boot from a diskette, not hard drive.

 8. Once you have booted from a diskette, you will see the DOS prompt A>.
Insert the Black Widow OS/2 Display Driver Diskette into the diskette
drive A or drive B and type:

    AGX_DLL

This program will ask you which drive is the OS/2 installed and copy
some BW drivers to the OS/2 directories.

 9. When the AGX_DLL is finished, remove the diskette from drive A,
and reboot the system from the hard disk. Now, the OS/2 is installed
with VGA as the Primary Display. You are now ready for part II,
the Black Widow Extended Display Drivers installation.

PART II: OS/2 2.1 EXTENTED Display Drivers installation

If you skip PART I of these instructions, please configure the OS/2
Primary Display as "VGA" before installing Black Widow OS/2 drivers,
(Refer to the OS/2 user's guide, if necessary)

Install the drivers from the hard drive

 1. Start the OS/2 and make sure all features of OS/2 are running OK.

 2. Run DOS or OS/2 Command Prompt
Make a directory in your hard drive, i.e C:\BW, and copy the file(s) into
that directory. Make sure that you decompressed all the files.

 3. Copy all of the DSC files into OS2\INSTALL by typing:

COPY *.DSC C:\OS2\INSTALL , if you install OS/2 in your C: drive

    or

COPY *.DSC D:\OS2\INSTALL , if you install OS/2 in your D: drive

 4. Now, run the OS/2 display driver installation program by typing:

    DSPINSTL

This program is in the \OS2\INSTALL subdirectory.

 5. When DSPINSTL starts, check "Primary Display" and click "OK" to change
    the display driver.

 6. Scroll down to "Black Widow...", Select the desired resolution,
    and press OK.

Click "Change", then direct OS/2 to the drivers, i.e. C:\BW where OS
drivers for the Black Widow is located, then click "INSTALL"

 7. When the DSPINSTL finished, click "OK".

 8. Shut down the OS/2 and reboot the system. The OS/2 now will run with
the Black Widow high resolution display driver you just installed.

Install the drivers for the floppy drive

 1. Make sure the Volume Label of Black Widow Display Driver diskette
is "AGX_OS2", and the drivers are decompressed. This is important
because most of our distributing drivers are in the compressed form.

 2. Start the OS/2 and make sure all features of OS/2 are running OK.

 3. Put the BW OS/2 Display Driver diskette into drive A. (or drive B)

 4. Open the OS/2 Window. Change the current drive to drive A (or drive B),
then at the OS/2 Command Prompt type:

    COPY *.DSC C:\OS2\INSTALL

    or

    COPY *.DSC D:\OS2\INSTALL

 5. Now, run the OS/2 display driver installation program by typing:

    DSPINSTL

This program is in the \OS2\INSTALL subdirectory.

 6. When DSPINSTL starts, check "Primary Display" and click "OK" to change
    the display driver.

 7. Scroll down to "Black Widow...", Select the desired resolution
    and press OK.

 8. Click "Install..." and the new drivers will be installed. If the BW
Display Driver Diskette is in drive B, click "Change" then click
    "Install"

 9. When the DSPINSTL finished, click "OK".

10. Shut down the OS/2 and reboot the system. The OS/2 now will run with
the Black Widow high resolution display driver you just installed.
