A short giude to CAOS V 0.15 for beta testers

Nota bene: this program is freeware. All I want you to do is
send me an email to let me know you use it. If you use it,
report bugs and wishes to me: bgrems@daheim.ping.at.

Installation:

UNZIP CAOS.ZIP in a directory of your choice
Create a subdirectory called SUBS in it.
Place the *.DLL's in C:\os2\dlls

Caveats:

All extra DLL's are provided, with the exception of VROBJ.DLL.
If you do not have it, get it from hobbes.

How to work with CAOS:

Start it. At the first program start, a window will appear where
you should fill in all information asked for.

From the main windows, under "settings", you will find the entry
"IAAC preferences". Click here and fill in all information.

Name, Skill, observing sites (up to 3), instruments
(up to 5). Those will be default settings for the entry form.

NEW!!!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
You can specify a path where to put submission files.
Do NOT do so if your internet mailer doesn't supply automated
mailing from a directory. YOU NEED TO ENTER THE LAST BACKSLASH
IN YOUR PATH STATEMENT!!!!!!!!
When specifying a path, CAOS now does the following:

it creates a file with the submission.
First to lines are:

To: Netastrocatalog@latrade.com
Subject: (Object and instrument)

Your mailer must be capable of picking up that file and translate
the first two lines into a header for mailing.
My reader does that (CROSSPOINT V 3.11).

If your reader doesn't, DO NOT specify a path!!!!
If your reader needs another format, tell me and I will implement
it!
-------------------------------------------------------------

To compose an entry for the IAAC, choose "make submission"
in the IAAC menu. Your preferences will appear in the form,
you can choose the site and the instrument from a drop down
listbox - as well as other information.

Click on submit to submit the observation.

You will find a textfile in the directory /subs within the
CAOS directory. The files are numbered iaacsub.1, iaacsub.2 etc.

You can convert the IAAC??.TXT that is downloadable on the net
to a database file for further use in CAOS. Just use the menue
"Convert text to database" and load the textfile. A iaac.dat is
then created in the CAOS directory.

For more information see the HISTORY.TXT!

Enjoy - and tell me about the bugs and what you'd like
to see in CAOS, too.
