1. 1995: A STELLAR YEAR FOR IBM

With the release of the fourth quarter and full year 1995 earnings
to the press, IBM declared 1995 its highest revenue year ever. Last year
also brought the largest growth in revenue in more than a decade with
fourth-quarter revenues increaseing 10 percent over the same period
last year.

Lou Gerstner in a letter to IBM employees said,"Most significantly,
our results indicate that our fundamental strategies are working.
Our efforts to completely transform our traditional businesses
for the fast-emerging world of network-centric computing are
paying off, as are our efforts to rapidly expand our newer,
high-growth businesses."

2. OS/2 WARP APPLICATION GROWTH IN 1995

In 1995, over 400 new OS/2 Warp applications were developed and
marketed. This brings the total number of native OS/2 applications to
nearly 2500. Some of the programs that contributed to the steady
build up of OS/2 applications are as follows.

The OS/2 Vendor Council is a joint marketing effort with 30 OS/2
vendors that strives to establish an OS/2 application presence in
retail channels via advertising, promotions and store placements.

The 32-bit Alliance, a consortium of OS/2 32-bit vendors, was
initiated by the vendor community to take a proactive role in
     promoting the success of OS/2.

The Blue Orchard Distribution Channel is focused on distributing
OS/2 applications to catalogues and retail stores.

WarpWare is a channel merchandising plan that demonstrates to
consumers, distributors and retail stores that many OS/2 Warp
applications and solutions exist. This program lead to displays
in CompUSA stores, with other retail chains in the US and
     Europe interested for 1996.

The Business Application Sampler CD is an interactive CD-ROM
containing 32-bit native OS/2 applications from 35 vendors that
demonstrate to small businesses that OS/2 applications comprise
     viable solutions to business problems.

3. IBM SAFEGUARD SECURITY PRODUCTS FOR OS/2

IBM Germany offers three levels of security solutions to major businesses
in industries such as insurance and banking. So far they have been quite
successful with these offerings.

o IBM SafeGuard Easy for OS/2
This level features pre-boot authentication and online encryption.

o IBM SafeGuard Desktop for OS/2
This next level of security provides centralized administration,
personalized desktops and a single sign on feature on top of
  all the SafeGuard Easy functionality.

o IBM SafeGuard Professional for OS/2
For the highest levels of security, this product builds on all the
functionality of IBM SafeGuard Desktop for OS/2 and then adds
resource access control via synchronous exception signaling (SES),
as well as accountability and logging.

4. PC WEEK INTERVIEW WITH IBM SOFTWARE EXECUTIVE, STEVE MILLS

Steve Mills, General Manager of IBM's Software Solutions division,
answered questions on a variety of topics in an interview with PC Week.
Some of the topics covered were:
o Integrating IBM's web technology with Lotus Notes
o Concern over Microsoft's plans to enter the client/server workgroup
    market in 1996
o Bundling Lotus Notes with IBM hardware

When asked about IBM's plan for using Sun's Java, Mills responded,
"We will incorporate Java run-time into various Web clients in IBM.
We have a Web explorer and Web-enabled client-side technology including
viewers, search mechanisms, and image query technology.

PC Week staffers also asked him about his long-term vision of
LAN and workgroup computing.

Mills relied," It's the whole notion of the extended transaction
processing model. The applications cover a range of activities from
complex analytical work and a high degree of information sharing
and collaboration. We will better connect products and services to
gain maximum leverage. Collaboration application systems will be a
key part of that side of computing.

The other side is mission control, the transaction side, updating
stock information and updating inventory, the end result of
collaboration.

Bringing those two things together, collaboration to transaction
system, is part of our long-term vision: the melding of these two
computing models that have existed apart from each other. The whole
idea of work flow intersects this. We'll be getting products
tied together over the next 12 to 24 months.

6. UPDATE FROM THE OBJECT WORLD

Quickly taking advantage of Taligent becoming an IBM subsidiary,
IBM is planning to blend key parts of Taligent technology with existing
IBM C++ applications development tools. The blending of Taligent's
CommonPoint Application system with IBM development technologies should
allow developers to build complex, distributed applications more easily.

The CommonPoint system includes object frameworks that provide a diverse
set of reusable functions that developers can integrate into t
sophisticated applications. The CommonPoint frameworks
add a great deal of power to the existing development tools.

IBM is getting positive reviews from analysts on their plans.
Hugh Bishop, director of emerging technology research at Aberdeen Group,
Inc. indicated that CommonPoint clearly improves IBM's VisualAge and
Open Class offerings.

CommonPoint for OS/2 was released Dec. 15, joining the AIX version
released last July.
