Yes, it works fine from the keyboard, just a little awkward at
times. BTW, Partition Magic Pro v5 (due out shortly; just went
to manufacturing a week or so ago) supports scripted sessions.
You can build the script before you run the program (the Windows
program has a pointy-clicky script builder, but the syntax is
pretty straightforward if you want to build it manually), save
the script onto the DOS floppy, then shutdown and reboot with the
floppy and it makes all the scripted changes without user
intervention. Pretty slick...

Weird. I'm using a Logitech Trackman Marble+ (which does have a scroll
wheel), it it works just fine with Partition Magic & BootMagic.

And my drivers came with the mouse. I know for a *fact* that Logitech
include DOS drivers with their mice.

Well, you've got something odd going on in your system. It's not
PQMagic's fault.

Subj: 2 Adaptec SCSI's compatible?

I was thinking of adding an Agfa SnapScan 1236s (SCSI) scanner to a long-time
old 486dx2-50 (32meg), Warp 3 redspine (no fixpaks) system. The PC already
features a Soundblaster 16 SCSI-2 card which features an Adaptec
AHA-15xxSomething, which controls the SCSI cdrom unit.

The scanner comes along with a SCSI card. It apparently is an Adaptec
AVA-1505.

Does anyone know if this combination of dual host adapters may not be
compatible?

Well the nice part is that the IBM1S506.ADD performance has gone up quite a
bit, and the DaniS506.ADD has gone down lots more.
There are 2 possebilities here, or your test is giving false numbers or the
driver isn't very good.
I suspect both are the case, we used to test HD's and drivers with a util
called RAIDMARK, this is DOS but it doesn't matter, it gives very good number
on what's really happening on your system.

Strange, but not really a problem. This boy just got a college degree
so now he knows EVERYTHING - I'll let him season a bit before I do
anything. The IBM and VIA drivers both work fine and he is just
recovering from his last crash - after blowing an accumulation of West
Texas dirt out of the CPU fan so that it actually turns again... They
say you can always tell a teenager - but not much.

Thanks for the reply, btw. Oh, does your daniadsk do anything for
simple ATAPI CDROM setups w/o the LS-xx type drives installed? And do
you plan to incorporate the ASPI functionality to replace the current
third party ASPIROUT.SYS device? I've got the source code for that
but haven't looked at it too closely yet. Given the original source,
I suspect it could use a bit of tuning and I suspect you're far better
qualified to do that than I am - I haven't done PDD/VDD drivers for a
long time now.

Just switched back to the 1510 about an hour ago, actually (it *is* a 1510--I
was mistaken in my original message).

So far, so good. Ultimately I'd like to replace the 1510 with an adaptor that
could be used as a boot device, but for now I'm happy with something that
allows me to play with partitions, and doesn't bugger up data. :-)

If you want to use the scroll wheel, you can get the OS/2 mouse driver with
scroll wheel support

ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/os2ddpak/scrollms.exe

this driver works only if the mouse is connected to the PS/2 port (see the
text file it comes with)

Partition Magic v3 is the last one with OS/2 executables.

Was that your *first* look at the SDD package? If not, that could be the
problem. I've never had it happen to me, but I know others have. From what
I've seen posted, it initially was caused by having not fully removed an older
unregistered version before installing the latest one... including the
directory. SciTech said they had fixed the problem! Sorry if you found they
haven't!

Was that attempted on an OS/2 system?

Do you know if the AVA-1505 could conceivably support other additional
devices? I suppose it would just be a simple matter to "chain" the next
device from the scanner - assuming that there's an exta port to allow it,
right?

Another thing I failed to consider, is OS/2 support for the Agfa scanner! I
mean.. the scanning software! :( Shit.. looks like I might have to convert
to W95 afterall.

Hi!

I see the CGA graphics drivers in the OS/2 installation, but for some reason I

can't install them (it keeps asking me for a disk containing "vsvga.sy_" which

I'm assuming is a SVGA driver? What does SVGA have to do with CGA?!?).

EGA graphics install fine, but I really want CGA instead for my particular
workstation I want to run OS/2 on.

They should all have passthru connections, so you shouldn't need to disconnect
any of them.

I've had a parallel Zip drive on my Aptiva since I got it three years ago. And
last week someone gave me a ScanAce parallel scanner. So I disconnected the
Zip drive to install the scanner and got it working. Now I've got the scanner
connected to my parallel port, and my printer connected to the scanner.

Now I'm wondering -- forgive me if this is a stupid and naive question -- if I
have to disconnect the scanner every time I want to use the Zip drive, or --
if I can "chain" them by plugging the Zip drive into the scanner (where the
printer is now) and plug the printer cable into the zip drive. Is this
possible?

       Cheers,

You should fixpak it to include the Y2K fixes, the last Warp 3 fixpak
was 40.

Why bother with the AVA 1505. Just hang it off the AHA15xx in addition
to the CDROM. Yoy may meed to source a cable to do this, but it's the
best way.

Yes they only give you a 31 day trial and the new beta nine soesn't like the
Permedia 2 chipset anyway. I hpe they fix it for you in beta 10.

Maybe the CGA support is buried inside there, or it needs access to
that module for some reason.

Well, don't expect much. CGA can only do 640x200 black & white. If you
want 4 colors (particularly *ugly* ones) the resolution drops to
320x200. 16 colors isn't available except in text mode.

But if you do get it working (other than in text mode) do let the rest
of us know. I'd also be interested in what (if any) support there is
for Hercules and for Hercules InColor (a rather strange card that does
720x348 with 16 out of 64 colors on an EGA monitor)

You could also get a good parallel box & attach all parallels to it.

I am planning to get one for 2 printers & a parallel device. They are
as simple as switching between or fancier automatic detects.

If this scanner is a SCSI scanner, you should be able to use it on OS/2 with
the OS/2-port of the Sane software.
