I'm not imposing on anyone. I just asked him a question. How can you
moderate an echo, if you don't actively participate in it? It is also
important to READ the messages, since keeping people on topic is one of the
chief duties of the moderator.

That IS part of his duty, is it not?

Also seems to me like a valid point. Of course it would. <g>

Good for you... However, moderating does require you at LEAST read the echo.
Otherwise, what is the point of being a moderator?

Steve.

Moderation in the first place consisting of ELISTing the echo when necessary
and in the second place in dealing with trouble situations, what else is
necessary?

Yes. And in _any_ echo things do diverge from strict topicality from time to
time. Some moderators are very strict about that sort of thing, while others
have a tendency to allow a lot more slack, figuring that things will
eventually get back on track, which they often do.

ST>> Wondering if you could please DO YOUR JOB and post the rules in
 ST>> the echo.

ST> That IS part of his duty, is it not?

Is it? I moderate four backboned echos and don't remember the last time I
posted any rules in any of them. Been going on that way for years, too.

Well, who knows? Maybe some personal stuff got in the way of that, maybe it
was something else. I'm sure not going to try and tell somebody what the
priority of such a "job" should be. Nor am I inclined to further clutter up
this echo with what's not really topical, so if you want to pursue this let's
take it to some other channel...

Right here. EleBBS/2 on Os/2 warp 4 (no fixpacks. I will eventually fix that,
but I need some free time which I don't have currently).

Subj: Question for DOS Doors

I seem to be having some kind of COM BLEED when using SIO and doing anything
while the modem is in use, but it only happens when accessing a DOS door.

Here's an exampe, given the following nodes (This is EleBBS, FWIW):
Line 0:	Local Node - No non-local access.
Line 1:	Modem Line - Used for Incoming users and mail transfers (FTSC
or INET)

Line Status:

Line 0: Me logged in locally
Line 1: TransX/DOS sending/recieving mail/files.

If I try to access, say, OLMS, the Comm input is redirected from the
TransX Session to the OLMS window. Thus I get garbage in there and it
seeming operates by itiself. Now I can access the BBS just fine always, and I
can access OLMS Just fine, IF There is no other DOS program doing any COMM
access.

Does anyone know of any ideas to stop this? I'm thinking of going multi-node
soon, but if everything the person in the door on line 1 is sent to the person
on the door in line 0, that just won't work.

Thanks!

Subj: Tape drive, drivers for OS2.

Hello All,

I have an ARCHIVE CORP. 'Python' Model 4326np tape drive at home , which
contains and also is the "only" existing source of a small number of vital BBS
programs for my (BBS) use. With other words I have to get some programs off
the tape drive.

The drive is a 4/8Mb 4mm DAT Drive which displays on the front 'DDS2 Digital
Data Storage'. The programs stored have been written to numerous tape
diskettes by the OS/2 Sytos software. Firmware of the drive is to my knowlegde
4.00.

It is very difficult for me to find an OS/2 standalone driver.

The history of the drive is that it was manufactured by Archive Corp for IBM
and today Seagate is in charge of it's support. Seagate can only produce
Windows, NT and other none OS2 drivers. Unfortunatly, this particular tape
drive is largly supported by proprietary backup software only.

A friend of mine, who is a BBS colleague has told me that there was an OS/2
standalone driver for this drive in existence. Source unknown.

Could someone help please?

Regards ... Wolf Cornelius
