Well I have an ATI RAGE Fury and it worked fine with SDD ar
800resolution, don't know about 1024 because my monitor don't support
it. Again SDD drivers are excellent.

We should see soon ATI drivers from IBM since ATI went Open osurce
with the drivers...

See later,

Go to the Rivia web page and get their OS/2 driver. It should do the
job.

Yes,

It works with no problems with an ATI 3D Rage II C card

On my system it won't cold boot with a Matrox G400
but if the driver is installed and the system is never
powered off the driver works fine.

The above cards are on a system with WSeB SMP

The driver also worked fine with a Matrox Millenium II
PCI card with 4 Mbyte of RAM on a Warp 4 FP 12
system.

Works with my Millennium G-200, but I can't get refresh rates above

Run Install from the MACH 64 directory. Install asks you to select from a
monitor list or describe the details for your monitor. System folder can only
change screen resolution.

Subj: SVGA installation

From: "FI" <ifox@easynet.co.uk>

Please could you help me with some issues regarding SVGA display driver
installation on OS2 machines.

I have been given a project to investigate how to install SVGA display
drivers on a number of workstations connected together on a small LAN. There
are approx. 7 totally different makes/models of PC connected to this LAN and
therefore a similar number of device drivers. All these individual machines
are to have their SVGA drivers installed via the LAN's fileserver - I am not
allowed to use diskettes on each individual machine!!

I have done some reading and it seems a good idea to try and do this via a
CID type mechanism.

Further reading indicates to me that I can use the DSPINSTL.EXE to do the
processing.

My plan is this: When each machine boots up I will get it to identify itself
to the fileserver such that the fileserver 'knows' the make and model of the
machine. The fileserver will then download the SVGA drivers appropriate to
that machine. I am fairly confident I can do this bit.

I am building a *.DSC and a *.DSP file - as used by DSPINSTL.EXE for each of
the various machine types. I think I am OK with building the *.DSC's but
could use some help with my *.DSP's. I have looked at DSP's relating to
other drivers but this has only raised more questions!

My questions are as follows (sorry there's a few of them!):
1. :FILES :MODE=PRIMARY :MODE=DOS - I have seen files being copied using
this 'Key' is this necessary (i.e MODE=DOS) or can I just include the DOS
related files in a list with all the other OS2 DLL's?

2. :CONFIG :MODE=PRIMARY :MODE=BIDI ****WHAT IS THIS????
     SET VIO_SVGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA,BDBVH)
What does the BIDI mean? What effect does its use have?

3. CONFIG :MODE=PRIMARY :MODE=DOS
DEVICE=%BOOTDRIVE%:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS
DEVICE=%BOOTDRIVE%:\OS2\MDOS\VPRPMI.SYS
As for question 1, do I need to use this?

4.
:OS2INI :MODE=PRIMARY
OS2.INI
PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS M6432 M6432
PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS CURRENTDRIVER M6432
*LEAVE DEFAULTDRIVER ALONE IN CASE INSTALL FAILS
*PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS DEFAULTDRIVER M6432
*RESET TO 640x480
PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS DEFAULTSYSTEMRESOLUTION 0

What effect do the above lines have? Especially the DEFAULTSYSTEMRESOLUTION
0
I've also seen the following line..what does it do??
PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS RESOLUTION_CHANGED 1

5. I need to ensure that each machine is set to a refresh rate of 72-75Hz.
This is not always easily possible e.g. when using the GRADD drivers. I
therefore need a method of doing this. I have been using VCFGCID.CMD
(OS2\INSTALL). This works on all but one of my machines but on one I get an
error message: "ERROR: 1 error getting current desktop mode". This is really
annoying me- if you can explain an alternative method or suggest what is
going wrong I'll be very greatful.
Can I force the refresh rate to this value in my *.DSP files somehow?? (All
the machines will support this resolution by the way).

6.:OS2INI :MODE=PRIMARY
%BOOTDRIVE%:\OS2\INSTALL\REINSTAL.INI -What effect does this line have?

7. I have been using SVGA.EXE to generate an SVGADATA.PMI. However, I keep
getting a message "Unrecognised card or chipset" Why is this? -apart from
the obvious -It doesn't recognise the chipset!!! Would a more upto-date
version of SVGA be likely to recognise the chipset? If so where can I find
the most upto-date version - or is there an alternative?

I would appreciate any help you can give me. Unfortunately, like a typical
student I have left this all to the last minute so If you can reply, the
sooner the better!!

Thanks

IDF.

I know some people are reporting success with the Matrox G200 video
card, but beta 10 of the SciTech drivers kept giving me a totally black
screen from which I could not recover, and I could not get the system to
boot after installing beta 11.

Perhaps my 3rd-party screen saver is part of the problem.

I think I'll wait for a non-beta version before I try again.

Lessee... if you need I could probably spare a Trident TGUI 9440 PCI card

I also have an ATI Mach 32 (1Mb) I'm not using, but it's VESA local bus.

Well we have a bunch of Trident 9440 boards, so it won't be much use. As
far as support goes, the next beta of SDD should include full
acceleration support on the Trident 9440 chipsets (hopefully all Tridents
will make it in, right up to the latest Blade3D; alas Laptop chipsets are
still not supported though).

We are not supporting VLB anymore, and we have a few of those also ;-)

Hello,
just stumbled over your append. I'm using an ATI-Xpert card (AGP, Rage
Pro 3D) for two years under WARP 4.0.
Enclosed by the card was an ATI-CD with drivers. There also were
OS2-drivers
a little bit hidden in the \UTILITY directory (when I remeber
correctly).
These drivers are working fine up to high res. Using them at 1280...

If you don't find the drivers on the ATI-support site you could give
them
a call. ATI is sending you the driver CD-rom, when you ask for it.
Don't
remember the price..

Ingo Stephany

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find usefull info here -
</http://publib.boulder.ibm.com:80/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/SG244295/CCONTENTS/>

and the contents of README.CID on DISK_0.

Basically, get the drivers into the distribution tree, and point DSPINSTL
at 'em..

[Why the stock (ring0) ATI drivers suck..]

Revert, remove, reconfigure, reinstall.. per README64.INF

Alt-F1 at the 'boot blob' and revert to VGA.

OS2INSTL to remove, reconfigure and reinstall the driver set.
Remember to scribble EEDATA.EE_ for EEPROM-less cards..

Have you tried the GRADD package?

Ok, thought I would give them a go. They loaded ok machine came up, I selected

Came up ok but only at 60Hz. Very hard to put up with the flicker.
Looking at page 2 of the SYSTEM folder and it says that the driver will
support 85Hz.
How do you select it?
