My 'config.sys' file is only 275 lines, so this can't be it.
I noticed that I could install video drivers if I use the CID install and use
the /u switch for automatic install with no user inputs. It seems to be a
problem with the user interface that allows you to select a the driver you
want to install. If I try to install a video driver using 'Selective
Install', I get the same crash after selecting primary display. Thanks for
the help.

I have a old ISA video card with the WD90C30 Chip and WD BIOS chips

I have added memory chips 4 (aa1m304p-07) and still can not get over
640x480x256 color from the card. Does anyone have a manual with the
switch settings and what JP2 does?

Take a look here -
</ftp://tridentmicro.com/outgoing/DRIVERS/00-index.txt/>

at the very bottom..

And here - </http://www.os2forum.or.at/pharmacy/Tri9400_2.html/>

Remember to use the dos utility to setup the card..

The 8900 is really pretty slow. Consider digging around for an S3-based
ISA card..

An alternative that I am finding increasingly effective is to only change
things on the system through a command file. This is my record of what I
did, and if it is OK I can repeat it if necessary with confidence. Of
course, to be really useful I keep the commands on a separate LAN connected
machine (and backed up) and, there are still things that I cannot figure out
how to do by command. and sometimes, when lots of little fiddly changes are
called for, a test system is nice to have. What I would really love is the
ability to copy a system to another drive and change all the drive letter
references. What a great test environment that would be.

If only I could be disciplined enough not to go back in manually and
start making command line changes (unlogged, of course) when the
system won't come back up.

This issue ties to the one regarding "Desktop Portability", it seems
to me, and I'm surprised a better solution hasn't come up. I, too,
have attempted moving a C: install to D: and tried to make all the
reference changes, and failed. But we know the number of drive letter
entries are finite, so it's just a matter of building a data base that
ultimately includes everything. A true "registry", in other words.

On the Window$ side, I just saw an ad for "Desktop DNA", a product
that promised to "preserve and move everything that makes up your
system's identity---your bookmarks, dictionaries, palettes, and
more---through customized upgrades or entire system migrations." (the
refernce URL is http://www.miramarsys.com/dpub.htm ) and I suspect
something like this might turn into a successful product for somebody.

It would also be interesting to start with, in OS/2, a logging daemon
that recorded changes made in system files affecting configuration.

Hurry up, programmers. Get this thing written quickly and I'll put one
under my Xmas tree.

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV 404 card [mono, no radio] with the
Abottsbury Wcast driver and Stefan Milcke's StwTV app. These are
native OS/2 apps and have some nice features. I've got a Matrox G200
and the latest Matrox driver for video setup.

This combo is satisfactory, tho' better for watching the news or a 1/2
hour sitcom than a full-length movie...the video quality is not as
good as it could be [for eg. under 'that other' operating system...]

Hi. Sorry if this is the wrong group. I'm trying to get sound going in my
OS2/4 system which I run on a separate partition. I have AWE64 and PCI 128
sound cards. Are there drivers for them and can the operating system live
with two cards installed? I tried the AWE 32 drivers but they didn't seem to
work.

Another question I have has to do with adjusting refresh rates. I got my ATI
Rage Pro video card working well but couldn't find a way to change the

Hello
can anyone help me with questions about video compression and bandwidth.

If i have a video on a server and wish to display it , not download it,(with
suitable software) to a dialup client say with a 56k modem.

1 will it work ?
2. what are the video compression technologies ?
3. what are the bandwidth requirements to playing video over a connection ?

thank you for any help

From: Alexander <skorokha@mail.uni-mainz.de>

Hi there,

I have the following problem: we have to use OS/2 with scientific
device. I installed OS/2 Warp 3 on logical partition on the brand new
computer with SCSI-hardware. The only one problem left - screen
resolution. FOr the first time I tried to install the drivers for Elsa
Erasor II with Riva TNT chip (I found tntb5.zip at os2ss.com). The
installation program said that the operating system is not correct. I
supposed that the drivers are for Warp 4. Then we exchange the graphic
card for ATI Rage128gl. The drivers downloaded from compaq.com did not
wark at all - I suppose the chip is not for those drivers.
I would like to ask you what would be the best graphic card that is
supported by OS/2 drivers?

Alexander.

As far as I know, only Matrox or Elsa should be considered. You should
visit their homepages and investigate what cards are supported. Newer
Elsa cards seem to have GRADD drivers. GRADD came with Warp4 and for
Warp3 with some later Fixpac.
My private system runs with an Elsa winner2000/office. This card too
requires GRADD support and runs fine with my Warp4. On my Warp3 I
installed that Fixpac with GRADD support and the Elsa driver
installation program did not complain any more about wrong OS Version,
but nevertheless I got a trap in SINGLEQ$ at boot time. I did not get it
fixed up to now (I did not have time to do).
Take a card which doesnt require GRADD support.

You just need white (RGB 255 255 255) folder background and printing
will work. Everything else you can change as you wish.

I have seen problems with screen colors being wrong (too dark) when
running the S3 video drivers for certain high color modes . Can't
recall the specifics -- just try switching between 32k, 65k and 16M
colors to find what works best. The GRADD drivers work nicely for
OS/2 applications, but are terribly slow if you need seamless WinOS2
support.

To get anything more than base VGA 640X480X16 you have
to install the video drivers for the card.

The IBM GRADD drivers have a "generic" SVGA driver
that works with VESA compliant video cards for higher
resolutions and colour depth. You can get these from

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/videopak/graddbb/gradd80.ex
e

The Scitech Device Doctor drivers will support a large
number of cards and work very well with some cards and
NOT too well with others. They are currently in beta.

You can download a trial copy from

The base video system expects register compatible VGA, and bashes
registers..

Your video rig is going to be outta sync until the PM drivers come up..

From: "Walter S. Rue" <wsrue@BellAtlantic.net>

With multiple application windows open, when I change focus from one to
another, the cursor image fails to change with it, or it may change to
something alien like cross-hairs. Another variation occurs by simply
moving the cursor out of the focus window (without changing focus),
where it adopts an image presumably native to whatever non-focus window
is under it and, again, retains that image as it crosses back into the
focus window. Though not sure, it may be doing this more often right to
left than the other way. The only dependable way to reset back to the
focus cursor is by sweeping it directly over the desktop (if adjacent)
and back.

I am at FP12, but this has been going on for several FPs. My graphics
card is a Martrox Millennium II with the v2.23.082 driver and the BIOS
at either v3.43 or v3.49. I have tried the v2.31 driver twice without
success.

I guess the first question is of whether this is caused or can be
corrected by the graphics card?

Thanks in advance.

No Page 2 on the Screen tab of the System notebook, running on the stock
ATI (Ring 0) drivers. Revert, remove, reconfigure and reinstall per
README64.INF.. :-p

If your Rage is a non-EEPROM card, OS2INST et al. will want
to scribble EEDATA.EE_ in the '..directory to install Adapter Utility..' I
toss mine into the driver directory \MACH_OS2.

The distributed driver set from ATI has a bum BVHSVGA.DLL Extract a
useable one from the WARP 4 DDpak CD Mach64 driver set.

Try the GRADD set, which has accelerated support for this card. Under
[RedSpine] Warp 3 FP39, I had issues regarding pointer updates. Potential
resolution may require using true B&W pointer sets..

From: Sean Rogers <rogers@unbsj.ca>

I am attempting to install Warp V 3.0 on my machine which has a SiS 6215
as the video adapter. I downloaded some files from their website that
are supposed to contain the proper drivers. Once I unpack them though I
have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions?

Thanks

not yet, there is no driver at this time.
i'll get my geforce next week, hopefully, and will
give vga a try on it.

i just asked all (nvidia, asus, elsa, ...) for
os/2 drivers. if enough people ask, they probably
will code a driver.
