Subj: Joystick Device Driver Contest.....New Entries!!

From: stefanj@gte.net (Jason Stefanovich)

I have received a new entry from J Da Silva,
An enhanced version of the popular gameport.sys.

MAMERun Joystick Device Driver Contest.

What is it?

Write your own joystick device driver for OS/2 and you could win $290
plus valuable prizes and earn the respect and gratitude of OS/2
gamers around the world! With the many new games available and the
advance of game controllers there arises a need for a better
joystick device driver than IBM's advanced joystick device driver.
Support for new controller features, such as 8+ buttons or USB, will
greatly enhance the OS/2 gaming experience for gamers as well as
developers.

For rules and other information check out:

Subj: OS/2 Java version 2 question

From: "Simon Gronlund" <noospam@ibm.net>

Hi

since I am in desperate need of the policy and verification tools of JDK 2,
does anyone know how to get to them under OS/2. I am now using

JAVA.EXE full version "JDK 1.1.8 IBM build o118-19991026 (JIT enabled: javax
V3.5-IBMJDK1.1-19991026)"

but can consider anything to avoid rebooting to Win, though I have Java 2 at
that partition ;-)

Please

Simon

You have no options. If you truly need the JDK 2.0 environment and don't want
a
windows solution, then install Linux and grab a blackdown port of the jdk 1.2.
It's a very viable solution.

As for JDK 2.0 on OS/2... be prepared to pay for it when it comes out, it
ain't
gonna' be free like everyone elses JDK...

Porting plans for IBM version of Java is here...

http://www.ibm.com/java/jdk/other/portingplans.html

For OS/2, GA sometime in 2Q2000. As for paying for it... It is my
understanding that software choice is going to go away. That does not
necessarily mean that you can't get it from hursley or from IBM's Java
site for free. None of IBM's platforms has anything newer than
1.1.8. One only as 1.1.4.
