John,

The p2p package does in fact come in the Bonus pak, the warp 3 bonus
pak, but this installs perfectly well from a warp 4 environment, and
works great.

Trouble is :

to use the video conferancing, you must have the proprietary Intel video
capture card/driver combo ($$$)

Unfortunately, the CUCeeMe people have turned into arrogant boneheads,
and are totally hostile (Illinois can be like that, but it doesn't have
to be)

There is a time limited demo of the Haupauge enabled CUCeeMee, at Pete
Norloffs, just set your machine to a date of (and it's been a while, so
forgibve if my guess is wrong) prior to April 1999, or you will get
nothing but expiration messages on the video transmission app. good luck

Did you have a previous sound card installed that you removed? If so,
you have to remove the old drivers. The easiest procedure to do this
for me has been:

1. erase the mmos2 structure with deltree
2. reinstall multimedia services from warp cd
3. Install aureal drivers
4. reapply fixpack (fixpack 12 in my case)

This approach guarantees that previous drivers
are gone. Also, when you do step 3, be sure that you do not have a
sound card selected when you reinstall multimedia services. When you
reapply fixpack 12, the service tool
will examine the system and only apply the few files necessary to update
MMOS2 and not all of the fixpack 12 files.

have a sound card selected in Step 3 which was incorrect...meant step 2
for reinstall of multimedia services.)

Hi,

Someone had success with a Microtek X6EL SCSI Scanner under OS/2?

It's seem that only Sane/2 can provide the ability to run this scanner
under Warp, but it still in "alpha".

I want to buy a scanner and this one fit my need.

thanks

I have fixed a bug in mtek004.zip from hobbes and that program now
works fine with my E6 scanner. I will post the file to my webpage
today as mtek005.zip. Get it and try it out. It may work for you as
well.

Hi,

Just to expand on Lorne's note.... I have an Intel SE440BX-2 mobo
which has a Yamaha 740B (not C) sound chip in it. I sent a note to
Daniela asking her to include the B variant in her code. She replied
that her patch will fix this one as well. ... sounds like pretty smart
code. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm confident it will work as she
says.

So all you folks with Intel OEM, Dell, or other suppliers mobo's based
on the SE440BX-2 with Yamaha 740 sound chip are now in business.

Well this is going to sound like a dumb question....

Now that I have OS/2 drivers for my mobo sound chip (Yamaha 740B), and
can pull out my SoundBlaster card, ummm what do I do for software? I
have some Creative Labs stuff for CD's, and a mixer, etc -- all of which
are for the SoundBlaster card. Will these work now on the Yamaha? Or
do I have to start looking thru Hobbes for generic stuff?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can use the "generic" Warpmixer. This is an MCI
based mixer that works with the Yamaha drivers. The
program uses the MCI extended mixer API and that is
supported by the YMF724 driver.

The only place I know of to obtain it is from the
DDK (Device Driver Development Kit) The source
code is included but you need a VAC++ version 3.08
compiler to make the EXE. It works fairly well. This
is the one I'm using.

There was another one floating around the web at one
time. It was written by an IBM employee (Sam D.) but
I could not find it at the EWS software site.

The normal MMOS/2 CD player software works without
any problems...

   Pierre,

I use PM123 to listen to HTTP streamed MP3 music by setting up Netscape to
use PM123 as a helper.

Open Netscape, go to Edit>Preferences>Applications. Choose 'New Type'.
Fill in the description however you want. Put 'M3U' (no quotes) as the
extension. Put 'audio/x-mpegurl' (no quotes) as the MIME type. Browse to the
location of your MP3 player (in my case PM123). Hit 'OK'.

I'm listening to the Cucumbers' Indivisible as I type...

But it gets better because at least my computer won't get a trap000d

That's odd, (the trap 000D that is) considering the distributed
driver is for the YMF724D chip.

The driver will only work when it has Exclusive access to
the IRQ assigned to the card. This is kind of stupid when
you consider that all PCI device drivers are supposed to
allow for shared IRQ assignments and given that OS/2
does not provide any method of changing the IRQ
assigned by the PCI BIOS.

Does your machine assign a unique IRQ to the sound card?

If it doesn't the driver may not actually load. Take a
look at the "Hardware Manage" in the "System Setup"
folder and see if the driver appears there.
Or use the SCANPCI program that is in the incoming
directory of http://hobbes.nmsu.edu and check what
the PCI bios scan has detected and what IRQ
assignments have been made.

All Warp4 drivers should work perfectly fine under Warp3, and most even
under Warp2.1!

The Diamond Monster Sound has drivers, and a number of products based
on Crystal Semiconductor chipsets are also available. I have an AOpen
AW320, and it works well enough. No MIDI under OS/2, and it doesn't
look like driver development has gone anywhere since Timur stopped
working for Crystal. Speaking of Timur Tabi, he's got a great site
about Crystal products for OS/2 at:
http://www.tabi.org/timur/crystalos2.html

The main table of interest is about half-way down. It lists all the
chipsets and if they have OS/2 driver.

I would suggest a Connectix (now Logitech really) Color QuickCam, with
the software at:

Or any composite video-out camera to plug into the next item on your
list:

The WinCast line of cards has some pretty decent drivers I'm told.
Don't own one myself. I think the URL is:

but I could be wrong.

From: jpolt@bradnet.legend.co.uk (John Poltorak)

I'm trying to get sound working properly on my PC730 under WSeB....

During installation no Multimedia Devices were auto-detected, don't
know why that should. I'm not exactly sure which driver is required,
but there is a chip on the motherboard which says Crystal CS4231A-K0,
so I guess CS4231 must be the right one - it's one of the available options,
and I do get sound when I select this, at least under OS/2....

How do I get sound support in DOS and Windows?

Also, when trying to configure this driver under OS/2, a number of options
are available, Port Address, IRQ, DMA settings etc. none of which mean
much to me. Is it safe to assune the defaults are correct, especially
if I am getting sound?

John,

The driver I use (on my ISA PC 730) is from cwos2175.zip at the Cirrus
(who bought Crystal) web site, at
http://www.cirrus.com/drivers/audiodrv/os2.html. It does Windows sound
too (I'm not sure if I've tried sound under DOS).

I did have to make a change in CONFIG.SYS - on the BASEDEV=CWAUDIO.SYS line,
remove the /L: parameter so that the "line" input will be muted. I'm not
sure what device it corresponds to on this system, but I got terrible
noises if I didn't do that.

I also recall having to make a change in a Windows file, probably
CS32BA11.INI, to prevent sound from being totally disabled on exiting
Windows, but I can't find that right now and can't verify it's still
needed. It might have been in the DOS/Windows driver.

As for the driver options, you basically need to make sure they're
the same as in the BIOS setup...

Hope this helps!

I got a Yamaha 6416 SCSI connected to an Adaptec UW 2940 adapter. It works
really fine with CDRecord /2 1.8a24b and newer releases. And it's fast,

Try my homepage of the PC730 http://sander.fransen.com

The crystal4231 is the infamous: Microsoft Windows SoundSystem. The right
io, irq and dma-settings can be set/read in the "bios". Windows can't detect
them, so you will have to set them manually. The Win98 MSS driver has a
"soundblaster" compatibility-selector, which in fact means "dos

The MIDI volume input on the card may be set to zero.

Download the IBM device driver development kit and
build the Warpmix mixer that works with the card. You need
VAC ++ version 3 to build the mixer.

If you don't have VAC++ drop me an E-Mail and I'll
send you the binary.

This is intended for anyone who may have purchased the "IBM" 16-bit ISA

would like to find out what
chipset this card is based on. Also, what you thought of its features
and performance. It is listed
as having full-duplex mono, half-duplex stereo . . . which seems like
it might be a lot less "full-
duplex" than some others that are or have been available. If there is
an IBM phone # I could call
to get this info, that would be O.K. too. (Ind. Blue already provided
the limited info they had.)

There is also a PCI card with an IBM nameplate added to it, but I'm sure
it must use a different
chipset. These are *not* cheap cards.

TIA.

Terratec just ignored my emails when I asked if it would work.

Please re-confirm that the card works with the Aureal drivers

Does anyone have knowledge of Canyon3D Drivers for OS/2????

Hi David!

They irgone everything containing OS/2. I talked to the main developper last
cebit in Hannover, he said that there will be NO! support for OS/2 ever again.

>Please re-confirm that the card works with the Aureal drivers
It works. No problem playing WAV, MP3 or Midi unter OS/2. I haven't installed
WinOS2 or DOS (protectonly=yes), so I don't care for (Win-)DOS support unter
Warp.
To install the AU8820 drivers remove the whole MMPM stuff and install it again
after a reboot. Then install the Vortex drivers with minstall, reboot. That's
all. In Germany the XLerate is currently available for DM55.- (US$29). Be sure
not to purchase the PRO version, this one WILL NOT WORK under Warp, because it
has the AU8830 CODEC.
The XLerate works unter Win32, Linux and Beos (Beos = a friend of mine told
me) as well.

I am not sure what the part number is, but I have a card, that the
user's guide refers to as a CD583/584 Multimedia Upgrade Kit. I did
get it to work with OS/2, by using a driver called MOZART.SYS. The
references that I have for this program are ancient, and I don't think
they are still any good, but look around, in the usual places, for
MOZART07.ZIP. It is shareware, and may have been updated. If you can't
find it, e-mail me (adjust the address as instructed), and I will send
it to you.

I have no idea if you have the same, or even a similar, card, but the
MOZART driver worked for me. Of course, if you are going to buy a new
card, forget those ones, and get a Crystal chipset based card, which
will work MUCH better (even in a WinXX environment).

Hope this helps...

I play MP3s on my system using WarpAMP b4. I have an Aureal Vortex 1
PCI sound card. When I play the same MP3s on the same hardware using
Windows and WinAMP, there are tiny changes in pitch that seem to be
caused by the WinAmp and Windows system timing. I would have never
noticed this if I hadn't first listened to the same MP3s on OS/2 which
seems to have 'perfect pitch' relatively speaking anyway. After
listening to these MP3s on OS/2, it is irritating to listen to them on
WinAMP. Maybe my ear has become too sensitive. Has anyone else noticed
this?

I checked it. Get this: substract the WarpAMP output from the one
produced by WinAMP; then store the soundfile you've obtained. If you
now play this new soundfile _backwards_, you hear the text: "Bill
Gates is God. I shall never buy anything but Microsoft again", spoken
by Jay Leno. Mind you, don't try to play this soundfile on a
Windows-PC, or it will self-combust, as my friend found out.

If you use WinAMP more than 10 times, you're hooked for life.

Help, please.
I can not play an audio CD.
It is a NEC IDE on the second IDE controller.
I have WARP GA with Fixpak 38.
I have installed all the latest drivers from (IDEDASD.EXE).
I have tried the multimedia CD player and one from Hobbes.
As far as I can tell all the drivers load from config.sys.
I didn't put any parameters on the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD statement.

I've noticed this, but always assumed it was a sound card/driver issue.

I have an HP Pavillion with Rockwell chip sound support unders Windows.
Under OS/2 I use USB Audio to drive Labtec speakers with the IBM provided
drivers.
So in my case, it could be a driver issue.

Using WarpAMP b4, the sound is much better to my ears than WinAMP under
Windows.
