Did your SCSI controller come with the scanner? Some scanner mfg.'s that
bundle scsi cards are somewhat propritary (only will work with their drivers

and, or scsi card).
I had that problem with a Mustek scanner I had bought. It would only work
with their supplied (and very limited) scsi card. No matter what I tried I
could
not get it to work with my symbios logic card and cfm twain. I shortly
thereafter
ditched that scanner and purchased an HP which works both fine with cfm
and my nice PCI scsi card.

I have the same scanner and drivers that, if it's any consolation, work fine
with a Tekram 310U SCSI card. If you can't get it to work, the Tekram is not
too expensive.

My Vibra 16 PnP works fine in Warp 4 and 3 but it is a CT chip. The CX must
not work with the last set of Creative drivers.

I've got nearly the same problem with an AW37Pro. The only difference I can
see
is that I get a TRAP 000d when the midi file stops playing. This happens if it
finishes playing or I try to stop it. It also will not stop playing when you
shutdown OS/2 until you give it the three finger salute and it starts playing
again as soon as you reboot. I had to quickly edit config.sys to comment out
the drivers before it finished. I didn't make it the first time.

Your config.sys looks exactly like mine.

From: jdc0014@InfoNET.st-johns.nf.ca (John Hong)

Just got a Matrox Millenium II PCI card and so far am loving it.
However, I have discovered a problem in conjunction with my AOpen AW35
Pro ISA soundcard (Crystal Semiconductor chipset). Ok, I install the
Matrox drivers (2.31.00, the card's BIOS is already at v1.5, BTW).
Everything is working fine. Now, when I install the soundcard driver,
bang, Win-OS/2 is gone. It just doesn't load up. Now here is the weird
part, if I install the MGA GRADD driver than I get Win-OS/2 back again.
Has anyone else seen a problem like that? Not that I am complaining
since as long as it works is fine by me, but I would prefer the Matrox
drivers mainly for its Win-OS/2 performance.

don't the release drivers work for you? I haven't tried the SCSI side,

Please take a look at http://www.thetaband.com . We offer a product called
MMPack that incorporates a MIDI driver for OS/2.

We have also partnered with a hardware vendor that sells MIDI equipment. Check
out http://www.thetaband.com/hardware.html .

We don't have MIDI, applications but you can look at MIDI Station Sequencer
for that. See http://www.bmtmicro.com/catalog/midistationseq.html

Can anyone please help me. In the SystemSetup folder, the Icons/Objects

and provide the names of the programs associated with these objects so
that I can edit the properties of these object and point them to their
proper executable.

"Device Driver Install"
"Selective Install"
"Selective UnInstall"
"Add Programs"
"DDNS configuration"
"DHCP Monitor"
"Adapters and Protocol Services"
"Create Utility Diskettes"

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. You are the only vendor that I'm aware of with
this much to offer in OS/2. That is part of the reason for my post, to
discover the full range of available options. Unless something else
unexpected is posted, you will likely get the nod.

Hi --

If it really *is* the SCSI H/A, can't help you there. But some
not-explicitly-supported Umax
models could be tricked into working by altering the .INI file so that it
was set for an older
model that was supported. (I have a PowerLook II, no longer in their model
line, and the
.INI file is set to report it as a Vista S-12, I think.) Don't know if this
would work for their
current models. If it doesn't, your only other prospect would seem to be
PMSANE. About
8 months ago, I was told by the SANE developer that only the 1.01b beta
version might
work for Umax, though I haven't yet gotten around to trying it out. (SANE
has a forum at
egroups.com )

Curiously enough -- or perhaps not, if you know more about this stuff than I
do, which
wouldn't be difficult -- I ran some comparative scan tests under parameters
as close to the same
as I could make them, between BinuScan or MagicScan running under NT, and
CFM running
under Warp. The NT-based scans turned out much better, and I don't know
why.

Good Luck.

By most accounts I've heard, this is not really worth doing anymore, with
3.0 or 5.0. Most of
the RA content you're going to be running into these days will be G2, the
current standard,
and won't be available to you in Warp, using the older players.

Not that I've heard of. However, there was some kind of Shockwave for OS/2
project afoot,
and linked at the NetLabs site. Probably still far from beta, but we can
still
hope. If anything
comes of it, I'm sure the word will get around fast.

(Adrian G., if you're passing by and happen to see this, I would still be
inclined to say that
Odin might be the highest priority, in terms of what could really provide the
most benefit to
OS/2. But things like RealAudio and Shockwave definitely get people's
attention, so if there
is any way that there _could be_ native OS/2 versions of these, they would
probably place
high on the list as well. ) (And yes, I recognize that there could be legal /
licensing issues,
even if programmer resources wasn't the roadblock here . . . . )

I've been able to get the win16 version of Shockwave to work by installing it
in a full-screen OS/2 session and then creating the following applications in
Communicator 4.61 via, Edit, Preferences, Navigator, Applications and then
select New Type. Make sure you install Shockwave in your win16 plugins
directory, e.g. x::\NETSCAPE\PROGRAM\WIN16\PLUGINS\ One site I've tried it
out on is www.edge102.com

Hope this helps...

the Matrox drivers (all versions).

The GRADD drivers make this problem go away for me...

It's some sort of initialisation problem; if I run a seamless version
immediately after a full-screen version, it's fine. Odd, but then I
don't have much use for RealAudio; I'll keep prodding at it, anyhow.

Not necessarily true. Anything that allocates memory for bitmaps
through DIVE can use this memory if the drivers support it (and most
do). MAME for OS/2 operates this way.

The YCRW4416S is fine with WSeB providing you have the latest flash update on
it (1.0h). I had problems when upgrading from Warp 4.0 to WSeB in that the
boot process wouldn't get past loading AIC78U2.ADD. Updating the firmware to
the latest level fixed the problem and it now works beautifully :)

When the MMINSTAL selection window is showing (that's
the one that lists the components to install) move it
half way off the screen to the right. Then press the
"Install" button.

The PMMERGE.DLL trap is caused by some problem
when displaying a dialog box that is hidden behind
the selection window for MMINSTAL.

This started sometime after fixpack 6 or 8.

As thing are now, The SB Live Value is a no-no.
AWE32 was the last with OS/2 support (maybe AWE64 in beta, never official)
Creative recently published the (Linux) sources for SB Live driver.
It still doesn't support MIDI (AFAIK). And it will be a heck of a task to
adapt the sources for OS/2

I've sent 90+ MB files across without problems. Even has OS/2 drivers :-)

I had tried this but it was unavailable at the time, but I have it now, thnks.

In the readme it says:-

This is the Vortex AU8820 OS/2 driver version 1.00. This driver has
very limited feature support and will only run in native OS/2. There
are no plans to support Win OS/2.

Does this mean I can't get sound out of Windows programs?

The driver insists on obtaining an exclusive use IRQ for
the card. Check to see if any other PCI cards are using
the same IRQ as the sound card. This was particularly
annoying for me as the machine I have (A-Trend 6280 MB)
does not have a way of forcing an IRQ assignment for
a PCI slot. I ended up shuffling cards around until the
"plug and pray" BIOS decided to assign the card
a unique IRQ.

The driver is resource manager aware so the
"Hardware Manager" in the "System Setup" folder
will show the driver if it managed to load itself.

Also if you have two PCI busses in your machine the
card will only work if it is in PCI bus 0 (the A-Trend MB
has two PCI busses so I ran into this as well).

I sent an E-Mail off to Aureal support about these
two shortcomings, but I have yet to receive a
response.

If you are running WSeB the driver will trap unless
you have a patched kernel. (I received one from
Scott Garfinkle that fixes the trap problem when I
was testing for some JFS problems. This kernel
might be available with FP 1 for WSeB)

Also, due to a bug in Warp Server for e-Business, you can't use these drivers
with WSeB GA. It will be available in the first fixpack (next month, I
think).

How's it going?

I've just got my Yamaha CRW6416S and it refuses to work. This is the only
internal SCSI device (ID=3)
on my Adaptec 2940. It has two external devices, JAZZ(ID=2) and UMAX Astra

Hi Nick, So for so good.
The installation went well and added just two lines in config.sys.

BASEDEV=FLASHPT.ADD
BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD

I have a Mylex/Buslogic (SCSI-2 BT-930R), with auto termination enabled
and the Yamaha CDRW is the only device; is installed with the factory
settings.

I am not familiar with your card, but I think your card had to be
terminated since your previously installed devices were external ones.
Now that you've installed an internal device check that your card is no
longer terminated. That could be it.

Thanks.

I have v4 fixpak 10 using an ASUS P2L97 motherboard with an ASUS PCI-SC200
card. I've had no problems using RSJ CDWriter with a Yamaha 4416 internal
SCSI CD-recorder. RSJ rems out IBMIDECD.FLT and substitutes is own
RSJIDECD.FLT. I did have to get a new CD drive (IDE, seondary master) in
order to transfer audio tracks because my older CD was an 8x TEAC drive, which
won't work transferring audio tracks. My new CD is an ACER 50x. On boot up,
the CD-recorder will be changed to "WORM".

Hope some of this helps.

Actually I don't know nothing about DOS/Windog support under OS/2. I got a
Solo 1 PCI and I sought the version 1.7 of the drivers. It's a zip file
named OS2ENSL17.ZIP, you sure will find the 1.4 version on

I don't remember where I found the 1.7 version, surely NOT on ESS site

A few questions first.

When you boot, if you enter the Adaptec BIOS setup
(some magic key cmobination that gets shown on the
screen during boot) does it show the drive OK?

Since you have the scanner and Jazz working OK, then
you should be OK regarding the SCSI drivers.

Do you have os2cdrom.dmd in your comfig.sys? If so,
try it with the /V option (default is /Q), and watch
during boot up, it should show a copyright message and
a list of the CD devices it detects (manufaturer and
device identifier).

Do you have any other OSes on the machine? If you
do, are they able to see the drive?

Otherwise, as a previous poster, check the termination
is correct.

Paul

Yep.

It does already.

Win98. Same story. The drive is visible, but error messages pop up.
BTW, cdrecord -inq complains this way:

Subj: Netscape/Win version locks VDM session

From: rgibson@ix.netcom.com (Ron Gibson)

Well I finally found a version of Netscape/W31 that will run on my
system. Previously, every version had some sort of strange problem.

This is version 4.08 for W31, stand alone.

But there is still a problem. It opens, displays pages fine but after
I close it the WIN-OS/2 session freezes requiring me to kill it with
WatchCat. I'm trying to get some Win Plugins to work. Anybody got any
suggestions?

BTW, Warp 3, FP 40, Java RT 1.18, GRADD .8 drivers.

Subj: video conferencing

From: John Muller <mullerj@bigdog.fred.net>

Hello, does anyone know if there is video conferencing software
available for OS/2. Just purchased Hauppauge WinTV card and it
indicates it can be used to video conference. The card is working well
under OS/2. If I try to resize the TV window under Win98, the whole
system locks up! My video card is a Savage4 PCI, using the sdd/2 beta 9
drivers! Thanks in advance:-)

Unfortunately, the CUCME version for Warp was pulled by
the developer. It used the Hauppauge Wincast/TV card
and worked AFAIK.

There is work being done on WarpSeeMe whcih is
a CUCME equivalent.

URL http://www.warpseeme.com/

I have no idea how far along they are. The last
update on the page is Nov 4 1999.

I'd recommend an ISA soundcard based on a Crystal 4236/4237 chipset. I can't
recommend a specific brand ; I use a demo card from Crystal, so I can't rate
any of the soundcard brands that use their chipsets. I also have an SB16 in
another system, which was purchased many years ago and still works, but its
OS/2 drivers have flaws.

I don't know how it will work with your hardware, but the Warp
"Bonus Pack" includes IBM's "Person to Person" package that has a
video conferencing module. It's probably not compatible with the
popular Windows software, but if you only need to connect OS/2
machines it may fit the bill.

Subj: Yamaha YMF724 Patch program

From: lsunley@mb.sympatico.ca (Lorne Sunley)

Once again Daniela Engert has done GOOD things
for OS/2 users.

She has release a patch program for the Yamaha YMF724
audio chip device drivers that allows you to use the
driver with a range of Yamha YMF724 compatible
audio chips.

I have one of the cards that was not supported by the
IBM driver (supports only YMF724D chips

URL ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/os2ddpak/pciymf.exe

I tried the patch program and now the YMF724F chipset
based card works properly.

You can obtain the program from http://hobbes.nmsu.edu
the file name is patchymf.zip and is currently in the incoming
directory.

From the file documentation

----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------
		      Daniela's YMF724 patch utility

The current driver for the Yamaha WaveForce 192 sound board supplied
by IBM
supports the YMF724D chip only. This patch utility modifies the driver
to
accept other compatible chips instead of the YMF724D. These are

 PCI vendor ID: 1073h (Yamaha)
 PCI device IDs:

 YMF724D (DS-1) 0004h
 YMF724F (DS-1) 000Dh
 YMF740C (DS-1L) 000Ch
 YMF744B (DS-1S) 0010h
 YMF754 (DS-1E) 0012h

----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

AND there is also a patched driver set for the ESS Maestro-2
drivers that will support the Maestro-2E chipset cards.

Thankyou Daniela
