Subj: New version of MAME for OS/2 is available

From: Marty <mamodeo@stny.rr.com>

A new release of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) for OS/2 is
available. MAME runs over 1200 classic and some not so classic arcade
games from the comfort of your OS/2 desktop.

The current OS/2 version is .35 beta 11 (final). This replaces the
previous "prerelease" version and fixes just about every bug I knew about
(and hopefully many I didn't know about).

For more information and to download the latest version, visit
http://emuos2.davesvgc.com. There is a Pentium optimized as well as a 486
optimized version available.

Enjoy!

____________________________________________________________

Six Internet Seminars At Warp Expo West

These six Internet seminars have been carefully scheduled so none are
at the same time. If your interest, your job or your business revolves
around the Internet, you'll get the knowledge you need at Warp Expo
West.

           Web Server Performance and Scalability

Presented by Robert Chapman, Institute of Advanced Development
Strategies and SCOUG Member.

Mr. Chapman will lecture on intranet and internet response times, file
I/O bottlenecks, communication bottlenecks, operating system
constraints, platform issues and the use of programs, Active Server
Pages and Dynamic HTML and the effect they have on performance, and the
new Application Server architectures and their current and future
ramifications. Be prepared with your own questions about your current
or planned Internet servers, because Mr. Chapman will take questions
from the floor.

             Quick Start for Netscape Composer

Presented by Virginia R. Hetrick, Ph.D., Senior Consultant for CIBER
Custom Solutions Group and SCOUG Member.

Dr. Hetrick will demonstrate how to design award-winning web pages
using the Composer portion of Netscape Communicator, including all of
its tools and capabilities, the tricks that add "the look" to your
pages, how to properly organize your page information for maximum
impact, color selection, designing for the multiple resolutions that
visitors may use, layout styles, and headlining. Bring printouts of
your favorite web pages and learn how their look and impact can be
further improved.

Technology Overview: Why XML Is Important

Presented by Bill Schindler, Editor In Chief of Extended Attributes,
the award-winning OS/2 magazine published by POSSI.

Mr. Schindler will present the reasons that XML is important to web
businesses, web designers and web users, the history of web languages,
the relationship between XML and the alternatives, the purpose of XML in
web page design, and the business and casual considerations that must be
analyzed when deciding on its usage. All persons who manage or design
web pages should attend this seminar.

                   Managing Your Website

Presented by Virginia R. Hetrick, Ph.D., Senior Consultant for CIBER
Custom Solutions Group and SCOUG Member.

Dr. Hetrick's background in managing web sites for UCLA and other
organizations has led to a successful overall strategy for designing and
running any web site, from avoiding the "web wall" to planning your
expansion, handling traffic, tracking usage, what to look for when
analyzing server logs, reorganizing the web site, budgeting the
resources, and handling each of the certain problems as they occur. Web
site administrators and future administrators need the training and
insights included in this lecture.

               Internet Communication Methods

Presented by Dave Watson, SCOUG Member and Internet SIG Leader.

Mr. Watson will cover the full complement of Internet communication
methods, from traditional asynchronous protocols to live interactive
sessions, email, mail lists, newsgroups, Internet relay chat, instant
messaging, CUSeeMe, sending to many individuals simultaneously, the
programs which supply these functionalities, the current OS/2 resources,
the importance these capabilities will have in our everyday lives as
bandwidth and processing power increase, and a changed future as
connectivity becomes truly universal. Most web users have heard of
these capabilities but are unaware of many of the business and personal
uses, and this presentation will give all attendees the major new
insights into how these technologies are just beginning to affect our
lives and our pocketbooks.

               An Introduction to XML Basics

Presented by Bill Schindler, Editor In Chief of Extended Attributes,
the award-winning OS/2 magazine published by POSSI.

Mr. Schindler will present a somewhat technical introduction to XML
(eXtensible Markup Language), including how XML is different from HTML,
how to create a well-formed XML document, parsing and validating an XML
document, creating your own "tags", using DTDs, vector graphics, data
transformations, fast XML design, and design considerations. XML is the
new future language of the web and those who control web sites need this
information to stay ahead of the competition.

You'll learn a _lot_ about the Internet when you attend Warp Expo

Subj: WiseAlert Server to debut at WarpExpo West

From: "Kim Cheung" <kimwaicSpamGoToGarbage@deltanet.com>

Serenity Systems International, with its development
partner, TouchVoice Incorporated, is announcing WiseAlert
Server. This product surpasses other alert servers in
functionality and messaging capabilities. It is targeted at
mission critical application ISVs and users, as well as
consultants and service providers supporting mission
critical applications.

WiseAlert Server monitors mission critical applications,
systems, and components running in a TCP/IP environment,
including Windows, OS/2, Linux, Unix, AS/400, RS/6000 -AIX,
and MVS. When a failure is reported, a text message and
action code are sent to the user, and possible corrective
actions can be taken. WiseAlert can accept error messages
and can query systems to determine if the system is
operating properly. When failures are reported, WiseAlert
can spring into action by contacting authorized personnel
and even executing corrective actions.

These messages can be network messages, e.mail, fax
including broadcast fax capability, calling designated
parties, providing voice prompts and accepting responses
for execution. For example, WiseAlert can call a user and
request a PIN. On receiving the correct PIN, WiseAlert can
use voice prompts to inform the user of the error condition
and can provide possible corrective actions. For example,
"... is reporting a SYS3175 access violation. Press 1 to
reboot this system, press 2 to set off the systems audio
alarm", or blinking lights, or some indicator of which
machine is failing, and so forth.

WiseAlert Server may be provided completely as a service,
or sold as product with appropriate installation and
customization services. For more information, contact
Serenity Systems as Info@Serenity-Systems.com, or call Bob
St.John at 972 966-8072, ext 101, in US call 888 299-6483,
ext 101.

Subj: 4 channel partner programs to help with your bottom line

From: "Kim Cheung" <kimwaicSpamGoToGarbage@deltanet.com>

At WarpExpo West, you will be able to examine the 4 major new products from
the Serenity System's Int'l to help your business combat the ever-shrinking
profit margin:

(1) WiseManager - Network Computing at its best. 64,000 stations as easy as
a few.

(2) WiseTalker/DB Server - connect your customer's database to the telephone
system. Great for e-Business activities such as credit card verification.
Scales from 4 to 2000 phone lines.

(3) WiseAlert Server - Why sit in that computer room baby-sitting all those
mission-critical computers? Go ahead - head for the beach. If a failure
occurs, WiseAlert Server will call you, page you, fax you, or even send an
email to your Palm Pilot - telling you what the failure is. Pick up the
cellphone and authorize WiseAlert to reboot the machine for you. Relax.
Life is too short.

(4) BASS - Building Automation and Security Service. The name tells it all.
An alarm tripped? Get on the Internet and take a bird's eye view of
what's going on. Turn-on devices, call for help. What a way to generate
service dollars.

From: Stephen Eickhoff <"operagost"@e-mail.com (remove the - )>

We have completed playtesting on only a single game at operagost.com, but it's
a good one! Galactic Trader is an old-school VT-100 based strategy game where
the player must use his cunning to make a profit while fighting off the
various interstellar rabble-rousers. The player may also opt to become an
officer in the overwhelmed Galactic Police, but I don't recommend this
difficult career path for new players. Galactic Trader requires only a VT100
emulator to play. The built-in TELNETPM works fine, and I have a short list of
others which I have tested on the home page.

While Galactic Trader is hosted on a machine running OpenVMS, the web site and
firewall are 100% OS/2. In fact, I plan to add a DikuMUD hosted on OS/2 as
well. Because it requires an account, you must register a username and an
e-mail address to play Galactic Trader. However, this information will be kept
confidential, and is of little use to spammers anyway since I'm not asking for
any demographic information.

Screen shots and information are at http://www.operagost.com.

____________________________________________________________

Connect OS/2 And Linux At Warp Expo West !!

You'll see OS/2 and Linux running seamlessly together, connected on
the same network and using each other's files when you join us at Warp
Expo West.

When you need to add to your network and don't want to dedicate an
entire OS/2 machine, Linux can come in handy. "It's a decent file and
printer server for OS/2 and other desktop systems," says Hugh Daschbach,
one of the two OS/2-Linux lecturers, "and it provides a rock solid
server platform for mail, news, or web service."

In this extensive seminar you'll be shown how to install Linux as a
second operating system on an OS/2 machine, how to access HPFS
partitions with Linux and the new HPFS functionality expected in Linux
2.4, running Samba to provide LAN Manager networking services for file
and printer sharing, accessing Linux files from the OS/2 client, using
Linux as the server, the Linux configuration screens for setting up your
networking capabilities, disk partitioning considerations when using
Linux and Linux with OS/2, dual booting with LILO, implementing the X
Window system, and the X Window software packages available.

Hugh Daschbach and Michael Elliott are both seasoned OS/2 users, and
both are also members of the Unix Users Association of Southern
California. Together they will showcase the methods involved in
combining these two very different operating systems into one robust
network.

Daschbach is a software engineer at Cisco Systems, and Elliott
develops on JavaOS at Sun Microsystems. Their combined knowledge will
enhance any network and will add functionality to your future networks.

You _will_ learn how to connect these two platforms when you attend
