I did post the script earlier, but it won't help your
download speed problems. It is used to send the
mp3 stream to the Z player.

Check your gain settings. Launching the mixer resets them but the system
default might be set too high.

Subj: New generic WIN/OS2 driver and maybe DOS in the future!

From: Roderick Klein <rwklein@wxs.nl>

Well the project has been going for a while and now there is a public
release of the generic WIN-OS/2 audio driver for OS/2. We told almost
nobody until we had something nice. The driver supports WAVE IN and
WAVE OUT. It should work with Warp 3 and 4, if you have no WIN-OS/2
support this should be your rescue! It has not been tested with a
very big amount of sound cards but it should work with any card that
has an OS/2 PDD driver (native OS/2 support!, so only sound in OS/2
and not in MDOS or WIN-OS/2). One of the cards that has this, for
instance, is the aureal card.

At this moment MIDI out is being worked on and MIDI IN will be looked
at. MIDI out is working a bit and sometime in the first month of 2000
a release with MIDI MAY come. When WIN-OS/2 functions correctly
software SB16 emulation will be looked at. It's just a theory that
this will work, but for more info, see the site!

The home page of the project is:

  http://home.wxs.nl/~rwklein/index.htm

Here the first public version can be downloaded. Please don't spread
this version so that the Internet won't be filled up with old
versions. When it can be spread, we (John and Roderick) will tell
when it can be done.

As far as I know, there aren't any gain controls for this chip set. Besides,
setting the gain too high would result in distorted, crackly sounds. There
seems to be a problem with the initialization. I guess that's why they say
there's no support for Win-OS/2. ;)

I've had (for testing) a Hauppauge Web-cam and the drivers from
Abbotsbury running. It was only a short test, but I've got the camera
working with the drivers. Just plug and play. When I remember

enhanced since.

I am planning to buy a drive by which I can record on a CD.

I am using Warp 4.

Is it true that one must have a SCSI CD-R drive for this? I thought I'd
seen some software and drivers that would work with EIDE.

The CD Recorder software by RSJ URL http://www.rsj.de will
work with both EIDE and SCSI CD-R units.

The CDRECORD freeware (port from Unix) will only work
with SCSI drives. The URL for this software is
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Sector/5785/cdrecord/cdrecordma
in.htm

AFAIK the SCSI solution is better for burning CD's as the
CPU is less burdened by the SCSI controllers and
drivers. This is especially noticable when the the data
being written to CD-R is on an IDE hard drive.

I use a SCSI based CD-R. A SCSI card is fairly
inexpensive (around 90.00 CDN$ for a Tekram DC-390
SCSI 2 card, or 150.00 CDN$ for a Tekram DC-390F
fast wide SCSI card).

Aopen AW320 is a PCI card and may be configured either for memory mapped I/O
or port I/O. Mine was configured for memory mapped I/O
with the base memory address FFBE9000.

Regardless of theoretically possible port I/O, lbcsmix100.zip isn't designed
for PCI sound cards.

Plan to buy an SCSI CD-R drive is a good idea! There are software
for OS/2 that will allow you to record CD. Of course, some of them
are expensive, other - free :-)

I use RSJ CD-Writer (http://www.rsj.de) - it's enough for my needs
but expensive though.

They are a maximum of four hex digits, because the I/O bus has only 16
address lines. The address he was trying to enter sounds like a "memory
mapped" address, where the adapter's I/O ports are actually mapped into
a RAM address range up near the 4 GB range. This is OK until you get a
system that has a full 4 GB of RAM.... <grin>

The necessary accommodations for the new directory structure of 4.x are not
well documented.

Try placing the "Shock.exe" and "Flash.exe" self extracting files into the
<C:\Netscape\Program\Win16> subdirectory, (which should have a <plugins>
subdirectory itself, totally separate from the <plugins> subdirectory of
<C:\Netscape\Program>.

Then run the two newley placed plugins, which should launch win 3.1's
install
wizard.

Now, Launch Netscape, and check "About Plugins"

Voila !!!!

I was a bit less fortunate than you, Jordan - but not by much! Win-OS/2
displays a winsheld fault every time a sound wants to play, but after
dismissing the window (choosing "ignore,") the sound plays! I'm thinking
it's not so much the driver as it is I may not have cleaned everything up

From: dontspamrazorblade@uswest.net

Is anyone doing video capture with an AGP Elsa Gloria Synergy? When I do
video capture without audio, it reports a frame rate of 20 fps, but when I
play it back, the video goes too fast. It's as though it actually captured
at about 15 fps, but is playing back at 20. When I capture with audio, the
audio and video are not at all in sync on playback. Again, the video is
too fast, but the audio plays back correctly. (I have Soundblaster AWE 32
for sound) Has anyone else encountered these problems?

I attended Jerry Rash's multimedia presentation at Warp Expo West, and
he used a PCI Gloria Synergy and AWE 32 and got great results with video
capture. Is anyone else out there using the Gloria Synergy for video
capture?

You need to know the drive interface type. All CD-ROM drives conform to
one of a few interfaces, I think all of which have OS/2 drivers.

If it's 4x speed or faster, it's almost certainly an IDE/ATAPI drive
(unless it's SCSI, of course, in which case it shouldn't need a separate
driver?). But in this case, OS/2 should have detected this and installed
the correct driver (IBMIDECD.FLT) already.

If it's slower than 4x, it probably uses a proprietary interface of which
three were common: 'Panasonic', 'Mitsumi', or 'Sony'. I know the
'Panasonic' type has an OS/2 driver (SBCD2.ADD) included in Warp 3. I
have no experience with the other types, but I'd expect there are drivers
for them as well.

Panasonic-interface drives are frequently identified as Creative Labs or
Matsushita-Kotobuki drives. Check the drive for a model number, if you
can. If it is one of these, choose "Panasonic CR-572" (I think) from
Selective Install.

Actually, if OS/2 can recognize it, the correct driver should already be
selected when you look at the CD-ROM box under Selective Install...

Hello Alex,

Thank you for your suggestion and information.
I will try to do that during this coming holiday.
For my soundcard it is manufactured by Analog Devices. I do not have its
OS/2 driver.
I have visit IBM and Analog Devices web site to look for the driver but
I am
not sure I can find it.
I guess when i install OS/2 warp 3.0 I did miss some information. I may
try again
to install the sound card as well as cdrom drive.

Joseph Chia A.T.

Happy new millennium and new year.

From: rcpj@panix.com (Pierre Jelenc)

I'm having trouble getting CDRecord/2 with the Audio-CD-Creator to work.

CDRecord reports accurately the drive info:

cdrecord dev=0,3,0 -inq
Cdrecord release 1.8a31 Copyright (C) 1995-1999 Jrg Schilling
scsidev: '0,3,0'
scsibus: 0 target: 3 lun: 0
Using libscg version 'schily-0.1'
Device type : Removable CD-ROM
Version : 2
Response Format: 2
Capabilities : SYNC
Vendor_info : 'YAMAHA '
Identifikation : 'CRW6416S '
Revision : '1.0b'
Device seems to be: Generic mmc CD-RW.

Audio-CD-Creator is set with the parameters -dummy -speed=4 dev=0,3,0

When started, it seems to go through the motions for the first track (out
of 10), then aborts with two vio sessions, both owned by CDRecord. I copy
below the content of those two windows, as well as the entire log file.

Any idea what goes wrong?

I have no idea, but I can confirm the problem. It's the same here with a
TEAC CDR-55S. Using cdrecord via the commandline works without problems.
Please send a bug report to Chris Wohlgemuth, the author of
Audio-CD-Creator.

I use a CS4280 PCI card and a mixer called "lbmix001.zip" works a treat.

It's available on hobbes. Thats where I got my copy from.

I installed it with an Aureal 8820 card and it works as advertised.
RealPlayer 5.0 seems to work just fine. Even the sound recorder in
Win-OS2 works. A very impressive technical achievement!

I'm having a problem with it. After installing, I get a Winshield
error when launching a WinOS/2 session. Clicking on "ignore" allows
WinOS/2 to load, and I do get sound. However, my system then gets
"stuck" when I attempt to exit WinOS/2 - forcing a re-boot.

Could you explain in details how you do it? I have absolutely no
experience with burners, and was hoping that Audio-CD-Creator would
my problems.

Actually, he seems to have anticipated me. There's a new version 0.35
dated 10.12.1999 (Dec. 10 1999) which seems to have fixed it, at least in
dummy write. I'll go ahead and do a real burn shortly.

I'm having even more basic problems. Cdrecord works fine. I'm able to
burn disks with no problem. Audio-CD-Creator, however, doesn't start
any processes for me at all - no vio windows, no messages, nothing.
However, it seems to think that it is running. When I go to start it
again, I get a message saying that image creation or writing is going
on - which it is not. I can use PCCDrec ok, but the CD creator offers
more features and I'd like to use it. Any solutions?

Please could you report this as a bug using the mechanism outlined in
the README particularly outlining the specification of your system
A small number of users (3 to date) have reported this problem, but
only in vague detail. I have not been able to replicate this problem
on the development system, and I would like to fix it very soon! :)

John.

Which version do you have? The latest is 0.35 from 10 Dec 99. For me, it
has fixed all problems, at least for audio (I haven't tried data yet) on
both CDR and CDRW.

From: "Nick Saxon" <nospam_n.saxon@mindspring.com>

Hi all,

Crystal's cs4614-based PCI sound card Aopen AW320 works fine
with the latest Crystal drivers taken from
ftp://ftp.cirrus.com/pub/drivers/audio/os2/cwos2305.zip

The cs4614 does have a MPU 401 interface, but I can't see an appropriate port
with RMVIEW /IO. Crystal driver's readme doesn't mention MPU 401 at all.

Has anybody got it to work? I'm gonna try MIDI Station Sequencer, and
RTMIDI is a prerequisite.

I'll appreciate any help
Nick Saxon

I'm using 0.35. I'm thinking the problem could have something to do
with Object Desktop which I'm also using.

AFAIK, this card (I have it too) has no MPU support, or Wavetable MIDI for
that matter. Supposedly will be added at a later date...

Yes, I have seen this also. The problem is with one of the files that
the Windows Video runtime v1.1 (the program you install to get RealVideo
v5.0 to run) puts in the MDOS/WINOS2/SYSTEM directory. There are 30
some files and if you back these out the problem goes away but then the
video in RealPlayer 5.0 will not work, only the audio. I think it's one
of the .DRV files but I haven't had time to find out which one. I know
it's one you don't really need...BTW, you don't have to reboot to exit
WinOS2 if you have

SET KILLFEATUREENABLED=ON

in your config.sys you can terminate the WinOS2 thread by holding down
the Ctrl key while clicking the mouse pointer on the little index card
icon in WarpCenter and then highlighting the Sysinit thread for the
windows application in the drop down list.

Do you mean the card will have to be replaced by an advanced one?
Or is it just a matter of the driver update?

Please post your findings if you figure it out.

I don't run the WarpCenter on this system. Except for the Kill feature
you mention, I did not find it useful, and aside from this current
problem, I do not generally need a kill feature.
