Subj: MAMERUN beta 5: Frontend for OS/2

From: stefanj@gte.net (Jason Stefanovich)

I have just uploaded beta 5 of MAMERun to Hobbes:

  http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/

Final expected placement is:

  http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/emulator/

You can also find it at the MAMERun Homepage:

  http://home1.gte.net/stefanj/mamerun.htm

Whats New Beta 5:

* Changed the interface a bit to make it easier to read and fixed
some minor bugs
* Removed the tab stops from all objects except the Hotlist
* Updated the main menu and popup
* Added support for ROM and sample checking
* Fixed bug with alternate ROM dir. and duplicate names
* All ROMs in the alternate dir are now identified with the suffix
'[alt]'
* Fixed timing issues with some processes
* Added a 'Check for updates' button

What:

MAMERun is a FREEWARE PM front end for the DOS version of
MAME
(Multi. Arcade Machine Emulator). A front end is a program that
makes
it easier for the user to interface with his application, which
usually has a command line interface. MAME is a very popular
emulator
that allows you to run thousands of classic arcade games on your
PC
(if you own the ROMs). You can find the MAME homepage at:

  http://mame.retrogames.com/

The Official (and very good) OS/2 PM port of MAME was done by
Marty
Amodeo and is at:

  http://emuos2.vintagegaming.com/

Requirements:

OS/2
MAME for DOS (I used version .36 beta 12)
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU USE THIS VERSION SINCE THERE
IS A Y2K ISSUE WITH PRIOR VERSIONS!
DOS Support installed
RexxUtil
joystick device driver (for joystick support, download from hobbes
or DDPAK)
ROMs (DO NOT ASK ME FOR, OR WHERE TO GET ROMS!!)

Subj: Request for Beta Testers for Dragen FTP

From: cotroneo@stny.rr.com

Hello All:

Many years ago I authored an FTP client called SFTP.
It was a Visual Rexx product that I distributed as
freeware.

I have been working slowly for about three years
on a new ftp client. I call it Dragen FTP. "Drag" "En" for
"Drag" Enabled". Dragen consists of a C core that handles FTP
and a visual rexx front end (VisPro). Dragen is much more flexible
and powerful than sftp. I also believe that it has a unique
feature set that will offer a useful contribution to OS/2
computing. The core FTP module is about three years old and
very stable. The rexx interface is pretty clean. I still have
documentation and some polishing to do.

I intend to distribute the product as as shareware, or
"trustware."

There are two versions that I need to test. The shareware
implementation is fully enabled, but will involve a fairly
painless user permission request to my FTP server. The pay
version doesn't require this.

Anyhow, I am about to the point of getting it out for some
imited testing. I need some people to check out both
versions and give me their thoughts. I would offer a license
in consideration for your assistance.

As I mentioned above, this will be a limited test period, since
I have been using the product myself for about six months. So,
I am looking for a few good people to help.

If you would like to apply to be a Dragen FTP tester. Please,
send email to me at:

cotroneo@stny.rr.com

Please include a brief statement about your experience with os/2:

1) How long you have been using os/2 (I would like to get a mix of
experience).

2) How often you use FTP and the products you currently use for FTP.

3) Are you connected with any commercial or shareware software
businesses or enterprises?

Please note that application does not guarantee acceptance.

That's about it. Thanks.

First, Hursley's FTP site has some updates for JDK v1.1.8 (dated Dec 4,
1999). Try ftp://ftp.hursley.ibm.com/pub/java/fixes/os2/11/118.

Secondly, if you visit Software Choice, there is a Security Extensions
package (SECMA.ZIP) for Java 1.1.8 which provides Java 2.0 style security and
authentication. This should hopefully allow you to connect using the security
features you require.

    Best of luck!

The same fixes are now available at
ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/software/java/fixes/os2/11/118/ as well, though
it took them about a week to show up for download.

Subj: wheel mouse for OS2

From: Ariel <arnews@shore.net>

Anyone know of drivers or programs, to allow me to use a wheel mouse with
os2?

It has two wheels, and 3 buttons.

It's a CompUSA PS/2 mouse, I don't know what protocol it uses.

Subj: Re: wheel mouse for OS2

From: maxikins@os2bbs.com (Mark Klebanoff)

IBM makes a scrollmouse driver. It works with the Micro$oft mouse,
Logitech Mouse+ and Trackball Marble+, and probably others too. Who
knows it it will work with that contraption, but it's worth a try.
You can get it at the device driver page of IBM- do a dejanews search
for scroll mouse and OS/2 and you'll find the url.
