Clearlook(tm) Word Processor from Sundial Systems
Installation Notes (INSTALL.TXT) for the Clearlook 1.71 Update Kit
    September 1996

The Clearlook 1.71 Update Kit is designed to update an installed copy
    of Clearlook 1.1, 1.5, or 1.7 to Version 1.71.

This file only contains information about installation of the Update
Kit. You should also consult the Release Notes (README.TXT) for more
information about Clearlook 1.71 before you install the update.

    Update Kit Flavors

Note that the Update Kit comes in three distinct flavors, with and
without the User's Guide and Supplement files in Clearlook format.
(These files are new to Clearlook 1.7 and not included in earlier
versions -- for more information, see the Release Notes -- but have
not changed between Clearlook 1.7 and 1.71.) The kit without these
additional files is smaller (and thus faster to download electronically).
The third flavor is an "express" kit that can ONLY be used to update
    a Clearlook 1.7 installation to 1.71.

If you are trying to identify one kit from another, the typical names
under which the kits are found are:

        CLUP171.ZIP Lite Update Kit
CLUP171F.ZIP Full Update Kit (with documentation files)
CLUP171X.ZIP Express Update Kit (for 1.7 installations)

Another way to tell the kits apart is that the full kit contains
the DOCS.TXT file (and other files) which the lite kit does not.
The express kit contains only a minimum number of files.

Should you desire to add the documentation files at a later time,
you can install the full kit over the lite kit or just install the
    "documentation" kit (CLDOC17.ZIP).

If you are trying to decide between the kits, we recommend you start
with the lite kit (CLUP171.ZIP) and add the documentation kit
(CLDOC17.ZIP) later if you want to take a look at these (rather large)
documents in their original form. On the other hand, if you have already
installed Clearlook 1.7, you only need the express kit (CLUP171X.ZIP).

Also note that the express kit can be used to update an installed copy
of the Clearlook 1.7 Working Model. However, in this case the README.TXT
file for the Working Model will be replaced by the README.TXT file for
the complete product. Since the README.TXT file for the Working Model
contains additional tutorial information, we suggest you rename the file
(or save a copy elsewhere) before installing the express kit over the
Working Model. Alternatively, you can simply install the Clearlook 1.71
Working Model over the Clearlook 1.7 Working Model.

    Installation Instructions

To install the update, just run the INSTALL program found in the same
directory (or on the same diskette) as this file. Then follow the
instructions which appear. You should fill in the Install To and
Create Directory fields with the drive and directory where your
original copy of Clearlook is installed.

Note that the installation program does not check for a previously
installed copy. If you install the update in a different location,
you will be able to use it, but spell checking will not work since
the necessary files (from the BIN\LNG directory) are not included in
the update kit. If you install the full or lite updates and do not
have a valid Clearlook license, the update kit will act the same as
the Clearlook Working Model except that spell checking will not be
available. The express kit, on the other hand, will not function
properly unless it is installed over a previous copy.

Of Interest to Express Kit Users

The express kit only updates the Clearlook program files and Release
Notes. It does not include examples or templates -- thus no documents
(except README.TXT and README.CTX) are changed by its installation.
It also does not make any updates to the various Workplace Shell objects
that represent the Clearlook programs or files.

    Of Interest to Beta Users

If you are using a Beta copy of an earlier Clearlook, you may wish
to install the update kit separately (or over a non-Beta copy). While
all of your Clearlook files are compatible with Version 1.71, not all
features and functions available in earlier Beta versions are
    necessarily supported in Version 1.71.
