1. General troubleshooting solutions

1-1. If a Windows shared printer cannot be monitored, check the following:

*Make sure that the printer driver is installed on the computer
that is hosting the Windows shared printer and that, in the printer
driver, the printer is set to be shared. Also make sure that "Allow
monitoring of shared printers" is selected in the Monitoring
	 Preferences dialog box.

*(Windows Me/98/95) On the server, double-click the Network icon in
Control Panel and make sure that the "File and printer sharing for
Microsoft Networks" component is installed. Then, on the server AND
clients, make sure that the "IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol" or the
	 "TCP/IP Protocol" is installed.

*On the server and clients, make sure that Printer Interface version
4.xxx or later is installed. To confirm the version of Printer
Interface, open the EPSON Status Monitor 3 dialog box and click the
icon on the left side of the EPSON Status Monitor 3 title bar. Select
"About..." from the menu and confirm the version in the "Aboutc"
	 message box that appears.

1-2. Limitation when monitoring network printers in a Windows 95 environment

Windows Socket 2 must be installed. Windows Socket 2 is available from
Microsoft Corporation.

1-3. If network printers cannot be monitored after returning from sleep mode in a Windows 95 environment, do the following:

Close the printer driver and EPSON Status Monitor 3, then restart the Status Monitor. For information on accessing the Status Monitor, see your printer's Reference Guide.

2. Solutions for Windows XP/2000/NT environment

2-1. When uninstalling EPSON Status Monitor 3 from a multi-user Windows
XP/2000/NT environment, remove the shortcut icon from all clients before
uninstalling. You can remove the icon by clearing the Shortcut Icon check
box in the Monitoring Preferences dialog box.

3. Solutions for network printers

3-1. To monitor a NetWare printer, connect only one print server to each
queue. For directions, see the Administrator's Guide for the printer.

3-2. You cannot monitor a NetWare queue printer beyond the IPX router
because the setting for IPX hops is 0.

3-3. When monitoring NetWare printers, a Novell Client that corresponds
to your operating system must be used. Operation is confirmed for the
versions below.

*For Windows 98/95/Me: Novell Client 3.32 for Windows 95/98
*For Windows XP/2000/NT 4.0: Novell Client 4.83+SP1 for Windows NT/2000/XP

3-4. Limitation when monitoring NetWare printers

This product supports NetWare printers configured by a queue-based printing
system such as Bindery or NDS. You cannot monitor NDPS (Novell Distributed
Print Services) printers.

4. Job Management Function

4-1. Connections that support the Job Management function

*EpsonNet Direct Print TCP/IP connections in Windows XP/Me/98/95/
	 2000/NT 4.0.
*LPR connections in Windows XP/2000/NT 4.0.
*Standard TCP/IP connections in Windows XP/2000.
*Shared Windows 2000/NT 4.0 LPR connections and shared Windows 2000
	 Standard TCP/IP connections with Windows XP/Me/98/95/2000/NT 4.0
	 clients.
Note that if the user account used to log on to a client is
different from the user account used to connect to the server,
the Job Management function is not available.

Shared Windows XP LPR connections and shared Windows XP Standard
TCP/IP connections with Windows clients do not support the Job
	Management function.

4-2. NetWare connections do not support the Job Management function.

4-3. "Monitor the printing status" must be selected on the printer driver's
Utility tab in order to use the "Notify when printing completed" function.

On condition that the client logon user is different from the connecting
user for the server, the Job Management function is not available.
