Introduction
============
The LPR Port Utility for Microsoft Windows 98/95 is a software for printing 
from Windows 98/95 to printers in a TCP/IP network. This README.TXT contains 
the latest information concerning this software. Please review this before 
using the software.

Systems Requirements
====================
This software operates in the following systems and operating environments.

 - OS              Microsoft Windows 98
                   Microsoft Windows 95

* This software is compatible only within environments and network boards 
  supplied with this  software. This software cannot print to printers or 
  network boards of other companies.
* This software uses TCP/IP network protocol for the network protocol 
  between the computer and printer. Additionally, the software uses LPD for 
  the print application.

Using LPR Port Utility
======================

The first time you use the LPR Port Utility perform the following procedures:
   "1. Installation" and "2. Printer Port Settings"

1. Installation
   To install the LPR Port Utility activate the SETUP.EXE file.

2. Printer Port Settings
   To print to a printer in a TCP/IP network, perform the following 
   procedure:

   1. To install the printer driver, refer to the reference materials 
      supplied with the printer and install the printer driver. (If the 
      screen for selecting how the printer is attached to your computer 
      displays, select Local Printer.  If the screen for selecting a printer 
      port displays, select LPT1.)
   2. From the Start menu select Settings, and then Printers.
   3. Right click the printer icon of the printer driver installed in step 1 
      and select Properties.
   4. Click the Details tab, and then click the Spool Settings button.
   5. Select "Spool print jobs so program finishes printing faster", and 
      then click the OK button.
   6. Click the Add Port button.
   7. Select Other, and then in the "Click the type of port you want to add"
      list, select CANON LPR Port and click OK.
   8. Enter the host name or IP address of the printer in Host Name or IP 
      Address.
   9. Enter a print queue name(remote printer name) in Printer Name, and 
      then click OK. The print queue names you can use differ depending on 
      the printer and network board, for more information refer to the 
      reference materials supplied with the printer and/or network board.
   10.Click the OK button

3. Deleting the LPR Port Utility
   When deleting the LPR Port Utility, perform the following procedure:

   1. In the Details sheet in the printer properties dialog box, select a 
      port other than LPR Port in "Print to the following port".  (For an 
      LPR Port, the display will show something similar to "172.20.88.125@LP 
      (Canon LPR Port)".)
   2. Install the CD-ROM used when installing the LPR Port Utility and 
      activate UNINSTLP.EXE.

Important Release Notes
=======================
When a print job using the LPR Port Utility is in progress, if you do a soft 
reset of the printer, cancel the job. To cancel a print job, double-click 
the print icon in the right side of the task bar, select the document 
currently printing, and then from the Document menu select Cancel Printing.

Regarding the printer spool settings, note the followings: 
(To configure the printer spool settings, in the printer properties dialog 
box, click the Details tab, and click the Spool Settings... button.)

  (1) The LPR Port Utility sends data to the printer after spooling all 
      print data even if you select either "All data" or "1 page".

  (2) You must select "spool."
      The LPR Port Utility fails to send data if you select "direct".

When the hard disk is full in which a print document spool file is being 
created, the procedure cannot be carried out and an error message appears.
