Anagrams see and hear (Talking disk)
Written specifically for visually
handicapped students but would be of
interest also to students with normal
vision. The student has to supply a
word, given a clue and an anagram. All
the characters on the screen are
double height and everything appearing
on the screen is reinforced by the
computer's voice.

Find and speak (Talking disk)
A simple program aimed at virtually
non-readers. 12 words appear at the
top of the screen in random order. The
student is presented with the words of
a one line sentence one at a time.
Each word has to be found in the upper
screen display. When the sentence has
been completed the computer's voice
will read it out if the S key is
pressed.

Keep off the grass etc. (Talking disk)
Shows the student a series of signs
(e.g. KEEP OFF THE GRASS) to read
aloud after which he can, at the touch
of a key, get the computer to read the
sign. Suggested by Alan Nevitt of
Buckley, Clwyd.

Learn the alphabet (Talking disk)
The student is presented with the
alphabet as a rhyming chant which
makes it easier to recall.

Play with SAY and Play with SPEAK
(Talking disk)
The SPEECH! disk provides two
facilities, *SAY and *SPEAK. *SAY will
have a go at saying text typed in
normal English. It doesn't always get
the pronunciation right. *SPEAK reads
only words built up using the list of
phonemes supplied with the SPEECH!
disk. For example if you wanted the
computer to say "How fast would you
like the computer to read?" you would
*SPEAK the string "/haw faest wuhd yux
liyk dh/u kompyuxt/u tux reed?" Play
with SAY is a convenient way of
finding out how well the computer can
read normal English and Play with
SPEAK is a convenient way of getting
used to writing in phonemes.

Read a passage (Talking disk)
The student is helped to read a story
which appears on the screen a phrase
at a time, by getting the computer to
read out each phrase as often as
desired.

Second version of TALK (Talking disk)
The student chooses from four
passages. The computer speaks the
passage and displays it on the screen
so the student knows what it is about
and then repeats, a phrase at a time,
with a randomly selected word missing
on the screen from each phrase. The
student has to provide the missing
words. Distinction is made between an
outright wrong answer and a near miss.
The computer tells the student when he
has started a word with a lower case
letter which should have been a
capital. This version incorporates
several suggestions made by Alan
Nevitt of Buckley, Clwyd. The first
version of TALK has now been removed
from the disk to make way for other
programs.

Social sight words (Talking disk)
The student has to identify which of
four words or phrases appearing on the
screen is the one spoken by the
computer's voice.
