
DESCRIPTION OF FEATURES SUPPORTED BY THE COMPAQ INTERCONNECT
SWITCH MANAGEMENT AND DOCUMENTATION INSTALLATION ON LINUX
-------------------------------------------------------------

The following features are supported by the Compaq Interconnect
Switch Management Utilities and Documentation installation 

1. Documentation
2. Help
3. Tools
4. SNMP Mibs
5. Configuration Templates

Each of these features can be selectively installed or
uninstalled as desired.

The default installation directory for each feature is
/usr/local/Compaq/Interconnect_Switch/

The user has a choice of selecting a different path during installation
in the Destination Path select screen during a fresh install of
this package.

We will refer this base directory as INSTALLDIR throughout this
Readme.

Also, the terms "Target Machine" and "Deployment machine" will
be used inter-changeably throughout this Readme.

DOCUMENTATION
-------------

The Documentation Package installs the Userguides for all the supported
switches. Currently, userguide will be installed for the
E-Class GbE switch.

HELP
----

The help feature installs this Readme file. The user should select the
Help Package during installation to be able to install this readme file.

	Target Path: INSTALLDIR/pGbE/Help


TOOLS
-----

The Tools feature consists of utilities through which the
user could communicate and configure the switch using SNMP.

The Tools feature installs the following files under
INSTALLDIR/bin

cpqswcfg
cpqpgbe

And installs the following file under INSTALLDIR/Help

cpqswcfg.txt

cpqswcfg.txt is the file which talks the various options
that can be used with the cpqswcfg utility.

cpqswcfg is the Linux executable which provides a
front-end menu interface to the user, gets appropriate
configuration choices from the user and calls the
second-level script.

cpqpgbe is the second-level script which parses
the options passed to it, validates the commands accordingly
and then calls the next level utility to talk to the
switch using SNMP.

In the case of Linux, the set of utilities that
actually talk to the switch using SNMP are provided
by the Standard Linux installation CD. The names of
the packages are as follows.

For Redhat Linux installations, the dependencies are
on the following packages

ucd-snmp-utils
ucd-snmp

For SuSE Linux installations, the dependencies are
on the following packages

ucdsnmp

The Readme provided with the installation package
describes in more detail on the dependencies in the
section on Package dependencies.

cpqswcfg.txt explains in detail about the usage of
cpqswcfg utility

The SNMP Mibs Package installs the following SNMP Mibs

For more information on what each of these MIB's mean and a description,
please refer to Appendix E of the P-Class GbE User Guide. This user
guide will be installed on selection of the Documentation Feature.

CONFIGURATION TEMPLATES
-----------------------

The idea of Switch configuration template feature is to provide the user a
set of scripts which can be run with the Switch I.P Address as an argument,
talk to the switch and automatically configure the switch as per
a pre-defined environment.

The following scripts are installed as a part of this feature. Each of 
the scripts configures the switch to a pre-determined environment.

CfgTmpPC.pdf

	Target Path: INSTALLDIR/pGbE/config template scripts

The usage of these scripts is as follows

cpqpbcfr.sh -i <Switch I.P Address> -c <SNMP Community String>
cpqpbcfr1.sh -i <Switch I.P Address> -c <SNMP Community String>

The switch configuration that is generated after these scripts are
run can be compared with the tables provided in CfgTmpPC.pdf document
for verification purposes. 

The Configuration generated by running cpqpbcfr.sh corresponds to 
Switch A and the Configuration generated by running cpqpbcfr1.sh
corresponds to Switch B in the document.

     KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH P-Class GbE SWITCH FIRMWARE VERSION 1.1.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Resetting to factory defaults and saving IP settings option will change
	 the switch set up from DHCP to manual IP setting. If you are using
	 DHCP to establish your IP address, use the "Reboot & Load Factory
	 Default Configuration" option instead of "Reboot & Load Factory
	 Default Configuration Except IP Address."

2. Using the Remote Management Setup screen in the Telnet or Console 
	interface, Management VID (VLAN ID) cannot be changed when switch 
	is configured to get IP settings from DHCP. From the console or 
	telnet interface, you can put the IP mode in Manual, change the 
	Management VID, and then return to DHCP mode.
	Alternately, you can only change the Management VID in DHCP mode 
	from the Web interface.

3. When using cpqswcfg to configure the RS232 Console status, only option
	0, which translates to "Enable" is allowed as a choice. 

4. In the web based interface, under Advanced settings, attempting to set
	 the "AutoLogout" value pops up "Runtime Error" windows. However
	 the functionality is not affected.

5. Only "Permanent" unicast address filters can be created through the SNMP
	 interface.  Creating a "Delete on Reset" or "Delete on Timeout" 
	 filter is not supported via SNMP in the current release, although 
	 they can be created via the web and console interfaces. However, 
	 Deletion of any filter type can be done via SNMP.


6. There are no SNMP equivalents for items listed below.

	Trunk utilization
	From "Port Error Packets" (HTTP)
		ExDefer
		Late Coll
		Ex. Coll
		Single Coll
		Unicast Rx
		TX bytes
	Browse MAC address
	Switch history
	Dynamic group registration table

	port "type" and "VLAN name" in port configuration page.

	"Manufacturing date" 

	"backpressure"

	"Trunk load sharing algorithm"

	"telnet status" and "web status" (logins allowed)

	These can be set via the web or console interfaces if needed.


7. SNMP tables swL2IngrPortBwCtrlRefreshTable and Egress equivalent table
	 do not allow "read-create" and	hence no entries may be created


8. TFTP services do not work on the Web interface using Netscape 6.1.
       Java script messages are displayed and no file transfer occurs. Other browsers,
	such as Internet Explorer 5.5, work properly.


9. If you enter a list of Security IP addresses, web connections only work for the
	first 3 entries. Telnet connections work properly for all entries.


10. The default SNMP rwcommunity string is "private." Please change this on initial
	configuration of the switch if it does not meet your security needs. See the
	configuration chapters of the user guide for more information.
