                  ---------------------------------
                  Toshiba RESUME Device Driver for
                        QEMM-386 and 386MAX
                  ---------------------------------

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

To use RESUME when using a 386 memory manager, please read and follow
these instructions.

VRESUME supports these 80386 memory managers:

        - QEMM386.SYS (v5.11 or higher)

        - 386MAX.SYS (v4.07 or higher)

You do not need VRESUME if you are using Toshiba DOS 5.0 EMM386.EXE or
another 386/486-based Memory Manager which already supports the Resume
feature on Toshiba computers (such as Quarterdeck Expanded Memory Manager-386,
v6.0).

VRESUME and WRESUME.386 are not mutually exclusive. VRESUME is
intended for execution outside of Windows 3.x, and WRESUME.386 is intended
for execution under Windows 3.x in 386-enhanced mode (reference WRESUME.TXT).
You may load both drivers if you desire.

VRESUME.SYS INSTALLATION:

1. Place the Companion Diskette in floppy drive A: and copy
the VRESUME file to your DOS directory on the hard disk with the
   following command.

      COPY A:\VRESUME.SYS C:\DOS

If you desire, you may copy the VRESUME file to a different drive
   or directory.

2. Edit the standard CONFIG.SYS file (found in the root directory)
by adding the line shown below:

             DEVICE=C:\DOS\VRESUME.SYS

(If you typed another path in step 1 above, use that path here also.)

3. Save the modified CONFIG.SYS file, exit the editor, and reboot your
   computer from the hard disk.

The installation is now complete. Restarting your computer will
automatically cause the VRESUME driver to be loaded and initialized.

WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS:

If you are using your memory manager only for the purpose of running
device drivers and other memory-resident programs in the upper memory area
instead of conventional memory, please be aware of the following:

                               CAUTION !!

VRESUME depends on certain EMS support functions being
available in order to work properly. Configuring your
memory manager to partially or completely disable expanded
memory (EMS) support may cause VRESUME to fail.

If you find that VRESUME fails in this situation, you should change the
setup for your memory manager to specify at least some amount of expanded
memory to be provided--even if your programs do not require expanded memory.
This should allow VRESUME to operate properly.

The following examples show some parameters to avoid when configuring two
specific memory managers: On 386MAX, specifying EMS=0 is known to cause
VRESUME to fail. On QEMM-386, specifying NOEMS is known to cause VRESUME to
fail.

                               NOTE

The PopUp Window will not be available when VRESUME is loaded.
