1. Overview

This disk is a part of the ELSAvision software installation
pack and is used in conjunction with the ELSAvision CD for the
installation of the Windows driver software and applications.

Due to the production time of a CD-ROM, some latest drivers may not
be included on the CD. For this case, this startdisk offers an
easy way to software updates. This startdisk contains important
information and updates to ensure the installation of the actual
        software components.

Complete installation instructions can be found
in the manual. This is only a short reference!

ELSAvision has to be inserted into a PCI-slot that is capable of
running as a "PCI-BUSMASTER" (see documentation of your PC).

During the installation process some files are to be written to
        the WINDOWS\SYSTEM-directory. Installation in a computer-network
therefore requires write-permission for that directory.

2.1 Installation Windows 3.x

ELSAvision needs to run with a DCI-capable graphics
board (and its drivers) as well as Video for Windows 1.1d (or
newer). This may be be installed from the ELSAvision CD also.

You can install the ELSAvision Windows software and applications
with the program CDSETUP.EXE on the ELSAvision CD. For the
installation process this startdisk is required also.

Please insert the CD and the startdisk.
Start Windows, call in the "Program Manager" "File"/"Run ...",
enter the commandline "D:CDsetup" (or the appropiate path
if the CD is not located in drive "D:") and confirm with "OK".

CDsetup now asks for the path to the startdisk. Default it assumes
"A:". If neccessary, please edit the path to the diskette and press
        "OK".

CDsetup now offers a selection of software components to install. If
you are not sure which ones you need to install on your system, please
mark one item and press the "Help" button.

The button "First Steps" gives some additional help and guidelines
for the step-by-step installation, if required.

2.2 Installation Windows 95

ELSAvision needs to run with a DirectDraw-compatible graphics
board (and its drivers) as well as Microsoft DirectDraw.
This may be be installed from the ELSAvision CD also.

During the installation of ELSAvision you will be asked to insert
your Windows 95 CD, so please be sure to have it available.

On Windows 95 systems the install programm CDsetup may be started
automatically if you insert the CD into the drive. Be sure to have
the option enabled to allow the CD autorun feature.

You may install ELSAvision for Windows 95 as you do with Windows 3.x.

        ATTENTION:

The installation of ELSAvision for Windows 95 has been modified in
this version 1.50 in one important point: The board will no longer be
registered as media device, but as network device with drivers for
CAPI 2.0 and ACOTEC CAPI subsystem inclusively.

Especially the menu point "CAPI 2.0 installation/update" should be
performed at first. During this procedure the correct installation of
ELSAvision will be checked. Additionally a configuration panel to
setup the ISDN parameters and the latest driver update from the disk
will be installed during that procedure.

2.2.1 ELSAvision first-time installation

Windows 95 automatically detects new hardware components and asks for
drivers. In this case please insert the ELSAvision CD and input the
path to the CD as path to the CSSELVPB.INF file. Windows 95 can now
acknowledge the ELSAvision board. The CAPI 2.0 drivers and ACOTEC CAPI
subsystem are automatically installed during this process. At first a
driver for Euro-ISDN (DSS1) will be installed.

        ATTENTION:
If you don't install drivers for the board during that process, you
will not be able to get the ELSAvision running. If you want to install
the drivers later you should do it as described under section 2.2.2 to
        ensure a correct installation.

The installation of the ELSAvision software however will not
be performed completely during that process. This has to be done
        afterwards with the CDSETUP program.

Especially the menu point "CAPI 2.0 installation/update" should be
performed at first. During this procedure the correct installation of
ELSAvision will be checked. Additionally a configuration panel to
setup the ISDN parameters and the latest driver update from the disk
will be installed during that procedure.

2.2.2 ELSAvision update installation from version 1.42 or lower

In this case it is neccessary that the system during the booting
procedure detects the ELSAvision as a new hardware component, for
which it automatically offers the installation of new drivers.

So the update-installation of ELSAvision must start with the removal
of ELSAvision from the system. To do this, you just have to start the
CDSETUP and choose the item "CAPI 2.0 installation/update".

If ELSAvision is present in the network control panel, you will be
asked to remove it from the network control panel. A help assistant
will be started to help you during this process.

After the manual removal of ELSAvision from the network control panel
you should restart your system. After restart the old installation
        will be removed completely.

During the next restart of your system windows 95 will identify
ELSAvision as a new hardware component, and you can perform the
installation like the first-time installation described in the
        previous section.

Especially the menu point "CAPI 2.0 installation/update" should be
performed at first. During this procedure the correct installation of
ELSAvision will be checked. Additionally a configuration panel to
setup the ISDN parameters and the latest driver update from the disk
will be installed during that procedure.

2.2.3 ELSAvision update installation from version 1.50

If you have already installed the ELSAvision software V.1.50 or
higher, the hardware detection is not neccessary again. You can
install or update the desired software components directly via CDSETUP
        from the ELSAvision CD.

4. Caveats

This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
        hints on work arounds.

4.1 DCI-primary support

This version of the ELSAvision software still does not support
the DCI-primary interface. Therefore a graphics adapter with
DCI-offscreen support is neccessary for ELSAvision.

4.2 Triton Board failure

On some of the newer Pentium boards with the Triton Chipset
(mainly Intel Alladin and Zappa) the system crashes after a few
seconds running offscreen. The reason is a bug in the chipset
which may be circumvented by reprogramming it. This can be
enabled by inserting "TritonFix=1" in the [DCISurface] section
        of "win.ini".

If you encounter other crashes, especially corrupting harddisk,
you will need to disable IDE prefetch buffer in the BIOS. This is
due to a bug in your IDE controller chip in conjunction with the
        Triton Chipset.

4.3 Windows 95

ELSAvision is only capable of running offscreen if used in
conjunction with DirectDraw. On ELSA WINNER graphics boards,
Windows 95 driver Version 1.04 and newer is required. If you use
it with other graphics boards or older driver versions, you will
only have DD-primary support. The same will appear, if you
upgrade from Windows 3.1x to Windows 95 without reinstalling
ELSAvision driver. On 2MB cards DirectDraw will only run off-
screen up to 800*600 pixels with 16 bpp. Future ELSA WINNER
        drivers will fix this.

4.4 Display of two separat video windows

Display of two separat video windows is possible on the following
        graphics boards:

Graphics boards with controller S3 968
        (e.g. ELSA WINNER 2000 PRO/X, 2000 AVI)
        - In 65536 color mode on boards with 2MB memory at resolutions up to
          1024 * 768 pixel
        - In 32 Mio. color mode on boards with 4MB memory at resolutions up to
          1024 * 768 pixel

Graphics boards with controller S3 TRIO or S3 VIRGE
        (e.g. ELSA WINNER 1000 TRIO, 2000 AVI 3D, VICTORY 3D)
        - ELSA grafics boards with driver version 4.03.2114 or later
        - In 65536 color mode on boards with 2MB memory at resolutions up to
          800 * 600 pixel
        - In 32 Mio. color mode on boards with 4MB memory at resolutions up to
          1024 * 768 pixel

4.5 Other caveats

        - The audio quality is strongly depending on the setting of the
          microphone input level.

        - Currently ELSAvision must not be run in 8 Bit colormodes
(256 colors) under Windows 95 on grafics boards with controller
          S3 868 od 968 (z.B. ELSA WINNER 1000 PRO/X, 1000 AVI, 2000 PRO/X,
2000 AVI). Otherwise it may cause the system to hang.
