        Release Description

The AudioDrive ES1788 OS/2 Driver Software Release incorporates
        the features listed below.

        Features in Version 1.00 Beta

        Concurrent MIDI and Digital Audio

Both MIDI and WAVE files (including system sounds) can happen at
the same time, independent of one another.

        Improved MIDI timing

MIDI is using high resolution timer services provided by a new
IBM device driver (TIMER0.SYS). MIDI timing is accurate to 1
millisecond, making MIDI playback under OS/2 better than ever
        before.

        Greatly improved stream time handling

Stream time handling has been written to use a buffering
technique which gives a high degree of timing accuracy, even
when viewing extremely long .AVI files.

Multiple instances of Digital Audio and MIDI

Multiple instances of MIDI and Digital Audio can occur and
coexist. Ownership of the device is passed seamlessly between
applications using focus and previous ownership as determining
        factors.

        Newly developed Virtual Device Driver

A new Virtual Device Driver (VDD) has been written to handle
device contention and maintenance issues. It works much like a
VxD under Windows and virtualizes access to the audio device.

        Known Problems

        1. Opening too many MIDI files makes the OS/2 system unstable.

        Installation Notes

To install the new drivers successfully the following steps must
        be taken:

        1. If you just want to update drivers for the same AudioDrive
chip, go to step 3. If you want to replace drivers for
different AudioDrive chips, then continue to step 2.

        2. Open an OS/2 Window and run the ESUNINST.EXE program on the
installation disk by typing "A:ESUNINST". This program will
create a backup of CONFIG.SYS named CONFIG.ESS and remove
the audio device lines from CONFIG.SYS. It also creates a
backup of MMPM2.INI named MMPM2.ESS and removes the audio
drivers information from MMPM2.INI. In addition, it removes
any ESS driver information in COMPLIST.INI.

        3. In an OS/2 Window run the MINSTALL.EXE program on the
installation disk by typing "A:MINSTALL". Select AudioDrive
ES1788. Once the drivers are installed, shutdown and restart
OS/2 for the new ES1788 drivers to take effect.
