Using the UP to MP utility

The UP to MP utility facilitates the upgrade of a UniProcessor machine
to a MultiProcessor machine and upgrades the Hardware Abstraction Layer
(HAL) files if needed. Running the application is straightforward,
though the following preparations will be helpful.

        1. After shutting down your system, install the new CPU(s)
as described in the documentation provided by the vendor.

        2. Restart your system. The system will still be running
the UniProcessor software so only one CPU will be in use.

        3. Know where the Multiprocessor HAL and upgrade files are
located for your machine. If you did not receive a diskette
containing these files from the vendor supplying the new
CPU(s), the check the CD-ROM for the TXTSETUP.SIF file.

        4. Find the disk(s) the Windows NT Software came on. This may
be the CD-ROM, possibly the same as in step 3 above, or it
may be a different disk, network shared directory or even
        floppy disks.

        5. Shutdown and restart the system. When Windows NT has
restarted it will be running the MultiProcessor software
        you just installed.

        6. Run the RDISK utility to update the emergency disk and
        backed up registry.
