I. Introduction
This readme file will document the necessary procedures
for installing the Power Management Software and S3 OEM Video Drivers.
It will also include the known errata for both Windows NT 3.1 and
Windows NT 3.5.

II. Installing Power Management Software

The following steps will install the Power Management Software:

1. Boot (Start) Windows NT.
2. Log on as Administrator.
3. Put diskette into drive A.
4. Invoke the MS-DOS shell, by clicking on MS-DOS Prompt.
5. Change to drive A by type "A:" at the prompt.
6. Type "Install" at the prompt.

In order for the change to take affect, the system must be shut down and
restarted.

III. INSTALLING WINDOWS NT DISPLAY DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS NT 3.5

1. Start Windows NT.
2. From the MAIN window of the Program Manager, click on
    Control Panel.
3. Then click on "Display" and choose "Change Display Type"
4. Then Under "Adapter Type" box, choose Change. Highlight
'S3 Compatible Graphics Adapter' and select Install.
5. Follow the instructions.

6. Insert the 'PowerMan' diskette into drive A.
7. Reboot the machine and system will boot from the diskette
8. Copy the following files (using DOS COPY command) into the
    directories indicated below:

	   File Directory
	   ---- ----------
	1. S3.DLL <WinNTDir>\SYSTEM32
	1. S3.SYS <WinNTDir>\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS

where <WinNTDir> is the base directory of Windows NT. For example,
if it is installed under 'WINNT35' directory on C driver, <WinNTDir>
    would be 'C:\WINNT35'.

Note: Copying these files will NOT work when Windows NT is running and
          S3 drivers are active!

9. Remove the diskette and reboot the machine to start Windows NT 3.5

IV. Setting Power Management Software for the User

The user must chose desktop icon from the Control Panel group under
Main. The user must chose PowerMan for the screen saver. Under "setup" for
Powerman, the user may set his level of power savings. He may select to
power manage the hard drive or the video. He may also select the time
to wait before entering the desired state.

For the monitor, the user may select "Power Manage Video". The options
which are permitted are "Video Standby", "Video Off", and "Video Suspend".

For video standby mode, the horizontal sync signal is turned off. This results
in VESA Power Managed compliant monitors entering power savings mode.
To "wake the monitor up", press any key or move/click the mouse.

For video suspend mode, the vertical sync signal is turned off. This results
in VESA Power Managed compliant monitors entering power savings mode.
To "wake the monitor up", press any key or move/click the mouse.

For video off mode, the horizontal and vertical sync signals are turned off.
This results in VESA Power Managed compliant monitors effectively dropping
all power. To "wake the monitor up", press any key or move/click the mouse.
While this mode can provide significantly more power savings (as compared to
Video Suspend), more time is required for the monitor to be restored to a
fully functional state when transitioning from the Off mode.

The hard drive may be power managed, by selecting the Power Manage Hard Drive
option. If you select this option, IDE hard drives will be issued a command
to go into a standby state after the time specified (0-99 minutes) is elapsed.
This results in IDE hard drives spinning down, thus conserving power.
IDE drives will be spun back up when the IDE access is made. If the IDE
drives on your system don't support Power Mode, the standby command
will have no effect.

The user may specify a delay time before entering a desired power managed
state. This option can be enabled when selecting Video Standby, Video Suspend,
Video off and Drive spin down. The preselected delay time may be 0 -99
miniutes. The power managed time count will start after the screen saver is
activated.

V. Known Errata

1. The hard drive must not be accessed for 1 minute before it will spin
down.

2. Under Power Manager screen saver, no other screen saver may be chosen.

3. If the Power Manager setup window is open and the screen saver is
activated, the video will shut down as set and the hard drive will not
spin down.
