  PC/X-Magazine is free for everyone and spreading is encouraged. If you
  want to have a printed copy of the current issue (or from prior
  issues), call our BBS and post a message to us so we can work some-
  thing out.

  We will try to make this a very interesting zine with all kinds of in-
  formation that's usefull for almost anyone running PC-Express. Besides
  this textfile we incorporate much more in the archives that we make
  such as a list of all the BBS's in the world that are using PC-Express
  (registered and unregistered), a source file for an utility that some-
  one has coded (and one that works :-)), some ANSI- & ASCII-texts, a
  vote sheet etc.

  In the magazine itself we'll try to hold on to the following contents:

  a) General information,
  b) What's in the archive that you've got (downloaded),
  c) Editorial section,
  d) Offered information,
  e) New things, bugs and idea's,
  f) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's),
  g) Short story (optional),
  h) PC-ExpressNet(c),
  i) Source section (MugSHot),
  j) Tool report,
  k) List with released utilities and idea's for utilities that need
     to be coded,
  l) How to register your copy of PC-Express,
  m) List of people that have registered themselves this month,
  n) All the PC-Express HQ's,
  o) Distributors of this zine,
  p) End notes.

  We'll do much be we can't do it alone; if you have a source-file that
  you want to share with others so that they too can learn to code, if
  you have a textfile with important information, if you have an addi-
  tion to the list with (un-)registered BBS's in your country etc.
  please give it to one the people that is able to incorporate it in the
  next issue of the magazine. We all must try to make this zine interes-
  ting for us all.

  When you want to contact the author with submissions, your vote, com-
  plaints, idea's etc. write a message to one of the above mentioned In-
  ternet addresses, call our BBS or mail us at the following address:

 As you might have noticed we've got a new Internet address. Some people
 wrote to our former address when the change was made; it could be that
 we did not receive your message. If this is true we're very sorry, but
 it was out of our hands. Would you please write your message again to
 our new address?

 We (Creative Team) have translated the complete documentation of PC/X
 into Dutch. This textfile will be given only to registered users. If
 you are a registered user and if you want to have this textfile, call
 X-TReMe BBS. The documentation is updated for PC/X v1.30. The name of
 the archive: CT-TNDOC.ZIP. It will be availble in a few weeks when PC/X
 v1.30() is released.

 -3-
 The name of the Swedish PC/X support board has changed it's name; XecaZ
 changed "Slime World" into "-+- FERTiLiZED BSCESS -+-". All the other
 data of his BBS remain the same.

 -4-
 Next, if a person can be reached via The Internet, we'll place his/her
 Internet address with the data of his/her BBS in PCE_TOT.LST.

 -5-
 The PC/X WHQ and PC/X DHQ are going to draw up an international valid
 agreement for the registration of PC-Express. It is the intention that
 every support site that registers a person should keep these rules in
 mind so that there'll be one (and only one) price in the whole world.
 When a support site registers a person from it's own country, that per-
 son could also pay an equivalent of the international valid price. We

  Last time we have written that PC/X does not work alright with modems
  with a ROCKWELL chip. Michael has tested it and he writes the follo-
  wing:

  In your mag you wrote that pc-express has problems with rockwell chip-
  set and it hangs up direct! I have tested this and it is true, but the
  problem is not pc/x, the problem is the settings, so here's the solve:
  Remove the pipe from the answerstring (ATA and not ATA|) and then most
  times s0 is set to 1 it must be set to 0 (ats0=0) cauze on a usr modem
  it must be set to 1! If you do this 2 things pce works quite well with
  the ROCKWELL chipsset!

  `--------------------------------------------------'

  We thought that it could be nice if the people that nowadays code on
  PC-Express tools were mentioned in this magazine. There are groups but
  also people that code alone. We will try to give you as much informa-
  tion as possible about these guys (and girls) accordingly to the in-
  formation that they gave us. We also give you some information about
  the amount of releases (read: acitvity) of these people.

  Groups and persons that don't have released a tool for pc/x within two
  months will be removed out of the list.

  Conclusion: It was CrAzY who did most of the releases this month: 17
              tools and besides releasing the tools themselves they also
              put the source in some of them.

              The following groups/persons won't be in this list as from
              next month: COWS, KILLERS, PC/X WHQ, REBELS.

:  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)  \  /  :
`-----------------------------------------------------------------\/-----'

  Q: Will PC-Express be going to support networks like Fidonet in the
     future?

  A: Yes. In PC-Express v1.3 we hope that we have replaced the current
     message-base with JAM-base so that besides our own network other
     mail/file networks like Fidonet can be incorporated too.

  Q: I see many errors occur when I start v1.20demo, for example when
     PC/X asks for the handle and location/group; why is that?

  A: PC-Express v1.20 works with language files. Many users say that the
     language files are not incorporated in the pc/x-archive, but they
     are! Take a look at the archive "pce00000.003". Inside that archive
     are 4 files which form the English language. Place them in your
     textpath (e.g. c:\bbs\node0). Next, take care of the fact that the
     English language is correctly installed in the config.exe. When you
     now start pc/x, you don't see these errors anymore.

                                                                ______

  1995. You can choose whether you want to register or not. After decem-
  ber 28, you can obtain a shareware version in which not all functions
  will work or, if you're registered, a fully working version. The fol-
  lowing options do not work in the shareware version:

  (B)ackscroll,
  (D)ownload,
  (G)et dir,
  (I)nfo.

  If you decide to register TheTag, please fillin the registration form
  (REGISTER.TT) and mail it together with the money to the address men-
  tioned in the documentation (the documentation will be available for
  everyone). We will keep a list of all registered users and print this
  list every month in this magazine.

 Here is more information about our new network! We had to change the
Zone-number for PC-ExpressNet(c) because "123" was already occupied. Now
PC-ExpressNet(c) has the Zone-number "167". The other numbers also have
changed, so I think that I best can give you an overview of the current
situation:

  Software
  ~~~~~~~~
  What do you need to run with PC-ExpressNet(c)? The same as for running
  with other networks:  A frontend program like  FrontDoor or DBridge, a
  mailer/tosser like FMail (FMail v0.98 supports JAM-base) and a offline
  mail reader  like BlueWave  (as well as for the BBS  as for the user).
  Most programs require that you run with Fossil instead of UART so take
  the trouble and install i.e. X00.  FrontDoor doesn't support JAM-base.
  For a good maintainance a program like Allfix can be use too.
  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'
  STEEViE B. (CrAzY)  has made  a small tool for us  that cuts  the file
  LASTCALL.DAT to 100 calls.  When your LASTCALL.DAT contains many, many
  calls,  it can sometimes  give your system  disadvantages  like slower
  proceeding etc. This tool will read your LASTCALL.DAT, makes a backup,
  only keeps  the last  100 calls  and saves that to  a new LASTCALL.DAT
  (the backup file is called LASTCALL.SAV).  Explanation of what's going
  on is displayed on the screen, but you can also disable that feature.
  It works quite fast. I have tested it with a file which was 165004 by-
  tes and held 1331 calls.  Cutcall.exe cut it to 12400 bytes, this in a
  few seconds. Maybe you can speed up the process even more by using the
  parameter "-q" which disables the text output.
  You can execute Cutcall.exe from any directory, it automatically sear-
  ches for your LASTCALL.DAT in your BBS-directory.
  STEEViE B. has made a .doc that accompanies the tool.  In this .doc he
  explains quite good what will happen when you use the tool.
  We all see that it's a small tool, but it does it's work good!
   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Good working LASTCALL.DAT cutter for pc/x v1.20

  |  Short Desc.: Display .ANS/.ASC files (v1.18+)                    |
  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'
  This is a small program that enables a SysOp to show an ANSI or ASCII
  file to an user. The program automatically detects whether or not the
  user uses ANSI and will display the ANSI or ASCII text accordingly.

  You will have to execute the tool each time you want to display a file
  so maybe here's a little disadvantage. In this way the user will pro-
  ceed slower each time you execute the tool.

  Besides a small .doc file, MuHaDiB has incorporated the source into
  the archive! I wish that more guys/girls did that, because in this way
  people that want to learn coding pc/x tools experience a lower thres-
  hold.

  One small thing: When you execute ShowOnl.Exe without parameters, you
  make a (very) small mistake by saying:

  Uses   : ShowOnl.Exe -N<NodeNumber> -<FileName>

  but the last parameter has to be -<Path+FileName>. The example beneath
  this sentence corrects it, however.

  Maybe you can let ShowOnl.Exe read a textfile in which SysOp's can
  write down (path- and) filenames that they want to have displayed on
  their BBS, so that this tool should not have to be executed on each
  single file.

   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Text-displayer that displays 1 file, with automatically ANSI detect,
    each time you start it.
