--------------------------------------------------------------------
SmoothDesk is a remote desktop application written for PDA's. It has
been tested on a HP iPAQ rx1950 running Windows Mobile 5.0, and will
probably work on similar machines.

------------------------
Installing SmoothDesk:

1) The server exe can be run on any Windows 2000/XP based machine.
When first run, it will create a svconfig.cfg in the same folder in
order to store your settings.

2) The SmoothDeskMobile.exe should be copied to your PDA. You may
place it wherever you please, including on a SD card. You may then
browse to the file on your PDA and run it as you would any other
application. When first run, it will create a clconfig.cfg in the same
folder in order to store your settings.

------------------------
You may need to tweak the settings on the SmoothDesk server, depending
on what kind of machine and connection you are using:

1) Block size should be raised for high bandwidth situations, and
lowered for low bandwidth. For a 256kbit connection, a block size of
32 pixels should work well. The default is 96, assuming a LAN
connection.

2) Raising the frame interval can also lessen bandwidth use, but at
the cost of responsiveness.

3) Using JPEG compression instead of PNG can use less data, depending
on the types of images being presented, but it will likely not look as
clear and sharp as PNG.

4) Remember to set your password on the server after you first start
it up.

------------------------
Controlling the SmoothDesk client:

1) The pad on your PDA will enable you to scroll the viewing area.

2) The pad enter key on your PDA will send off a request to the server
for a preview shot when pushed. Once you get a preview shot back, you
can tap any area of the screen and go immediately to that area instead
of having to scroll to it.

3) To "right-click" using your stylus, bring up the keyboard and select
shift and ctrl. Shift and control will not be registered on the client
unless another keyboard key is pressed, so while they are pressed on
your client, all taps will be considered right-click taps on the
desktop.

4) You can resize your viewing area, so that it's possible to, for
example, view a 640x480 resampled into your PDA's 320x240 viewing area.
To do this, make sure the Control key is held down on your PDA
keyboard, and push up and down on the PDA's directional pad to scale
the view up and down.

That should be enough to get you going.
