DixAlert watches noise levels on a specified video input device,
such as a webcam, and exports JPEG and/or PNG images when it
detects a large enough spike. It can also send e-mail to alert
the user using the SMTP protocol.

It is possible to get a full remote security solution this way
by setting the program up to e-mail you (probably through a
local SMTP domain redirect since it does not offer security
and authentication) on a mobile account, and then setting the
program up to export images to a folder which is shared through
a web server such as Apache. The e-mail will specify the name
of the exported image and you can then go to it directly from
whatever your mobile device may be to investigate the situation.
