NOREGRET.BSP by Peter Lok
Version 1.0 released Oct 1, 1999

You MUST NOT distribute this level UNLESS you INCLUDE THIS FILE WITH
NO MODIFICATIONS!!!. If you don't co-operate, then DON'T DISTRIBUTE
IT IN ANY FORM!!.

Information
This map is a single player level. The objective of the map is to find and shoot the Administrator, the man responsible for the whole Black Mesa fiasco. The map is finished and fades to black when you are done. Miniturrets can be toggled on/off, but no the sentry guns. Listen for activation or deactivation when toggling off.

To install:

1. Copy the two .wad files into your Valve directory. Should be with a bunch of other wads.

2. Then copy the noregret.bsp file into the valve\map directory.

3. Copy the .nod and the .nrp to the valve\map\graph directory

3. Run HalfLife in console mode. Make a shortcut on your desktop with halflife.exe -console on the command line.

4. In the console, type /map noregret to play. It is a good idea to save right away so if you die, you don't have to reload the map.

Background
Some scientists and security guards escaped the Black Mesa complex. Knowing the Administrator lived nearby in an outlying bunker complex, they decided to take him out. You only heard about their plans later and have to catch up to them. You also have the codes to access the Administrator's complex. Contact with the scientists has been lost, it is now up to you.

Notes
This map is my very first map. I hope you enjoy playing it.
The map will be somewhat cramped to some people, but I was interested in using stealth and sneaking more. Firefights are going to be vicious and usually short. Pick your fights carefully as you might come out on top once, but be killed off in the next one in your weakened state. Watch your step and keep your head down. There are multiple ways and approaches into most areas. This map surprises even me as the grunts don't always act the same way. I've even seen the captured scientists get executed.

R-Speeds. I didn't really optimize this map and some areas are going to be slow. I figured I had to finish the map first in about 2 weeks of time. Had to move onto my next projects in Java.

Compile Times For Worldcraft 2.1
Running on a PII 366, it took about 4.5 hours to run through everything with full or extra options set.

Map Making
Learning Worldcraft and the Half-Life entities took awhile. I figure I probably spent around 80 hours in total building, debugging, tweaking the map. Fun, but it took way too long. I'd like to thank my patient wife. I also wanted the Administrator to say the No Regret phrase at the end, but I couldn't get it to work and I did a fade out instead.
Also thanks to AK-47 for the helpful starter advice. Also, also thanks to all the half-life mapping sites for the great tutorials. I couldn't have done it without them. Feel free to use elements from this map, just give me a brief credit.

My Background
I'm Peter Lok, a long time gamer. You might have met me playing Team Fortress as "Doh!!". I have been a programmer/system analyst for 10 years, working with Oracle, Sybase, Visual Basic, C, Java, and Powerbuilder. Currently I'm also interested in switching over to developing online/multiplayer games (sever side work) from business applications. I built the map just to try it. I like fighting grunts too and find the map fairly challenging.

E-mail: peterlok@hotmail.com I'd like feedback on the map good or bad.
