Dark Overlord's GUI
===================
A Dungeon Keeper II Map Generation Utility for use with Mark Kinkead's
DK2 Mapper Map Complier.
* PLEASE NOTE * that this program DOES NOT generate a playable map for
Dungeon Keeper II (DK2), it only generates an ASCII Text Map suitable to
be compiled into a working map using Mark Kinkead's DK2 Mapper program.

DISCLAIMER
==========
I DO NOT warrant this program being suitable for any purpose. Upon installing
this program you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK. If something happens to your system
after you install this program, too bad, don't blame me.
This is UNSUPPORTED software, as I don't normally have time to answer any
questions.
If you wish to send a legitimate bug report or a specfic question NOT covered
in the manual, feel free to do so, but I can't guarentee a reply.

This is FREEWARE, in other words, your not a customer.
I started this Mapper GUI as a help for myself, others that saw it hounded me
to make it publicially available. I am doing so against my better judgement.
I don't have a very good 'social' attitude <smile>, so all I can say to
things like "It dosen't work","I can't get it to work" or "You wrote it, so
you HAVE to help me" is DELETE IT and get on with your life.

"It works here"..and that all 'I' really care about..

This program IS NOT recommended for the computer-illiterate that don't know
how to copy a file or what a 'DOS Promt' is.
Email to the effect of "How do I use it?", "You can't Spell" etc, will be
givin all the time it deserves. None!

SO, That said and if your still here..on with the installation.

===================
Release 1.0b (beta)
===================
DOES NOT support the newest functions in DK2 Mapper 1.1
HERO-BANDS, HEROES, AREAS, HERO_GATES, TRIGGERS, SCENARIO_DESCRIPTION
But has references to them and works with DK2 Mapper 1.1.
Either the Alpha Version of the full release will support these.

REQUIREMENTS
------------
AT LEAST a Pentium
I use a Pentium II 266.

** YOU MUST BE RUNNING WINDOWS IN 800x600 RESOULTION (16-Bit) OR HIGHER **
If you are running a higher res. Center the GUI in the middle of the screen
** IT WILL NOT WORK at 640x480 **

I have no idea if this will work under Windows 98. Im using 95a.

INSTALLATION
------------
There is no nifty-difty setup program for the GUI. Please use the following.

Step 1.) Keep in mind if you don't know how to follow any of these
instructions. You have 2 options.
Option 1: Figure it out.
Option 2: DELETE these files and get on with life. (smile)

Step 2.) Create a directory on drive C: called DK2GUI
(Yes, you HAVE to install it there with this version, if this is not suitable
please see Step 1, Option 2)

3.) Unzip using WinZIP or some other program capable of extracting the files
from a PKZIP Archive. BE SURE to extract with 'recurse folders' on so that it
creates all the directories needed.
Extract the entire Archive DK2GUI.ZIP to C:\DK2GUI
If you don't know how to unzip the archive or check the directories to see
if you have all these files, Go to Step 1, do Option 2.

You should have the following directory structure and files after this.

Files that should be in C:\DK2GUI
        dk2gui.exe Main Program File
        readme.txt Installation Instructions
        manual.txt Users Manual
dk2mapper.zip The Full Archive of Mark Kinkeads DK2 Mapper 1.1

MS VB4 (Visual Basic 4) Required files
        vb40032.dll VB4 Runtime
        threed.ocx VB4 Three D Control
olepro32.dll Library file need by program
ctl3d32.dll Library file need by program

        codes.dat Game Codes
        creatures.dat Creature Descriptions
        doors.dat Door Descriptions
        terrain.dat Terrain Descriptions
        things.dat Thing Descriptions
        traps.dat Trap Descriptions

*these are all text files, be advised if the are changed
in any way you will crash the GUI

Files that should be in C:\DK2GUI\MAPS

May or may not have map sample files
This is were all maps are created by the GUI

4.) copy the following files from C:\DK2GUI to your Windows System
directory (Normally C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM)

        vb40032.dll VB4 Runtime
        threed.ocx VB4 Threed Control

If it says you already have them, or they are already being used by Windows
you can take your chances with the ones you have.

It is safe to delete the VB files from the DK2GUI directory them afterword

5.) Create a shortcut to the DK2GUI Program.

6.) If all is right, DK2GUI should start up
