Osiris Norn Genome Version 1.4
----------------------------

This is the standard readme file for Osiris. The Osiris package contains male and
female exports of baby age, and a genome file. This should be enough material to
satisfy any need. Place the export files into your Creatures3/My Creatures directory
and simply import them into your world of choice. The genome file might be of use
in a genome injector or genetic editor.

NEW IN THIS VERSION
-------------------
Due to somewhat misleading circumstances, and my own impatience, I misjudged and beleived
that I had discovered a "degree of mutation" gene code. As it turns out, it was just
coincidence that I saw the results I did, and they had nothing to do with changing that
code. So i set all my pigment genes to what I thought was maximum degree of mutation, when
in reality I had found a new way to turn them all off... It turns out that all that particular
code really does is turn the entire gene off... Nice, huh?

So this version fixes that issue, and activates all the pigment and bleed genes.

It was discovered (oh not again!) during a wolfling run, that many of my Osiris Norns were
basically living dead... Oxygen levels fixed, no breathing, no glucose... What the *!*#!?
So I took one to the aquarium and plunked him in. He did NOT die. In fact 30 minutes later
he was still walking around underwater. Careful observation led me to discover a liver
related Highlander syndrome of sorts... Old age still kills, but that's ALL that does...
Cyanide, geddonase, glycogen, carbon monoxide, starvation, drowning... No effect at all.

So... much as I hated to do it, I removed the "liver catabolic" damage from disease, end
of problem. Hmpf, thanks Cyberlife...

I did *not* like how rabid a disease #2 was, so I made it about the same as the others. I
prefer if I don't wake up to a graveyard of #2 victims on a long overnight wolf run.
Hey, the Shee left this damn ship to me, and if I don't like something, tough nuts :-)
Sorry if public opinion is otherwise, and if you guys want it back, I will oblige :-)

I added a new gene that produces a *very* light dose of antihistamine from fat and glucose.
It's not much, but it does reduce the duration of sneeze-and-cough a bit. I didn't think it
was very logical for a Norn to spend 90% of it's life sneezing.

I finally cut loose, and tweaked the Osiris colors. I guess I figured it would be a bit
more interesting if the values were not 128's, and I was very right. Now any change even
in value or activation in the colors genes will cause a distinct color change in the Norn
in question. The Osiris Norn comes stock as a sort of bluegreen-gray with green highlights.
It's not loud, it's not really striking, but their kids are neater :-) In just 1 generation,
purples, greens, blues, grays, and more come right out, and that's from breeding a clone
with a clone! It's pretty decent :-)

Uhhh that's about it, as if it wasn't enough hehehe. Well, Osiris is shaping up, and I hope
y'all like it so far :-)

History and notes
---------------------------------

The Osiris Norn genome was developed because in large part of a Norn-Ettin splice
named Ettina, who bore active facial expression genes. It was this discovery that
fueled my desire to enhance the Norn genetic structure. Cyberlife, though brilliant,
left many holes in thier gene code for the Norn species. Most obviously was the lack
of facial expression. Anyone whom has played Creatures Adventures knows that the
Norns in that game express emotion quite well. It almost breaks one's heart to see
a CA Norn in misery.

C3 Norns also have a good few behavioral disorders that they could do well without.
They focus on escaping the Norn terrarium so much that they abandon valuable functions
like eating. Thier willingness to abandon each other's company insures that they will
die alone and starving, having never mated. Soon the whole group simply falls into
extinction unless barricaded by whatever means.

Coloring is yet another poor point. Cyberlife could have done wonders with variance in
species, but they chose to make them non-varied to a fault. Unlike C2, there are no
varied colors. Put this together with the zombielike facial expression, and it gets
old very quick.

Osiris solves some of these issues, with enhancements for:

Facial expression variety - All expressions available
Pigment genes - 19 total genes, 7 of which are new
Sex drive - 2 modified genes and 2 new genes for increased sex drive
Highlander fix - no more immortal Norns!

ALL of these genes are set 255 mutation chance to make things interesting down the
family line. A preliminary study revealed:

In a sealed wolfling run containing 1 male and 1 female Osiris Norn only, 6 generations
were allowed to pass. Each successive generation was analyzed for natural genetic
mutations. The first 6th generation child was discovered to bear 1 modification in
sex drive, 4 modifications in pigment, and 1 modification in pigment bleed. 4 of these 6
key mutations were large changes.

------------------------------------

Currently the Osiris genome consists of 818 total genes. Experiments are conducted
all the time, and long periods are spent throwing the latest and greatest Osiris
revision into pure wolfling run. When better genomes are recognized, the results will
be posted on the site as a new download. Always come back now and then to see what's new!
