Model description : Nekros began his cruel and unforgiving existence in the breeder tanks of a Vadrigar host-experimentation laboratory. Having his genetic blueprint culled from the backbone of DNA captured on earth, Nekros developed many of the features and abilities inherent in his species: the Gorgosaur. While his size was limited, due to the constraints of most arenas, Nekros was still a large and extremely powerful arena combatant. Making up for deficiencies in cunning and maneuverability with brute strength, phenomenal speed and superior senses, Nekros was successful within the arena.......

at first.

Unfortunately, Nekros soon discovered torment as one combatant, Visor, discovered weaknesses in his fighting style and began to exploit them publically. Limited by his fundamental lack of reasoning ability and adaptability, the Vadrigar soon becamed displeased with the giant reptile's performance. After one particularly embarrassing match against the Vadrigar's very own champion: Bones, the Vadrigar cursed the poor, wretched, stupid creature to an existence preparing other beginning arena combatants for battle.

Nekros failed to flourish in the outermost levels of the arena. Even new combatants performed well against the beast, and while it won most matches, the Vadrigar damned the animal to the darkest, bloodiest most macabre levels of the Arena. Facing foes of such power, skill and utter cruelty that can only be found in distant memory, masters and teachers to the likes of Xaero, Visor and Krusade, Nekros suffered centuries of punishment. Slaughtered millions of times, each one more painful and brutal than the next, the Vadrigar ceased participating in spectation over the pathetic being's attempts at survival. Facing creatures like Bones and Uriel, the beast was outmatched and soon surrendered each match, choosing a dark corner--to hide, to mourn its painful existence. It was not until one exceptionally drawn out battle that the Vadrigar discovered Nekros hiding under a set of stairs.....

And dispatched Doom to terminate the beast, one final time, after the Vadrigar imbued it with limited respawn capability.

Doom, tracking and cornering the beast, proved the monster's better by clipping Nekros' in the eyes with a burst of plasma gun fire. Blind and alone, Nekros' fragile and punished psyche snapped, and the large animal hurled himself at Doom, like a battering ram, knocking the warrior over and attempted to crack the combatant's helmet between its powerfully muscular jaws. Having spent his last cells for the plasma gun, Doom resorted to his machine gun and thouroughly stitched the creature across the chest.

But Nekros did not die. Doom admired the creature's will. As the giant animal lay dying, Doom was attacked behind from by Visor and was forced to draw Visor away before the cybronic human could destroy his target. Doom prevailed in their battle. One that he savors more than most, because Doom was able to return and, rather than killing Nekros, submitted him for cybronic enhancement. Never one to crush a spirit willing to fight, Doom requesitioned resources of the Visor-spawn project and re-routed it to Nekros' cybronic metamorphosis.

Provided with cybronic speed, strength and resilence enhancements, Nekros' shattered psyche began to mend. To be sure, the labs were an abominable place, with unholy experiments scarring his physical form every day. Scars Nekros somehow understood would never heal. He didn't care. He endured. Nekros understood that the process was making him stronger....

And the labs, while nightmarish in themselves, were nothing compared to the hellish Arena.

With one final experiment was left to complete, the laboratory scientists were debating to whom they should perform it on. They were charged with creating newer and better Visor-spawns by the Vadrigar but the scientists were also proud of their creation. All tests on Nekros exhibited his already prodigious physical capabilities expanding voluminously. The experiment was an intelligence enhancement gland. Warriors with both cunning AND strength would provide the Vadrigar with extreme pleasure.

But the scientists allowed vanity to curtail the submission of the experiment to the two waiting Visor-spawn: Gorre and Mauul.

Nekros was provided the gland. It was a success. The beast's IQ skyrocked, exceeding the intelligence of all but the most brilliant Arena combatants and the Vadrigar themselves. Nekros, upon discovering the exstacy of ideas and realizing that he was no longer prey, chuckled in a nightmarish gurgle and in a glee that masked his cruelty, eviscerated and devoured Mauul. Gorre could not be killed. He could not be found, for he had run away too quickly...

The weeks that followed Nekros returned to the Arena at the wish of his masters: the Vadrigar. The Vadrigar had discovered the scientist's disobedience and had turned them all inside-out. The Vadrigar soon discovered Nekros' superior abilities. Nekros stalked Visor and wrought his vengeance on the cyberon a dozen hundred times. Bones fell to the large beast. It was only once but it was enough for Vadrigar to take notice. The beast was wicked, intelligent, and his raw strength was almost unmatched....

And the Arena combatants suffered at his hands...

and suffered....

and suffered...

Much like Xaero, Hunter, Krusade and Uriel, Nekros was soon given his own level within the Arena. A dark and blood-soaked nightmare that he ruled over with an unholy glee....

Even the most powerful, most experienced Arena combatants avoid his home: the "Nest of Lies"... Instead, only the naive, foolish and unaware would stumble into his terrifying home.

To this day, he's still there....
A freak of nature. An abomination in his own personal nautilus, made of brick and mortar. A stain on the grace of God, that uses intimidation, manipulation and a penchant for almost unbelievably contrived planning to ensure that all interlopers to his lair suffer as much as possible before his supreme strength rends them limb from limb.

He's there.

Nekros calls you...

Do you answer?

Other info : This is my first attempt in creating a Quake 3 Arena skin, and I am proud of the result. My biggest problems originated in my lack of time and my difficulty with metal rendering. While I think most individuals have an ease rendering metals, few have strengths producting skins and anatomical design. I'm quite the opposite. :)

Overall, I do think the skin is quite different from its "siblings", seeing as how it's a white skin and how it appears to be quite striking in a dark environment...

Thanks to : Nekros for being so patient... ;)
: Paul Hassett AKA: Shizter for the skinning opportunity and Sonic for the solid competition..:)
