Description:
------------
Dcat Screen Saver is a screen saver which allows you to use your own images and audio. Version 1.40 now adds support for MP3 files as well as Wave files. You can create a list of your own transitions from the 81 available transitional effects. Images and the Transition effects can be shown in alphabetical order, list order, your own list order and your own list randomly or with no transitions at all. The screen saver can be set to cover the full desktop or run in a window. A feature new to this version is the ability to shut down the computer from the screen saver. The screen saver can be sent to the Traybar when not required. The last image displayed can be set as the wallpaper. The Audio capability has been greatly enhanced with several ways to manipulate the Audio for best effect.

Operating Systems:
-------------------
Dcat Screen Saver was tested on Windows 95a, Windows 98, Windows NT SP6 and Windows 2000.

System Requirements:
--------------------
Dcat Screen Saver requires Windows 95a,98,NT SP3 or greater or 2000, 16mb ram , Sound card for Audio playback.

32mb ram and high colour (16bit) recommended.

Installation:
-------------
Run Setup.exe to install Dcat Screen Saver.

Visual Basic 6 Runtime Files:
-----------------------------
Although the software does not require the VB6.0 runtime files for installation, the VB6.0 runtime files ARE REQUIRED for the program to run. Read the DSSHelp file for more information.

Visual Basic 5 Runtime File Msvb50vm.dll
----------------------------------------
Dcat Screen Saver uses a 3rd party Active X control called DMC2 to provide audio support. This control requires the Visual Basic file, msvbvm50.dll , to be installed on your system. The installation program will install this file onto the computer. This is required by the installation program. The install will hang with with an error when registering DMC2.ocx if the VB5.0 file has not been installed (either by the installation program or is not already installed).

Virus Scanners And Installing
-----------------------------
Some virus scanners that are configured to scan files as they are accessed may cause some of the following problems when installing Dcat Screen Saver:- The install may slow down and take several minutes to complete, the install may stop altogether, the computer may crash or hang. To overcome this problem switch off the feature which allows files to be scanned upon access.

Please note: It is only at the point that the Dcat Screen Saver installation program is run and those files are scanned as accessed, that a problem is caused. All of Dcat Screen Savers associated files including the zipped archive file can still be scanned for viruses before and/or after installation without any problems.

Virus Scanners
--------------
The computer may slow down for a few seconds or up to two minutes and the CPU activity will increase to 100% when a virus scanner scans Dcat Screen Saver at the point that Dcat Screen Saver executes if the virus scanner is configured to scan for viruses in a screen saver file. This can be avoided by configuring the virus scanner not to scan .scr files or not to scan Dcat Screen Saver when Dcat Screen Saver is run.

If the following virus scanners are set to scan all files when the files are accessed/run then you may find the computer will react in the way described.

The system will with McAfee Virus Scanner and Norton Virus Scanner slow down for up to a minute before allowing access to the screen saver.

AVX Professional takes only 5 to 6 seconds before allowing access.

Kaspersky AVP and F-Secure cause no problems with the system.
