1. Overview
    --------
Networked Bookmarks in its purest form allows network users to take any
network address, for example:
http://www.somelonghostname.org/~jims_results/April/net00a.html
and link it to a user defined keyword like "results". You now only have to
remember your keyword "results" and not the lengthy address.

Possible Uses Before:
Imagine an environment, such as a school, where the teacher is attempting to
direct a large group of students to a particular web address. The students
all attempt to access the address that was written on the blackboard, but
in doing so, waste valuable time maneuvering to the desired location. Words
can be misspelled, periods misplaced, etc. Eliminate the confusion by using
Networked Bookmarks! Networked Bookmarks allows users to add network
addresses (such as web, ftp, telnet, etc.) to a server which can be accessed
by other computers quickly and easily by knowing the user created keyword.

After:
Now imagine the same computer lab. This time the teacher locates, on a
single machine, the address that the group wishes to visit. Within seconds
he/she has the network address entered into the server and has assigned the
keyword "stockinfo" to point to the lengthy network address. Now the
students need only click the Networked Bookmarks icon which resides in the
system tray, type in "stockinfo" and click "Lookup". At the click of another
button the student arrives at the website. This scenario saves time and
patience.

Networked Bookmarks can be used in a variety of other applications. Whether
you just want to eliminate the excess typing and navigation to locations, you
own an online Network, or just want to share data easily with other employees,
departments, etc., Networked Bookmarks is the solution for you.

2. Setup
    -----
==-Setting up a Server-==

Setting up Networked Bookmarks is a quick and simple task. The setup
procedure is composed of two parts. The first part is to setup a Networked
Bookmarks Server. Select a computer on your network, that you want to be the
Network Bookmarks Server. Note: This machine does NOT have to be the same
machine which runs your network communication software, but it is advised
that the machine you choose have static IP or host address and a relatively
fast connection to your network. The server installation program is
contained in the file nbs100.zip, which should be included in the archive
that contained this readme file. Unzip the contents of the nbs100.zip file
into a temporary directory on the machine that is to be the server. After
you have extracted the files included within the nbs100.zip file, run the
program named 'Setup'. After starting the setup program, a wizard will guide
you through the process of installing the server to the computer. After the
server is installed, you may start it by locating it under the
Start-->Programs Menu (Default group name is Networked Bookmarks Server).

The server shows the current state that it is in-whether it is waiting for
connections from clients, or offline, and what port it is listening on. You
may start or stop the server from the main server console by either clicking
the start or stop button on your screen, or selecting the appropriate action
from the Server Menu. You may change settings that change how your server
operates by going under the Server-->Setup menu. It is important that you
set the port you want the Networked Bookmarks server to use to a port that is
not used by any other service. Once you have the server settings entered, as
you want them to be, start your server to allow incoming client connections. You have now completed the first half of setting up Networked Bookmarks.

==-Setting up the Clients-==

The second part of setting up Networked Bookmarks is to setup the Networked
Bookmarks clients, the computers that may retrieve or add keywords to the
Networked Bookmarks database. Locate the file named nbc150.zip that was
included in the same archive as this readme file was. Once you have found
nbc150.zip, unzip it into a temporary directory which is accessible by the
computer that you want to install the client on. After you have the contents
of nbc150.zip unzipped, run the program 'Setup'. Setup will start an
installation wizard that will allow you to specify where you want the client
to be installed. After the wizard completes the setup, start the Networked
Bookmarks Client ( Default: Start-->ProgramsNetworked Bookmarks Client).
Note: Networked Bookmarks will load automatically each time Windows starts.
Now you must SETUP the client. Please note the icon which looks like a book
down in your system tray (the area by the Windows clock, usually found in the
lower right hand corner of the display), RIGHT click on the book icon and
select setup. Inside the setup menu, you must enter either the IP Address of
the Networked Bookmarks Server (the one we setup a few minutes ago), and/or
the hostname of that server, and the port which the client should use to
communicate with the server. (This must be the same port that the server is
set to listen on.) After you have entered your settings, close the setup box
to put your new settings into effect. You're done! You can now lookup and
add keywords by LEFT clicking on the icon in the tray.

Please Note: Networked Bookmarks is being distributed under the shareware
concept. This means that you can have the Networked Bookmarks Server and
Client resident on your network, hard disk, or some other form of media for
up to 30 days after the installation date. If after the 30 days described
above, you choose to continue using the software, you must license the
above-mentioned client. (See section 4: Licensing). If you choose not to
continue using Networked Bookmarks Client and or server, you must cease use
of the mentioned client and server, and remove it from your data storage
media(s). When removing the client or server, please make use of the
uninstall feature which can be activated under the control panel from the
install/uninstall feature.

3. Troubleshooting
    ---------------

Question: I receive an error stating "No Address Specified".
What did I do wrong?

Answer: You need to enter an IP Address and or Host name in the setup of the
client. Close any windows connected to the Networked Bookmarks client, then
do a RIGHT click on the "world" icon in the tray and select Setup. Complete
the needed fields.

Question: I receive a Windows socket error 10061. What is wrong?
Answer: The client is unable to connect to the server you have specified
based on the information you have provided in the setup menu. Verify that
you have specified the correct IP address/Host name of the SERVER you are
trying to connect to, and that that the port you have selected for use in
the client, matches that of the one in the server configuration. Verify
that the server is in an online mode, waiting for connections. Make sure
that the computer you use as the server is assigned a static (non-changing)
IP Address or host name. If you do not have a static address for the server,
you will be required to change the settings in all of the clients each time
the Server is assigned a new address.

4. Licensing
    ---------
Networked Bookmarks is licensed, based on how many computers have the
Networked Bookmarks Client software installed on them. You must purchase 1
(one) client for each computer that connects to the Networked Bookmarks
server. You are licensed to use the server after you purchase 1 (one) or
more copies of the client.

To license the software:

Electronically Print (or neatly PRINT by hand) the contents of the
file purchase.txt. Complete the form and send it to:
