1. The purpose of ID3Tagger

ID3Tagger allows viewing and modifying ID3 tag information in MP3 files. Main features include easy drag-n-drop operations, "First Last" Artist name toggling and Compression display. DJs and dancers can set extended Genres and Tempo information (e.g. Waltz and T90). This extended information is viewable to everyone and usable by other Dedicated DJ products.

5. Note (ID3 technical info)

Most ID3 fields are 30 characters maximum. Exceptions are the Year field with 4 digits (e.g. 2000) and the Genre field, which is unfortunately allowed only a single character. Since a single character can be decoded into up to 256 combinations this may not seem too bad but many of the available combinations (lower 128) have been pre-assigned and of little value to many peoples collections. ID3 Tagger allows any possible Genre assignment (as a number from 0 to 255) but presents a drop down box loaded with real dance genre from number 196 on. These dance genres are not part of any current specification but can be useful to DJs and dancers. Hopefully new ID3 specifications will expand this important Genre field to additional characters.
