4. WINDOWS 95

WineBase v3.4 appears to run very well on Windows 95

5. INSTALLING WINEBASE

To install WineBase run the DECANT.EXE program from within Windows.

Quickest way is...

1. Fire up File Manager
2. Log onto the drive containing the WineBase disk (A: or B:).
3. Double click on DECANT.EXE

DECANT now creates a Group called "Almost Vertical Software".
If you have a "WineBase for Windows" group, please delete it.

6. NEW FILE FORMAT

From version 2.9 of WineBase a new file format with longer field
lengths was used. If you are using a version prior to v2.9, the
program will update your data files for you. Although I haven't
heard of a single person loosing any data in this process, you
may wish to backup your data files before running v3.1

a) IF UPDATING FROM AN OLDER VERSION

v3.1 must be installed on top of your present files (ie Into the
same directory that WineBase is currently installed).

Do not delete any files (other than BMP's) from the WineBase
directory before running this version (THIS IS CRITICAL).

b) TRYING TO USE AN EVALUATION VERSION TO UPDATE YOUR EARLIER
   REGISTERED VERSION

You cannot use an Evaluation copy of WineBase to update your
Registered v3.1 or earlier copy of WineBase. Trying to do so
will result in corruption of data files, and a program that
will not work.

7. MAPS

A new format for the maps has been introduced, so if you are
upgrading an old version of WineBase, please delete all files
ending in .BMP from the WineBase directory BEFORE installing
this version.

8. ARCHIVES

If you have downloaded WineBase from a BBS, you will need to
copy the Archive to a temporary directory, expand it there,
and run DECANT from there as well.

You cannot install WineBase in the same directory that contains
the archived files.

So don't create a directory called WINEBASE, copy the archive
there, expand it and then try and run DECANT, because it will
not let you.

9. OS/2

As DECANT needs to drop out of Windows and fire up a DOS Window,
if you are using OS/2 WIN, make sure that OS/2 can do this
before running DECANT (as it may hang if you don't).
