Note: Because of time and disk space restrictions, we do
not manually e-mail copies of the source or execu-

KENDRA ELECTRONIC WONDERWORKS, and under certain
conditions may contain test releases not available
on other systems. It will always have the most
          up-to-date copy these retrieval instructions.

FTP programs vary from system to system. Contact your local system

KENDRA ELECTRONIC WONDERWORKS' Automated E-Mail Service

KENDRA ELECTRONIC WONDERWORKS maintains a automated mail server for
maintaining the various mailing lists related to UUPC/extended and for
sending out files. Send a mail message containing the commands
"index" and/or "help", one command per line, in the body of the message
to listserv@kew.com for the current file list and/or instructions.

Note: To send binary files through the mail, the server
automatically encodes binary files using the pro-
gram UUENCODE. You will require a copy of the
companion utility UUDECODE, which is standard on
most UNIX systems and available for DOS, to con-
vert the files back to binary.

Note: The latest copy of this document can also be re-
trieved via electronic mail by sending a message
with a body of "get howtoget.txt" to list-
          serv@kew.com.

Clarkson University Bulletin Board

The Clarkson University Bulletin Board is reached 24 hours a day at
(315)268-6667, 8N1, 1200/2400 BPS. Follow the instructions after
logon to download files.

Anonymous Kermit

Anonymous Kermit support was dropped in May 1982 when kewgate was
converted from DOS to OS/2, as sharing the serial port between UUCICO
and C-Kermit for OS/2 was not possible. While this is now possible with
the current versions of UUCICO and C-Kermit, C-Kermit's server mode does
not timeout, detect lost modem carrier or otherwise allow dislodging a
hung phone call. If/when C-Kermit can be used without fear of hanging
the serial port, the Kermit anonymous service will be again be made
public.

Note: If you have no other way to download UUPC/extended
and have Kermit, please contact KENDRA ELECTRONIC
WONDERWORKS to see if the service can be enabled
for you. However, please use another method (such
          as the Listserv) instead.

Anonymous UUCP

The UUPC/extended files are archived in the directory "~nuucp" on
kewgate and can be downloaded via anonymous UUCP. To use anonymous
UUCP, define entries for the system kewgate in your SYSTEMS file and
PERMISSN file. The SYSTEMS file entry should define the phone number
as 617-279-9816, the user id as "nuucp", and the password as "nuucp".
kewgate uses a Zoom Telephonics V.32bis modem, so connect speed may be
up to 14400 baud, depending on your modem. kewgate presently accepts
anonymous UUCP phone calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for
interruptions for system maintenance. We reserve the right to change
these hours without notice.

Note: The sample systems file in the documentation ar-
chive includes an entry for kewgate.

Note: You cannot send mail or files to kewgate via the
anonymous dial-in. Send mail to help@kew.com, our
          normal e-mail support address.

The files are located in the home directory for nuucp, so files should
be requested via the UUCP command with the syntax ~nuucp/filename. For
example, to retrieve the index for the archive to your local public
directory, issue the command:

UUPC/extended 1.12p Installation and User Reference

     UUCP kewgate!~nuucp/index /uupc/public

Note: Effective with release 1.12e of UUPC/extended, the
directory you download files to via the UUCP com-
mand must have write access enabled for it in the
          PERMISSN file.

The UUCICO program must then be invoked to actually process the request.
Users should retrieve the file index first, and then issue additional
requests for the actual files wanted based on the current directory
listing.

CompuServe

The archives are loaded to CompuServe's UNIX Forum (GO CIS:UNIXFORUM).
The files can be searched for within the forum using the keyword UUPC.
As not every release is loaded to CompuServe, contact the UUPC/extended
Help desk (from CompuServe, >Internet: help@kew.com) before download-
ing files from CIS which are more than two months old.

Because of CompuServe's six character limit on file names, the files
uploaded to CompuServe do not follow the normal UUPC/extended naming
convention described below. Rather, the files are named UPCXX.nnn,
where 'XX' is the archive suffix as described below and 'nnn' is the
version number. Files should be downloaded as upc12p?.ZIP to restore
their normal DOS names.

Registering Your Current Copy

To receive a copy of the next major release when it becomes available,
register your current copy according to the instructions in How to
Register, page 239. You can also order the current release from us
using the form in How to Register.

About the Files

You will need version 2.04g or later of PKUNZIP or version 5.0P1 of the
public domain UNZIP utility to unpack the file archives. PKUNZIP and/or
UNZIP is available at most of the same places as UUPC/extended,
including the KENDRA ELECTRONIC WONDERWORKS listserver.

The available files are listed in Table 27 - Manifest of
Files Available for Download.

generally an abridged version of the current
CHANGES.PRN file included in the documentation
archive. This file is not created if the current
release has limited changes. For all releases,
CHANGES.PRN is the definitive summary of
changes. (Only available on kewgate and various
              Clarkson systems)

    Note: MS-DOS users will want upc12pd1.zip, upc12pd2.zip,
          upc12pd3.zip, and upc12pad.zip.

Note: Windows 3.x users will want all the files for DOS,

Note: Windows NT users will want upc12pn1.zip,
          upc12pn2.zip, upc12pn3.zip, and upc12pad.zip.

The files names change with each release to include the current release
number in the file name. For example, the source archive for version
1.24b would be upc24bs1.zip.

From time to time, test releases are loaded to kewgate and/or the
various Clarkson systems. These releases are placed in a sub-directory
on the Clarkson file server and in the same directory as the production
directory on kewgate.

Formatted Documentation Archive Contents

The documentation archive includes the formatted documents describing
UUPC/extended (*.PRN), sample configuration files, and supplemental
information files (*.INF).

PostScript Archive Contents

The PostScript archive contains documents describing UUPC/extended that
have been formatted for printing on a PostScript printer.

UUPC/extended 1.12p Installation and User Reference

Program Archive 1 of 3

The first program archive (upc12pd1.zip, upc12pw1.zip, upc12p11.zip,
upc12p21.zip and upc12pn1.zip) includes programs which are mandatory
for most, if not all, installations.

Program Archive 2 of 3

The second program archive (upc12pd2.zip, upc12pw2.zip, upc12p12.zip,
upc12p22.zip and upc12pn2.zip) includes files which, though highly
recommended, are not required.

Program Archive 3 of 3

The third program archive (upc12pd3.zip, upc12p13.zip, upc12p23.zip, and
upc12pn3.zip) includes optional programs, mostly associated with news
processing.

Note: There is no third program archive (upc12pw3.zip)
for the Windows 3.x environment. The first two
archives may claim to 1 of 3 and 2 of 3, but they
          lie.

Source Archives

The source archives include all of the files needed to build
UUPC/extended under DOS using Borland C++ 3.1. The program can also be
built under DOS or OS/2 using Microsoft C 6.0, under OS/2 with BC++ for
OS/2 1.0, and under Windows NT with the Microsoft SDK or Visual C++.
Microsoft Macro Assembler is required if building the DOS modules with
the Microsoft C compiler.

Note: The upc12ps?.zip files should be PKUNZIPed with
the unpack directory (-d) option. This option is
          the default with UNZIP.

Unformatted Documentation Archive

The unformatted documentation archive includes all of the Word for
Windows (2.0) files and templates used to create the formatted documents
in the regular documentation archive.
