Description : My first Metal level (sixth Quake map). I tried

to add some unique architecture to this map

(a good example of this would be the teleporters)

to this map to make it a bit different from

the other maps out there. I've again combined

two themes together in this level. This time

I haven't used Wizard textures, but I have

used some Base textures in this map to make

the second part of the map a bit different

(...a lot different) from the first one.

* Play Information *

Single Player : Yes

Cooperative : No (I don't know who the hell even

                               plays cooperative... :)

Deathmatch : No (NO!!! This can't be happening!!

                               I'm VERY sorry because I didn't

add any DM starts to the map.

I did this because the level just

wouldn't work with DM since it's

a two part map. Please try to

                               understand. :)

Difficulty Settings : Yes (The map should be more challenging

this time. Easy is still *very* easy,

but especially Normal and Hard skill

levels should be a LOT more challenging.

If it's not challenging enough, try it

                               on Nightmare.)

New Sounds : No

New Graphics : No (I was thinking about creating some new

graphics but never quite got to doing

                               that, so... :)

New Music : No

CD Track : 6 (Quake-CD, make sure it's in your CD-

                               driver before starting the game!)

                              (Scourge of Armagon CD strongly

                               recommended!)

Demos Replaced : None

* The Story *

The mysterious base known as Area 51 has been doing some research on Aliens,

a life form which is very advanced and their technology can't be understood

by humans for over 1000 years. On a cold, winter night something very strange

happened in the base. No one noticed anything unusual until it was too late,

the Planet Earth couldn't be saved anymore. The Aliens had conquered and

destroyed all the life from the whole planet. There were no survivors...

Hell had taken over. The green fields of Earth were now nothing but dust.

Everything had been burnt, all the forests included. Oxygen was running out.

All the animals had been killed. The sky was still blue, but the shield of

the Aliens that would soon cover the whole Planet Earth would turn it into

red in seconds. The air was hot, so hot that if anyone or anything had

survived it would die in a matter of few minutes. Everything had been

destroyed, or had it? Deep in the base in the middle of the dead bodies

something began to move. What was it? The few human beings who had survived

through Hell were regaining consciousness. In that bunch of people was

a brave fighter who was not afraid.

For that brave fighter who had dealt with these kind of situations before

this was nothing new. He was not afraid of the Aliens, he knew he was the

Planet Earth's only hope. You are that brave fighter now - it's your job to

kick the major Alien butt for good! But remember, you've only got one chance.

If you succeed, you'll do the biggest favor to the mankind ever and you'll be

remember as the person who once saved the whole Planet Earth from destruction.

But if you fail, the few human beings who had survived... they will also die.

So, knowing that you are now their and the Planet Earth's only hope you load

your weapons. Feeling the adrenaline pumping in your veins you walk through

the doorway. The blue heavy metallic door closes behind you, there's no

turning back anymore... now it's in your hands. Go and get 'em!

Good luck! You will need it.

* How to play this map *

Just unzip area51.zip to quake\id1\maps directory (create, if necessary).

Then launch Quake, go to the console and type:

map area51

Or start up Quake with the following command:

quake +map area51

Have fun!

*************************** IMPORTANT!!!! ********************************

The map might slow down when going through the larger rooms (some of the

textures might turn into grey when you're in the warehouse, sorry), so I

strongly recommend you to use the -winmem16 parameter at the end of the

command line like this:

quake -winmem16

* Other Info *

Hi there again! Ok, I hope you've now read the "Story" section so we can get

started here. First of all I guess you've all wondered why it took me so long

to build a new map, well partly because I've been working on my homepage for

quite a while during the building of this map and also because this map was

originally meant to be a part of a project, but the project unfortunately out

of some reason wasn't completed at all. :( Also I ran out of inspiration

quite a few times while I was building this map, so I guess that had it's

own effect also.

I'd really love to have mail from ANYONE who played this map. Let me know

what you really think about the level and that means your honest opinion

about it. If you don't like it, let me know what part of the map you didn't

like or then if you liked it, let me know what part of the map you... well...

liked. :) Let the feedback be constructive or critical - whatever you have

in mind just feel free to write about it as long as it's about the map. :)

Thank You.

* Where to get this map *

When you are reading this you should already have it, but if out of

some very, VERY strange reason you don't, get it from:

www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/1052

Or from:

ftp.cdrom.com

All my other maps are also available from those both sites, so make

sure you check 'em out too. :)
