INFO - MAP REQUIRES REG. QUAKE V.1.01 OR HIGHER, FOR DOS/WIN95

================================================================

PLEASE UPDATE THIS ARCHIVE! This is a new, enhanced version of my, now almost classic,

Quake map, "Altar of Pain", originally released September 6th 1996. This new version

includes DEATHMATCH starting points (7), and is therefore now capable of being used in

a multiplayer game. Several entities are added especially for DM mode.

Also, many textures are aligned properly, and the key and rune doors now opens

with one part sliding to each side (the original map had the doors just sliding

to right or left). Other fixes were also made, making the "Altar of Pain" experience

even greater than it was (if I may say so). See technical details added below.

Title : Altar of Pain

Filename : tef_aop.bsp

Author : T. H. Johansen (TJ)

Email Address : torjoh@alfa.avh.unit.no

Description : A fairly large Quake map designed with single play in

mind, including 60 monsters and an exit, but no difficulty settings.

If playing with the Quake CD in drive, the level will be playing track

			no. 5.

The original story for this level was the following:

The Interdimensional Intelligence Agency (IIA) has got information

that an evil and devastating ceremony is about to take place

in what is whispered to be the "Altar of Pain", a demonic chapel where

hideous Shamblers are said to rule. Somebody has to stop the ceremony

from being fullfilled, or else the world is doomed to be ruled by

dark and evil forces for all eternity. But to get there will take

a strong effort, the IIA has realized.

Therefore, having saved the world once, the IIA has called upon you to take

the task to penetrate these Shamblers' stronghold and get to their chapel

before it's too late. The IIA transports you through their only remaining slipgate,

and you find yourself in a dark and gloomy basement. Getting your dark

vision quickly tuned in, the first thing you spot is enemy soldiers and

their rottweilers. OK, you're alone, it's pretty dark, but you know that you're

not going to disappoint the IIA or yourself. Firmly you pump some lead into

that old thrustworthy shotgun of yours and get on with it...

do what we want with it.

Known Bugs : This map is fully vised and should run quite perfectly.

This level should be quite challenging (in certain places...)

and will take approx. 20-25 minutes to complete (without cheating!).

Cheating is NOT necessary and will ruin this level

since it's designed specifically for single play!.

* Legal Stuff *

You may distribute this level and include it in any compilation

etc., as long as you include my text file and give me credit. FOR VERSION OF

NOV. 22nd: You may NOT use this map as a base for other levels. Since I've put so

much new effort into this level, I decided to not having anyone tamper with it. The

.map file is therefore not released this time.

*Other notes*

To load the map: Put the .bsp file in your /quake/id1/maps directory, and type at the

DOS prompt: quake +map tef_aop. To run deathmatch on this level, type at the DOS prompt

(in Win95):

q95 +deathmatch 1 +map tef_aop -listen

OR use the menu inside Quake to set up a multiplayer game. Enjoy!

The exit in this new version will take you to a map called "tef_sc.bsp", which at this

moment isn't released by me, yet. But it WILL be quite soon, so watch out for my

forthcoming double-packed archive, containing my latest levels "Spawn City"

and "Water World". COMING SOON!
