2. INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for taking the time to look at Printer's Apprentice 7.5,
the best font manager around. This file contains information about
the software, pricing and technical support. Instructions for quickly
installing Printer's Apprentice are also included. The software
manual is contained in an online help file (pa.hlp).
Printer's Apprentice is a comprehensive, 32 bit font manager for
Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000 and XP.
We have designed it to be the best Windows font manager available
today. With this software you can examine your TrueType and ATM
font collection, print a variety of elegant font sample sheets and
catalogs and install/uninstall fonts. Printer's Apprentice supports
TrueType, OpenType and Adobe Type 1 formats.
Printer's Apprentice really shines when used with uninstalled fonts
located on CD-ROMs or disks. You can preview uninstalled fonts with a
few mouse clicks. Printer's Apprentice can also print ultra-sharp
catalog listings from CDs without installing a single font.
Printer's Apprentice 7.5 also adds font grouping to its list of award
winning features. Now you have the ability to create groups of
TrueType, OpenType and ATM fonts that can be installed or uninstalled
with a few mouse clicks!
If you have been looking for advanced font printing and management,
Printer's Apprentice is for you!
Please take the time to look at the software. If you do any work
with desktop publishing or use many fonts with your PC, we think you
will find Printer's Apprentice to be an invaluable utility.
REMEMBER - This software is shareware! If you like it, please see the
order information in this file or in the help system.
3. WHAT'S NEW IN 7.5?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The main new feature in 7.5 is 100% full support for Type 1 and
OpenType fonts. Previous versions could only print installed
TrueType files.

The latest, most detailed list of changes can be found in the
changes.txt file that ships with Printer's Apprentice.

- Added support for viewing and printing installed and uninstalled
  OpenType (OTF) *.

- Added support for viewing and printing installed and uninstalled
  Adobe Type 1 fonts *.

- OpenType and Type 1 fonts can now be installed, uninstalled and managed
  using the font grouping tools in Printer's Apprentice. *

- Many dialog boxes have cleaner, updated user interfaces.

- The Font Install and Uninstall dialog boxes are now resizable. This make
  it easier to view the details about registry changes.

- The Print and Print Font Group dialog boxes are now resizable
  and show you a list of what fonts will be printed.

- Many operations create log files in the
  Printer's Apprentice\log folder. Log files are created if the
  "Create log files" option is selected in the Options dialog box.

* These features are only available with Windows NT, 2000 and XP.

4. HOW TO UPGRADE AND OBTAIN A NEW REGISTRATION CODE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Printer's Apprentice 7.5 is a free upgrade for users of Printer's
Apprentice 7.0 and above.
However, the registration codes for older versions will not work.
You will need to obtain a new registration code directly from the
author using the following URL -
http://www.loseyourmind.com/regcoderequest.asp
Or you can send an email directly to the author at
helpdesk@loseyourmind.com.
Please include your full name, your company name (if applicable),
your current email address and any other email addresses that might
have been used when you registered Printer's Apprentice.
Thank you for your patience.
5. A MESSAGE FOR USERS OF PRINTER'S APPRENTICE 6.5 AND EARLIER VERSIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two issues have come up that have convinced us it is time to change
our upgrade policies.

First, the Internet is both good and bad. On more than one occasion our
technical support people have spoken with individuals who mentioned that
codes for commercial and shareware packages are available on hacker Web
sites. Both large and small software companies cannot afford to be
ripped off by these people.

Second, for many years Lose Your Mind Development had a policy of
unlimited upgrades. As long as you had the registration code, you could
continue to download upgrades and disable the nag screens. Ordering new
diskettes and manuals was optional. The Windows 95 version took over a
year to develop and test. It was close to a 100% rewrite of old code.
Without upgrade revenue, we will not be able to support this product or
continue future development.

What does this mean to you?
1) Is this the first time you have used Printer's Apprentice? Then we
   hope you enjoy the software and do consider registering this
   program.

2) If you purchased 7.0 or upgraded to 7.0 via one of our mailings, then
   you are entitled to a free upgrade to version 7.5.

3) If you are a registered user of 6.5 or previous versions, then you
   will notice that the registration code does not work. We hope that
   you will help support this product.

   The Upgrade Package costs $12.00 You can order by sending a check payable to

   Lose Your Mind Development
   P.O. Box 184
   Berwyn, PA 19312-0184

   Or, email helpdesk@loseyourmind.com for information on ordering the
   upgrade package online.

   Upon receipt of your check or payment, we will email you a new
   registration code, so please include an email address.

   Your name will be checked against a database of registered users!
   So please don't order at this price unless you purchased a
   previous version.

So, if you are a registered user of a pre-7.0 version of PA, and you want to
use the 7.5 version, you need to upgrade. We want to be able to provide
you with more high quality software in the future.

We are sure many of you are now wondering what the future upgrade policy
will be. Simply, minor upgrades will always be free. We owe it to the
users to fix bugs, etc. Major upgrades of the software will most likely
have a fee. If you have any questions about this change in our upgrade
policy, please don't hesitate to email us at salesinfo@loseyourmind.com.

6. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP. We recommend at least a

7. HOW TO INSTALL AND UNINSTALL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You do not have to uninstall previous versions of Printer's Apprentice
to install this version.
This version can be installed in to the same folder as a previous
version. It will overwrite the old version.
If upgrading, you will need to re-enter your registration code, so plesae
have that handy.
        To install Printer's Apprentice
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        1. Create a temporary directory and unzip the distribution
           .ZIP file to that directory.
        2. Double click the SETUP.EXE icon found in that temporary
           directory. This program will install Printer's Apprentice on
           your computer.
        3. After you have installed Printer's Apprentice, you can delete
           the temporary directory and the SETUP.EXE file.
        4. We recommend placing the distribution .ZIP file on a backup
           floppy in case you need to reinstall Printer's Apprentice.

After Printers' Apprentice is installed, run the software by choosing the
Printer's Aprentice icon on the Start menu.
