Aylott Computing's Clipart Listing Macro (LISTCLIP) for MS Word

Version 1.2

Introduction:

This MS Word macro produces a catalogue of your graphics files.
Multiple thumbnail pictures are listed on each page allowing a
compact record of all your picture files to be kept for reference.

This application has been released as Shareware - you are welcome to try
it out free of charge for a period of 30 days. If you find it useful
please pay the author as detailed below otherwise you are required to
delete it from your PC. Your support will make it possible to produce
updates and additional Windows applications.

You are encouraged to pass this application on to friends and colleagues
but please keep it in it's original format and with all files included
in the package.

Installation:

Copy the ListClip.Dot file into your Templates Directory, eg:

WINWORD\TEMPLATE for Windows 3.x,
MSOFFICE\TEMPLATES for Office 95
MICROSOFT OFFICE\TEMPLATES for Office 97

To produce thumbnails of your Clipart:

*  Start MS Word
* Select File / New from the menu
* Choose the ListClip template and select OK

The macro starts automatically and a dialog box will appear. The files
in the default Picture-Path are displayed initially and you can change
to other directories by double clicking the required directory.

To change to another drive, move up the directory structure by double
clicking on the [..] until you reach the 'root' of the current drive.
Double click on it again and you will see a list of drives from
A:\ to Z:\ - if you choose an invalid drive, you will hear a beep.
(Thanks to Jim Fogg for requesting this enhancement from v1.0)

When you have located the graphics files you wish to catalogue, select
the OK button (or double click on any of the files).

When the files in your chosen directory have been displayed in Word, the
dialog box will return allowing you to choose other directories.
Additional pages will be added to the Word document for each directory.

When you have finished, press the Cancel button or hit the Escape key to
finish the process. You can then save and/or print the resulting
document and can even amend it if required.

NOTES:

If you choose OK from the dialog box and no files exist in that directory,
you will hear a beep.

An option exists in the dialog box to create a border around each picture.
Uncheck this box if you do not want a border.

An option exists in the dialog box to link to the graphics files
instead of embedding them into the Word document. If you check this box,
the resulting document will be much smaller when saved to disk as the
graphic data is not stored in it. The disadvantage is that refreshing
the screen display is much slower as each file must be read from disk.
The choice is yours - speed or space. If you just want to print the
thumbnails and don't want to save the Word document do not link to
the graphics files.

As the graphics files are imported, you may see a dialog box appear
with the title 'Convert File' and a list of graphics filetypes displayed.
This happens if the filetype is not recognised by Word (eg the import
filter is either not available or not installed or the file is not a
graphics file). It is best to press the Cancel button or hit the
Escape key when this dialog appears because if the wrong import
filter is used, the word document display may become corrupted. An empty
'place holder' will appear if the graphic format is not recognised.

All relevant graphics import filters must be installed for this macro to
work successfully. If you wish to install additional import filters, run
the MS Word or MS Office setup program again and choose the appropriate
graphics converters. Additional converters may be available from Microsoft.

This macro has been designed to work with both letter size paper and A4.
The default page size in LISTCLIP.DOT is Letter Size, 8" x 11".
To change this settings, produce your thumbnail listing as normal
(see above) or press Cancel when the dialog box appears. Now change the
page size to suit (File / Page Setup) and press the Default button. You
will be asked to confirm the changes for all new documents based on the
LISTCLIP template. Select Yes to this and your new settings will be saved
permanently. When you close Word you may be prompted to save LISTCLIP.DOT
 - select yes to this prompt.

The shareware evaluation version prints 50% of the files in each directory
up to a maximum of 40. The registered version lists ALL your graphics files.

MS Word 97 Update:

This macro has been verified to work correctly with MS Word 97. The default
installation directory is 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates'.
When the macro is first run, it is automatically converted to the new macro
format for Word 97 (VBA).

When you close the document you will receive the following message:
'Do you want to save the changes you made to LISTCLIP?'
Select 'Yes' and you will be given the option of Overwriting the original
template or creating a New File. If you wish to use this macro with previous
versions of MS Word, you should save it to a new file (eg ListClip97)
otherwise you can overwrite the original LISTCLIP template.
