Bill Reid's HTML Pix 1.3 for Windows95
Copyright Bill Reid, December 1996, May 1997
breid@ebicom.net

Function Summary:

HTML Pix is yet another application that creates a HTML index of a folder of
images, offering the user a convenient method of generating thumbnail contact
sheets. The thumbnails can be reduced to your choice of sizes and provides a
hyperlink to the actual file.

Updates since last version:

Recompilation to solve a common dialog compatibility problem. New user interface.

Description:

There must be a hundred of these things out there, but to date I haven't been able
to find a freeware one that offers proper configurability. So I made this.

Select your options and press go. You will be prompted for a directory and the
resulting HTML index file will be written to that directory. A little further info
on the Options available:

Image Display: Specify a size for the thumbnails and the pictures in this directory
will be displayed at this size. Leaving this unchecked sticks the pictures in there
at full size - not a good idea if they include any large images.

Filetypes to Include: Click on a specified type to include it. If you wish, you can
check "Other files" and fill in your own fully DOS-compatible wildcards. You can specify
multiple wildcards by seperating them with a semicolon (no space). For example, to include
files with the extension RLE, PNG and all files beginning with "B":

	*.rle;*.png;B*.*

Background and Text color: Choose these colors from the standard Windows dialog. The
current HEX value appears in parentheses in the description when you select one. The
(default) indicator means no color will be specified - your browser's defaults will be
utilized. To get the (default) tag back, open the color dialog and press "Cancel".

Background Picture: Select a GIF or JPG to serve as the page background. This file path
is hard-coded to the directory you select, so there's no need to copy this picture to the
folder you're generating the index for.

Table Dimensions: This specifies how many pictures you want on a row before it splits to
the next one. The actual number of rows will be however many it takes to display all the
specified images - extra spaces will be empty.

Border Width: Specify if you want the table generated to have borders and how thick they
should be.

Center Table on Form: Specify whether the form should be centered or just left to the
browser's design.

Show Filenames: Add each image's filename immediately under the thumbnail displayed.

Other than those issues, it's pretty much run & go.

Requirements:

The Visual Basic 5.0 Runtime files and COMDLG32.OCX, not included in this archive due to
space limitations. You can locate these files through any of the major Windows95 shareware/
freeware sites or Carl & Gary's VB Site. And although not required, high color or better
is suggested for the user interface.

Licence:

Bill Reid's HTML Pix is offered as freeware to non-profits and individuals. This means
that although I retain the copyright to this program, you are free to use and distribute
it without making payment of any sort to me - IF you are using the product to support a
non-profit organization or if you are using it for personal noncommercial products. In
other words, if you're trying to make money with it, you owe me some. You can acquire a
single license for $5 US funds or negotiate a reasonable site license for an organization.
Please contact the author for payment options via e-mail at the address above.

In either scenario, you are not licensed to resell the product by itself or as part of a
larger package. CD-ROM distributors should contact the author for permission to redistribute
in a commercial situation. Unauthorized distribution is a violation of applicable laws.

I would appreciate your comments by email. Email is cheap enough that it won't inconvenience
you and I'd just like to know how many people actually got some use out of this program.

The latest version of this application is always available at Bill's Shareware/Freeware
Dumpsite, which is currently located at http://www.ebicom.net/~breid/pfd.htm. If for some
reason you can't find this page (meaning I've moved), do a search for the title at a major
search site - I will keep this page active as long as I have the means to do so.

Support Policy:

As I receive no payment for this program, I guarantee no support of any kind. You may send
questions via email, and I will attempt to answer them at my leisure, but use of this program
in no way guarantees technical support of any kind. Registered users will receive technical
support to the best of my ability, but even this support will be limited to what I feel is
adequate and fair. I have a real job, y'know. :)

Disclaimer:

I do not guarantee (expressly or implied) that this program is suitable for
your use or free from bugs. Every effort has been made to properly test it
for my own use, but this is not to be seen as a statement of quality. You
use this program at your own risk; I will not be held responsible for any
losses incurred as a direct or indirect result of using this program.

As a further note, I readily admit that there are certain known bugs that have
not been worked out due to the author's own laziness. The program may crash if
you enter a character value when the field asks for a numeric one. Be forewarned.
