Installing HandyNotes
=====================

Installing HandyNotes is as easy as using it. Just unzip the HNDNOTES.ZIP
file to a temporary directory and double-click on the SETUP.EXE file.
Then, just follow the instructions.

If you want to uninstall HandyNotes, open the Control Panel and choose
Add/Remove Programs. Then click on HandyNotes, and press the Add/Remove
button. That's it!

Please read the following only if you have not downloaded the Full Install
ZIP:
If you downloaded either of the ZIPs with no DLLs, you need to have the following files
on your WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory:
	- CTL3D32.DLL
	- MSVCRT20.DLL
	- MSVCRT40.DLL
	- OLEPRO32.DLL
	- VB40032.DL
	- VEN2232.OLB

If you don't have these files, please install the Full ZIP. These files
are needed to run any Visual Basic 4.0 program.

Upgrading from QuickNotes 1.31 or below
---------------------------------------
If you have used a previous version of this program (it used to be called
QuickNotes), please read the following. If you didn't, you can safely
ignore this part.

Since HandyNotes saves the notes in a file HNDNOTES.TXT, when you install
it and start it it will not have your old notes. Do not despair! All you
have to do is:
- Find the file QCKNOTES.TXT (it should be in C:\Program Files\QuickNotes)
and make it a copy of it for backup puposes.

- Make sure HandyNotes is *not* running.

- Copy the QCKNOTES.TXT file to the C:\Program Files\HandyNotes directory.

- Rename the QCKNOTES.TXT file to HNDNOTES.TXT

- Re-open HandyNotes. Your old notes should now appear!

Using HandyNotes
================

Using HandyNotes is easy!
When you want to write anything down quick, just follow these simple steps:

- Click on the HandyNotes tray icon to open HandyNotes (next to the clock)
Or, choose HandyNotes from the taskbar,
Or, press the HandyNotes Hotkey to bring it up (see below).
- Press the New button, or Ctrl-N
- Type in the text
- Press the Save All button, or Ctrl-S

Finding notes:
You can now search your notes for text! To do so, choose Find from the
HandyNotes menu (the one with the little HandyNotes icon) or press Ctrl-F.
You can search the current note or all the notes.

HandyNotes now has many options that you can customize to your liking.
To select your options, choose Options in the HandyNotes menu.

What do the options mean:

- Ask for confirmation before: HandyNotes will show a confirmation
message before deleting, printing or closing.

- Autosave notes: HandyNotes will automatically save any changes
(including deletion of notes) according to the options set.

- Always on top: HandyNotes will remain on top of any other windows on the
desktop. This can also be toggled from the HandyNotes window with the
button.

- Start minimized: HandyNotes will start minimized when ran.

- Minimize on close: if this option is checked, pressing the x button on
the HandyNotes window will minimize it, not close it.

- Show in system tray/taskbar: you can choose whether to show
HandyNotes only in the system tray (next to the clock), on the taskbar,
or both.

- Use hotkey to bring window up: if checked, you can bring up the
HandyNotes window from any program by pressing the selected hotkey.

- Change font & colors: click here to select

- Sort notes: this will sort the notes by alphabetical order.

Know Issues
===========

- Each note is restricted to 32KB of text only.

Although I've tried my best to avoid them, HandyNotes may have some
'undocumented security features' (to be read "bugs") that I am not
aware of. If this is so, please contact me and tell me the problem.
If HandyNotes crashes, it will create a HNDNOTES.LOG file in itss
directory. This is very useful for me to determine what the bug was,
so please attach it to your message.
