Sleepy 1.0 (c) 1998 Alex Benenson

System Requirements
-------------------

Windows 95 or Windows 98 (sorry, Sleepy doesn't work on Windows NT)

What does it do?
----------------

If you find yourself staying online or playing games far past your
bedtime, Sleepy will break you of that habit (or at least interfere
with it), by forcing Windows to shut down at a specific time
every night (except weekends).

When Windows starts you get 10 seconds to disable Sleepy; after
that it's going to shut down no matter what -- Sleepy doesn't appear
in the Close Program box (which you can see if you press Ctrl-Alt-Del).

Sleepy will warn you 5 Minutes before shutdown, so you have a chance
to save any documents, games in progress, and such.

By default, Sleepy shuts down your system at 11PM (except on Friday
and Saturday nights). You can change it to shut down at a different
time, but it will always skip the shutdown on Fridays and Saturdays,
regardless of the shutdown time you specify.

How do I set it up?
-------------------

This is freeware, so there's no fancy install program. Copy sleepy.exe
to somewhere on your hard drive, and create a shortcut to it in the
Startup menu (which is inside the Programs menu which is inside
the Start menu).

From then on, when Windows starts up, Sleepy will show the shutdown
time and give you 10 seconds to cancel it for that session. If you
don't cancel, you'll get a warning 5 minutes before shutdown, and then
shutdown will occur at the specified time.

Once Sleepy is running, you won't see any distracting little icons
or windows until your 5-minute warning.

How do I change the shut down time?
-----------------------------------

If you want Sleepy to shut down at a time other than 11PM, do the
following:

- Right-click on the Sleepy shortcut you created and choose
  Properties.

- Add the shutdown time you want at the end of the Target text.
The time can include AM or PM, can be in 24 hour format, and can
specify minutes past the hour; for instance "10 PM", "8:30" and
"19:15" are all valid times (but don't include the quotes).
Make sure that you leave the text that was originally in the Target
box as-is, and put a space between it and the time you enter.

Will it screw up?
-----------------

Use Sleepy at your own risk. I cannot guarantee that Sleepy will
work as advertised, and I don't take responsibility for any problems
or damage it may cause.

Of course, I've taken steps to minimize the risk of data loss:
1. Sleepy initiates Windows' standard Shut Down procedure, so programs
should prompt you to save documents if necessary.
2. Sleepy gives you a 5-minute warning.

Even so, if you work on documents, etc. and can't afford to lose any
work in progress, I would recommend NOT using Sleepy.

Sleepy was designed for people (like me) who stay up late doing
silly stuff like playing games and web surfing. If your computer
shuts down in the middle of something like that, it's no big deal.

Sleepy only works if Windows is running. If you use DOS programs,
Sleepy will only work if Windows is still running while the DOS
program is running (i.e. if you have to restart to run your DOS game,
Sleepy won't work).
