                     =====================

There should be 2 Files in the zip-archive KPT10.ZIP:

  KEEPTIME.EXE (62.464 Bytes extracted),
  README.TXT (this file).

KeepTime is a Windows program to correct your PC clock automatically.
It runs with Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 (though it looks it bit clumsy
with Windows 3.1), it does NOT run in the Win/OS2 environment.

            ----------------------------------------

The program ...

1. synchronizes the Windows clock with the PC's hardware clock
(this eliminates the largest and completely unpredictable time error).

2. calculates from (at least 3) manual time settings the hardware clock's
warm and cold drift (ie. the clock error in seconds per day, when the PC
is on and off). There is a check if the gathered data lead to "reasonable"
drift rates and if other programs set the clock.

3. corrects automatically the calculated drifts.

With proper time settings the clock will have an error less than a
second per week.

            ----------------------------------------

To install ...

1. just copy KEEPTIME.EXE into your Windows directory (or anywhere on your
fixed disk, where it is found when called by Windows).

2. generate a program icon (use menu "File" --> "New" --> "Program" in the
program manager of Windows 3.1 or just click with the right mouse key on
the desktop of Windows 95) and enter in the command line "KEEPTIME.EXE"
(without quotes ! Add the path name, if necessary, for example
"C:\MYDIR\KEEPTIME.EXE").

3. Drag the new icon into the Autostart folder of Windows to make sure
KeepTime is running whenever your computer is running.
This is to have the clock corrected but as well to record properly the time
spans when the PC is switched on (so, if you've been running the PC a longer
time under DOS instead of Windows delete the last data set of KeepTime using
its menu "Settings").

When started the first time KeepTime generates a file KEEPTIME.D@ of 590 Bytes
in your Windows directory.
