AUTHOR: Jonathan Van Eenwyk
---------------------------
Descriptionizer was programmed by me, Jonathan Van Eenwyk. Of course,
I couldn't have done it without my family's support and advice. While
I do the programming, my brother (who is the game "level designer" of
the family) helps me with the visual design.

LICENSE
-------
Descriptionizer is absolutely and totally FREE. Of course, I can't
guarantee that this program will work on your particular system.
However, I do hope that you will find this program useful and effective.

REQUIREMENTS
------------
Microsoft Windows 98

All other requirements that apply to Windows 98, also apply to
Descriptionizer.

INTRODUCTION
------------
Descriptionizer is a simple program that allows you to create and view
descriptions that for files and folders on your computer. What makes
this especially useful is that you can create and view descriptions all
without ever opening a complicated program.

INSTALLATION
------------
To install Descriptionizer, just follow these steps:

1) Extract the program into a directory on your computer.

2) Run the application file from the directory.

When the application is run, it automatically installs.
NO files are copied to other directories.

GETTING STARTED
---------------
After running the program for the first time, you can now create and
view descriptions.

To do so right-click on a file or folder in "Windows Explorer" or
"My Computer." Upon doing so, a menu will appear with options for
such things as "Properties," "Copy," and so on. One option is called
"Description." Clicking on this option will allow you to create and
view descriptions you have set.

Click on "Description" now. A window will appear prompting for a
description for the selected file or folder. After entering a
description click "OK." At the prompt, if this file or folder is in
more than one place then you should click "Yes," so that the description
applies to all of them. Otherwise, just click "No." If you click
"Cancel," the description won't be created.

If you right-click the same file again, and again click "Description",
the description you set will now be displayed. If you want to, you'll
also have the option to modify the description.

ADVANCED FEATURES
-----------------
When you run Descriptionizer, a window appears that allows you to
access the more advanced features of this program. You will notice
that this is the same window that appeared when you installed this
program. With this window you can change the descriptions you have set,
modify the file names associated with a description, and delete the
descriptions you have previously set.

In the top right corner of this window is a button called "Show All."
This button allows you to see all the descriptions you have set. Off
to the left is a space where you can search the descriptions. When you
enter a word here, the "Show All" button changes to "Search." Using
this, you can search the descriptions you have set.

With the "Modify Description" button, you can change a description.
Select a file in the list and click the Modify Description"
button. With the window that appears, you can modify the description.

When you select a file in the list, if you wait a second and then
click the same file again, you can now change the file name. This is
especially useful if you were to move a file to a different directory.
Using this, you can update the file name to the new directory.

After selecting a file(s) from the list, you can press the "Delete" key
on your keyboard to remove the description for the selected file.
Before deleting the description, however, you will be prompted to
confirm this action.

If you would like to run a file from the list of descriptions, just
double click the file. If this file is in more than one location, you
will be asked if you would like to search for all occurrences of this
particular file. Clicking "Yes" will automatically begin the search.

To manually search for files on your computer, the same "Find Files"
window can be opened by clicking the information picture, and then
clicking "Find Files." If you like, you can also create descriptions
using this window.

TIP: You can open this file from within the program by clicking on the
picture in the top-right corner, and then clicking "Readme."

IMPORTING AND EXPORTING DESCRIPTIONS
------------------------------------
If you would like to export the descriptions you have set, you can do
so by clicking the information picture in the top-right corner of
Descriptionizer, and then clicking "Export." If you have previously
selected files from the list of descriptions, only those will be
exported, otherwise all the files in the list will be exported.

To import descriptions you have previously exported, again click the
picture at the top-right corner of Descriptionizer, but this time click
"Import." A window will appear prompting you to select the file with
the descriptions you would like to import.

COMPACTING
----------
Over time, as your create and modify descriptions, the description database
(where your descriptions are kept) will gradually increase in size. It is
advised that periodically this feature be used to compact the database into
the least amount of space, while at the same time speeding up description
access.

To do this, click on the information picture in the top-right corner of
Descriptionizer, and then click "Compact Database." Due to the usually small
size of the database, this will probably take only a few seconds to maybe a
minute.

UNINSTALLING
------------
If at any point, you want to uninstall Descriptionizer just follow
these steps:

1) Click the "Start" button, to open the "Start Menu."

2) Move up to "Settings" and click "Control Panel."

3) When the "Control Panel" opens, double click the "Add/Remove Programs"
   button.

4) A window will appear with a list showing the programs you have installed.
Scroll through the list until you come to "Descriptionizer." Select
   "Descriptionizer."

5) Next, click "Add/Remove."

6) A window will appear asking if you are sure you want to uninstall. Just
   click "Yes."

NOTE: If you would like to REINSTALL Descriptionizer, because you may have
moved the program to a different directory, all you need to do is
run the program again from it's new directory without uninstalling.
