Frisk Software International - Technical note #4

                      Scanning the report file

When F-PROT is instructed to scan a drive or directory that includes a report
file that is being scanned, you may get an error message, saying that this
file cannot be opened. Actually, this only happens on network drives, or if
the SHARE program is running.

The reason, well...When scanning files, they are opened in "Deny Write" mode,
meaning that F-PROT does not allow any process to write to the file at the
same time as they are being scanned. However, when it encounters the report
file, that file cannot be opened in that mode, as it is already open in that
same "Deny Write" mode, and currently being written to.

This could have been "fixed" in several ways, but our opinion is that as this
message only appears when scanning "all"files, it is not that significant..
after all, you should normally only scan executable files, and only select
"all" files when cleaning up after a virus attack.
