 --- 1. Introduction --------------------------------------------------------

This is the CDDB database plug-in for use of the popular CDDB database
introduced by the XMCD player for Unix.

It supports local databases as well as remote database query (direct or
using HTTP) using the existing CDDB servers on the Internet.
It supports local storage and submitting new entries to the CDDB
	repository.

The local database can be both the "Unix" type or the "Windows/EasyCD"
type which requires much less disc space on a FAT partition.

The local db should be available for download at:
	Unix: ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/applications/xmcd/xmcd-cddb.tar.gz
	Windows: ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/applications/xmcd/xmcd-cddb.zip

The CDDB plug-in requires at least Notify CD Player v1.20beta5 !

 --- 2. Legal stuff ---------------------------------------------------------

Notify CD Player CDDB plug-in is *FREEWARE*. That means, You don't have
to pay me anything and I'm not forced to give You support. Deal? :)

I do give support when I have time, but I can't guarantee You anything
and it might take a while before You get an answer.

No *REGISTRATION* is needed, but I always apreciate e-mail's telling me
	that You use the plug-in.

I take no responsibility by *ANY* damages caused by this program!

 --- 3. How to install/uninstall --------------------------------------------

Run the N_CDDB.INF install file by right-clicking the icon in the
	Explorer and choose "Install".

Setup the info needed in the options dialog that appears, this dialog
can later be found by pressing the DB Options button in the Options
	dialog of Notify CD Player

Use the control panel "Add/Remove Programs" applet to completely
uninstall Notify CD Player - CDDB plug-in.

 --- 4. DB Options ----------------------------------------------------------

	Options
	-------
	- Auto query local database. This options causes the plug-in to query the
	  local database.
	- Auto query remote database. This option causes the plug-in to query the
remote database server specified in the options below.
See also: Use HTTP for remote db and Use HTTP Proxy.
	- Store changes in local database. This option causes local changes to
be stored in a local database even if the info was received from a
remote server in the first place.
	- Store result in local database. This option causes results from remote
queries to be stored in the local database. Kind of a cache.
	- Use HTTP for remote db. This options makes the plug-in to use the HTTP
protocol to query the remote server. This means that firewall users not
able to use the direct server connection on port 888 can still use the
remote database servers. See also: Use HTTP Proxy
	- Use HTTP Proxy. This options tells the plug-in to use a HTTP proxy
server for the HTTP based queries. This option is only used if the
"Use HTTP for remote db" option is enabled.

	Local database
	--------------
	- Path. This is the path to Your local database or where it should store
	  local changes.
	- Type. This is the type of local database You have or want to have. The
"Windows CDDB format" is preffered since it requires less disc space on
	  FAT partitions.

	Remote database
	---------------
	- Server. This is the server to query for disc entries. There is a couple
of servers listed in the drop down combo.
	- Port. This is the port where the remote server is running. 888 is the
	  currently used.

	HTTP database
	---------------
	- HTTP Server. This is the name of the server to query for disc entries
using HTTP. There is a couple of servers listed in the drop down combo.
There are currently only two of the servers that have the HTTP query
protocol running, but soon most of the official servers in the remote
server drop-down list will run this protocol as well.
	- HTTP Path. This is the path on the HTTP server where the CGI script
used for the query resides. This is usually "/~cddb/cddb.cgi"
	  (without the quotes).

The following is only used if Use HTTP Proxy is enabled

	- Proxy Server. The name of proxy server You normally use to access the
	  WWW.
	- Proxy Port. The port where the proxy server resides.

	E-mail information
	------------
	- E-mail address. This is Your address. It is used when You mail
new or updated disc entries to the CDDB repository.
	- SMTP server. This is the server to be used when sending these mails.

 --- 5. Firewall issues -----------------------------------------------------

The direct server connection uses port 888 to communicate. If You are
behind a firewall or use a proxy to access the WWW, chances are big that
You will not be able to use the direct connection. But if You can access
the WWW You can use the HTTP based remote query. Just enter the needed
parameters in the HTTP database section and enable
"Use HTTP for remote db". If You usually use a proxy server to access
the WWW, enter the needed proxy server information as well.

 --- 6. Feedback, suggestions, bug-reports ----------------------------------

All feedback, suggestions and bug-reports to mlt@cyberdude.com

Please include "CDDB plug-in" as well as "BUG, SUGGESTION or FEEDBACK"
	in the subject line.

There is an option that can be set in the CDPLAYER.INI file under the
[CDDB] section that causes the plug-in to generate a logfile on
	C:\N_CDDB.LOG

	It is:

	[CDDB]
	LOGFILE=1

Set this and mail me the results if You have any problems!

Also don't forget to include the version You are using. This is found in
the about box. Also include any DB plug-ins You are running.
