The wolf was asked why his neck was tick.
"Because I do my job by myself", he replied

Some time ago I was presented a book called "MIDI Sequencing In C"
by Jim Conger, 1989. It contained a 170-page source for a MIDI
sequencer called MT. It was just what I needed and I was very glad.
But the book lacked its source disk and as there was absolutely no
way for me to obtain it (no credit cards, no cheques etc.) I tried
to find some scanner to enter the source from the book. After
several unsuccessful attempts I understood that I'd have to enter
the source by hand . . .

It took only two weeks to do the job! (As I have altered some
things the source differs a bit from the book). After several days
of fixing the most obvious bugs, the MT sequencer was ready to run.
Of course, I don't guarantee that there are no bugs left at all, but
if any, they might be in the Record part as I haven't got a real
MPU-401 to test Record and Play functions. I have made by myself a
simple MPU emulator board with a Motorola MC146805E2 processor which
works only in UART mode for now (but works fine!). As soon I get
enough information about MPU-401 commands I'll upgrade its firmware
to make a real MPU (and perhaps add metronome and FSK modem).

If you still find any errors when you test MT with your MPU, let me
know! As Jim Conger said, it needs some improvements in the note
velocity editing, pitch bend and controller editing, smooth tempo
changes, FSK and MIDI synchronization, quantization, filters etc.
But this is a SOURCE and you can feel free to experiment with it!

I didn't try to compile MT with Borland or Turbo C at all as I use
Microsoft C and don't care about Borland. Still, compiler specific
source lines are entered intact to allow using Borland C as well.
However, it will be necessary to modify the makefile for Borland C
if you intend to compile with it.

Now, to the copyrights. I don't think I violated the law entering
this source. I don't claim to have any rights for it and as far as
I know, the only subject who has such rights is the M&T Publishing
Inc., Redwood City, California. As I don't sell the source, M&T
shouldn't be concerned in any way. So I think I'm honest to them.

And some final notes. The original disk contains four songs and
different mouse driver. You may convert some MIDI files with mf2mt
if you have ones (but not larger than 30 - 35 kbytes or it will
crash!) to test how MT works. And, the help files are empty - you
may wish to fill it at your taste. Using MT is rather easy and
you'll cope even without any help.

So enjoy your new old sequencer!
