----------------------------------Introduction----------

NECRO- : The state of being deceased.
-FILE : A collection of data (as text or
a program) treated by a computer as a unit for
 purposes of input and output.

NecroFile is a program designed to clean any
hard disk, directory or file of deleted data. Little do
most users realize, when they delete a file and tell
the recycle bin to remove it, it is not being removed
at all... rather, it is simply being removed from the
user's view. The data is still on the hard disk,
vulnerable to many outside factors. Run NecroFile to
clean all of your drives and prevent the worst
possibilities from becoming realities.

---Current Features---
*~Clean any or all drives and stop hackers
	  from compromising sensitive deleted data!
*~Dispose of existing files or entire
	  directories!
*~Operates at different speeds to suit the user.
*~View any drive's identifier, size, and name.
	*~Slick graphical interface/*easy* to use.

----------------------------------Requirements----------

The following is suggested hardware and software to have

 - nfhelp.txt
 - settings.jay
 - errorlog.txt
 - msvbvm60.dll
-Note: The MSVBVM60.DLL file is included in the
installer only. If this file is missing, it can
be downloaded at various locations such as cnet
or zdnet. Be sure to place it into the
	 Windows\System directory.

----------------------------------Using the Program-----

It is suggested that NecroFile is run at least
once a week. Closing all programs is a good idea before

   (START > Run > "Scandisk")
2. Run NecroFile.
3. Decide whether to clean entire drive(s) or just
   directories and files.

---THE 'DRIVE CLEAN' OPTION---
1. Select the drives you want to clean from the
   left list.
2. Click 'Add to List' to add them to the right list.
3. Click the 'Clean Select Drive(s)' button.
4. A new window pops up: select a drive from the list.
5. Click the final 'Begin' button and let it complete.
If Drive Cleanup pops up, ignore and close it.

---THE 'FILE CLEAN' OPTION---
1. Select the file/dir to destroy from the left box.
2. Click the Add File or Add Directory to add it to the
   killing list at the right.

----------------------------------Version History-------

---Updates TO 0.84.6255 (08/18/01)---
*~NecroFile should now work with Windows NT,
	  Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
*~NecroFile should now work with NTFS (NT File
	  System) as well as FAT16/32.
	*~Yay. :)

---Updates TO 0.84.0427 (06/01/01)---
	*~SO many bug fixes:
-- Fixed that nasty percent problem. Ick
-- Even less lagg from program itself
( Now you can see my art more :)
-- Equations are a LOT more efficient
		-- Multiple minor fixes
-- Buffer file max changed to 200megs
	*~Improvements!
-- Memory efficiency: no more big blocks
		-- Exactness is highly upgraded
-- Error checking is much more extensive
-- Easier to read and understand
	*~Recoded the core algorithm!
It runs so much faster and stabler now,
though it will run even better with a C core.
*~Now can handle drives of up to 920 TERABYTES
*~SafeTnet is 32bit: will work with WinME.
	*~Lots of other esoteric changes.
	*~Remaining Major Bugs:
		- None yet: I fixed all the old ones,
new ones shouldn't be as problematic.

---Updates TO 0.82.0108 (04/03/01)---
*~No tangible updates made, but the file was
protected and reverse engineering is now
near impossible. File was made independent.
*~This help file has been revamped a bit.

---Updates TO 0.82.0108 (01/24/01)---
*~This is a minor release, no major additions.
*~A lot of small bug fixes made.
	*~Greater internal troubleshooting, so that
file problems are almost impossible to go
uncorrected (or so I think). Yay, go me.
*~Most windows return to the options screen on
completion, rather than ending the program.
*~I cleaned up the code a great deal (this
took absolutely FOREVER, so be thankful).
That means some increased process speed.
*~And other various things that no one will
ever notice or care about. :-)
	*~Beta! Remaining (known) Major Bugs:
		- Large drives (>2.1gig) have troubles.
Working on the fix for next version.
	  	   Remaining (known) Minor Bugs:
		- Percentage bar for drive clean.
		- Unknown WinME support for SafeTnet
		  bootup sequence.

---Updates TO 0.81.1128 (11/28/MM)---
	*~TONS of bug fixes!
	*~Destroy individual files! :)
*~Gateway screen on load: choose to kill files
or go directly to drive clean.
*~Uses 32 bit function and falls back onto the
16 bit function just in case the 32 bit fails.
This is good because it elimates math errors.
*~Safety software coded for DOS shell and WinME
load. This elimates any possibility of
	  problems happening somehow.(Important feature)
*~Settings file tracks important NecroFile data.
*~Percent bars and many cosmetic changes made.
	*~Release! Remaining (known) Major Bugs:
		- NO REMAINING MAJOR BUGS *KNOWN* -
	  	   Remaining (known) Minor Bugs:
		- Cosmetic Make-over needed.
		- Combine all sections into one.
		- Percentage bar for drive clean.

	*~Lots of bug fixes (Yay)
	*~New Splash Screen
*~New skin for the background! (Very cool!)
	*~Speed improved.
*~User option for the speed it cleans at
has been increased greatly. Check it out.
*~The finalizing buffer has been fixed.
*~A new 'About' window. Very nifty.
	*~Renamed from 'NecroPhile' to 'NecroFile'
	  for advertising / distribution purposes.
	*~Release! Remaining Major Bugs:
		- I'm working on them:
Drives over 2.1gig get no % beyond
		  2.1 gigs... I've covered it up. :)
This won't have any negative effects
on the function of the program.
	  	   Fixed Major Bugs:
		- Speed options fixed.
The fast option was a bit of a
problem, but that's done with now.
		- Drive progression is affirmative.

	*~Bugs fixed.
	*~Program stabilized:
The program would lock up the system
when used... this has been fixed (yay).
	*~Normal mode speed increased 65%.

	  	   Fixed Major Bugs:
		- Loop has been stabilized.

	*~This 'version' was never released.
*~But it works! Kind of, sometimes..
	*~Conception; Remaining Major Bugs:
		- Loop uses full processor, reckless
		- Speed option 'Fast' not working
		- Does not progress to next drive
		  once the previous completes.

----------------------------------Troubleshooting-------

---Forced Close---
Do *NOT* shut down the computer while running NecroFile!
If you do, run the SafeTnet.exe program as soon as the
computer starts up! This will clear any errors on the
disk that occur.

---Lost Disk Space---
If once NecroFile is complete you notice a loss of disk
space, then running the SafeTnet.exe program should
recover it. This problem is usually due all or in part
to exiting NecroFile before it finishes. Basically, the
buffer files (.--j) are deposited in the root directory
to keep the current place in memory for the program
function. If SafeTnet fails for some odd reason, just
manually run a system search for .--j and delete them
from there. Do *NOT* delete these files while NecroFile
is running and try not to save files or run programs
while NecroFile is in operation.

---Blue Screen Errors (esp. on Load)---
There are extremely rare exception errors that can pop
up if too many programs are open. Please try to close as
many (or all) unnecessary programs as possible and try
to refrain from using the computer while the program is
in use. Of course, this is only a strongly advised
request: errors will affect a very small percentage of
users.

---I can still recover files!!---
Don't worry, if you use NecroFile once a week as
suggested, you won't need to worry about file recovery.
While running it once will clean all files, it is
consistency that does the job (due to the magnetic
medium of hard drives today, it does take a few
cleans to become completely safe to forensics
equipment). Also, be sure to use the File Delete
on files you want secured, and THEN use Drive Clean.
This will ensure optimum protection.

---Dude, I can't see anything---
Make sure that you are using 256 colors or higher and
that your resolution isn't 999999 by 9999999. 800x600 is
suggested for reading the buttons, though if the mouse
is hovered over a button a dialog pops up describing the
function of that button. If the colors are distorted, it
is because you are using a color mode below 256 (ie: 16)
This can be changed via the Control Panel > Display.

---Okay, how do I uninstall?---
An uninstaller was not included because NecroFile does
not modify the registry on installation. If for some
reason you are not satisfied with NecroFile, then to
remove it simply delete the program folder and program
files (default is C:\Program Files\NecroFile\). Once
this is done, NecroFile will be uninstalled. We would
of course appreciate criticisms in this case so that
we can make our product the best it can be. Please do
contact us with your reason for uninstallation!

----------------------------------Note from Author------

NecroFile will now work on Windows NT/2000 and
NTFS drive types! Essentially, this means that anyone
can use NecroFile and should experience no problems now.
I am expecting NecroFile PLUS to be outstounding, so
keep updated on this release! It will blow NecroFile
away as far as features and use-ability are concerned.
This version of NecroFile is very much improved
and everyone using an older version should upgrade.
The benefits are definitely worth it and I am glad to
have taken the time to get this done.
I am intending to make a NecroFile Plus in the
future that will be a shareware program. If you are
interested in this, I hope you'll contact me and alert
me to any features you'd like to see! I intend to add
lots of new options and multiple cleaning methods.
As always, I code for my own enjoyment and so
NecroFile is FREE. Do not sell this to anyone, but feel
free to give it out. Personally, I hate when people put
ads all over my system and mess with my registry
incessantly. I did not spend thousands of hours and
late nights coding to become a hypocrite (Yet.)
Enjoy the program, it took great effort.

----------------------------------PLUS Features---------

- Directory structure deletion.
- Integration into Operating System (Right click to
  	destroy a file, etc.)
- More *Advanced* options concerning speed/other.
- Complete bit manipulation/disfunction trend-setter.
- Ability to cancel a Clean operation and restart it
	without having to begin anew.
- C Core baby!
- Will kill the annoying Windows pop-up automatically.
- Among other features...
