Lockup95
Version 1.1
April 10th, 1999
________________

Lockup95 is a Windows 95 system tray applet to start the
default screensaver when the system is left unsupervised.
Windows NT allows the user to lock their workstation,
yet Windows 95 users must wait for their screensaver to start.
Lockup95 is inspired by the OS/2 'lockup' feature, and
provides a marginal improvement of Windows security.
It assumes that the screensaver is password protected,
and stops an intruder from using CTRL+ALT+DEL to stop it.

To install, right-click on the 'Lockup95.inf' icon and
choose 'Install'. It will copy necessary files, then
add Lockup95 to the Startup group.

To start Lockup95, select the Lockup95 icon in the
Startup group, or restart Windows. An blue, open
padlock will be in the system tray. To invoke the
screensaver, click on the padlock. Right-click on the
padlock to reveal some more options.

Known problems -
 - If the installation fails, it is sufficient to copy
the lockup95.exe executable into the Startup folder.
 - If an intruder has physical access to the system, they
could reboot the machine and bypass any security measures.
The 'Lock on startup' feature might be useful
   in this scenario.
 - It is left up to the user to make sure their default
screensaver is Win32 (ie 32-bit), and is password-protected.
 - Screensavers under Windows NT have no passwords, hence
Lockup95 does not improve NT security.
 - Lockup95 might become unstable when the 'Display Properties'
   option is selected.

Lockup95 is freeware for everybody. For all comments,
