        Description:

FreeCrypt is an encryption program that will encrypt any
file on your computer regardless of it's type using a password
that you choose at the time of encryption. Encryption scrambles
the file with the password. Decryption descrambles the file with
the password it was encrypted with.

How secure is FreeCrypt? Well, I wouldn't use it to scramble top
secret files such as government or important corporate secrets,
but it will keep most people from being able to view or access
your files unless they have the password. A sophistcated hacker
or programmer with enough computer power and time could
most likely break into the file with enough effort.

Tip: You can increase the security a bit by encrypting a file more
than once using a different password each time. To decrypt you
must repeat the process in reverse starting with the last password
used during in encryption. Regardless of how many passwords
you use, you must make sure to use the correct passwords for
decryption or your file will be useless.

        Installation Instructions
        -------------------------

There are none, just copy the executable to the directory of your
choice and set a shortcut to it. That's it! That's right, no DLLs,
no setup programs, no other files are required. It run's all by
itself on any Windows 95/NT system. In fact, FreeCrypt 32 is
small enough to fit on a floppy so you can have a copy of it
        handy at all times.

        Usage:

        1) Click on the Choose File button and select the file to process
        from the dialog.

        2) Type a password into the password box.

        3) Click on the Encrypt/Decrypt button.

A progress bar will appear and disply percent complete until the
file has been processed. When complete, a dialog notifies you
that the file has been processed.

        That's it!

If you find this program useful or have comments, please feel
free to drop me an email at the address above.

I'd also be interested to hear from anyone that can successfully
crack files encrypted by FreeCrypt without knowing the password. I
can't offer a reward for this at this point, but would consider giving
        a free copy
of my shareware/commercial version of this software if and when it
becomes available. Future versions of this software will be
Shareware or Commercial and will be much more secure and
include other data security features as well.
